Anyone here NOT celebrate Christmas at all? (1 Viewer)

*Not really a bail bondsman
I'm giving some serious consideration to, sometime in the next 3 years, cutting out any celebration or participation in Christmas.

I'm not a Christian and the obscene consumerism makes me want to vomit. I have no problem getting together with family to eat, drink etc but unfortunately we can't just have that. It has to be the whole-hog.

Anyone here NOT participate in Christmas? Jewishguys.com feel free to chime in as well.

I feel the same way about the holiday and consumerism, but the benefits of spending time with family and seeing other people close to me excited about the whole thing make it worthwhile.

I give the kids in my family gifts and spend the rest of the day in a casino. Never really "celebrated" it, just don't want the kids feeling left out.

So I don't really know how to answer. My family's kids would discribe it as "Uncle AZ shows up, drops off gifts and leaves. Than we see him hours later with glassy eyes complaining about a Yo Eleven."

I can't stand it. I got into a little fight with wife 2.0 last night. She wanted to go get a tree last night after I got home from work. I sighed heavily and said reluctantly....'alright, but it's COLD out. Can we not wait until Saturday?"

That didn't sit well. What is it about Christmas that turns normally level headed, intelligent women into emotional children? Wife 1.0, I expected to get all gung ho for decorating a tree and the house and crap like that. But not 2.0. She hates shopping, hates crowds, hates lemmings, hates consumerism, hates team jesus...yet the day after Thanksgiving, she's decorating the house with little snow men and silvery looking streamers and crap I didn't even know we owned. Not sharing her excitement over getting a tree last night was akin to me abusing her cat or spitting out her cooking. She was legitimately angry with me for not jumping up and down and rushing out to get a freaking tree.

So I'm with you man. To hell with it. Yeah, I like gathering with family and celebrating. I like that even more on THANKSGIVING than I do for Christmas. The commercials suck. The music is old and bad. The expectation to get people a gift blows. The rituals bore me. And the whole concept of celebrating a virgin birth just makes my head want to explode.

The thing is I see my family ALL THE TIME. Aside from my brother who I see 3-4 times a year I see the rest of my family (mom, brother, sister, nephews, nieces etc) at least once a month.

:excited: :pickle: :lmao: Next year, GM, Rudi and AZ Ron are celebrating together. It'll be better viewing than that crappy TNT show they are pushing with Everybody Loves Raymond, Quantam Leap and their token black guy.

I say that you and I run away together. Split the distance difference and open up a little Bed and Breakfast in nor-cal somewhere.

And at least on Thanksgiving, we have football games on TV to bet one. What do we get in Christmas Day? Kobe vs. Shaq? Spare me. Ohhhhh, maybe we'll luck out this year and have the Tampax Bowl on the tube.

It's not easy and we get a good amount of ribbing for it. There's no reason why you can't buy presents for your kids/family at any other time of the year is there?

Just because Christians dont know the exact date of Jesus Christ's birth does not make celebrating our Lord and Savior's birth on the 25th of December any less meaningful or important. Also, false prophets are not Christians and the watchtower society is not an extension of God.

Also, there is no god and jesus was just another false prophet.

Do you have any particular scriptures that tell us to celebrate his birth? There are plenty that say to celebrate his death. But his birth? I'll answer for you. There are none.

Since there isn't any biblical command to celebrate it, can it be considered important or meaningful?

I don't put up any decorations. I do give presents but nothing major. I don't want presents from anyone else. If I need/want something I'll get it myself. I do go to my sister's for dinner but that's just an excuse to have a huge party.

I'm also IN before tim's post beginning with, "As an atheist....."

You see them, but do you spend 1-2 days straight with them? Also, if it makes other people close to you happy it has to have some value to you, right?

You have to meet the Lord half way and stop hitting on 17 and drawing to inside straights. Jesus loves the over on Big 12 and pro football, and hates those who bet on baseball and professional hoops. Jesus loves the road dog. Jesus warns you away from lines by adding 1/2 points. Do you listen to Jesus?

Well, it was. I know it wasn't Alaska cold, but then again, there's a reason why 99.8% of us don't live there.
I'm afraid my junk will freeze solid and then shatter into I million little giblets to be carried off by the ravens.

That's why God is kind of a jerk. For thousands of years, the Jews had plenty of access to God. He told the Jews what to do, they did it. He told them to follow his rules, worship and they'd be golden. They did. He even doled out a butt-load of pain and suffering the shake out the weak ones. Then, out of the blue, he decided to change all the rules and condem those to hell who didn't make immediate changes. He's like an out of control George Steinbrenner. You want to worship that, be my guest.
