Calvin got hurt
IN that game against the Steelers on an end around. He was coming off 8 catches for 133 yards against the Bears the previous week.
I'm pretty sure he was on the injury report after the Thanksgiving day game in 2009. He started that one and only had 2 grabs and an early TD, but he was clearly hurt. In the next game with a questionable tag he torched the Bengals (a top 5 pass D at that time) with 6 receptions, 123 yards, and a 54 yard TD.
That was a knee injury. This is a shoulder problem. I think the difference there is significant. This is simply a matter of pain tolerance. He still has his legs and leaping ability. All of this talk of Calvin being a decoy is laughable to me as well. Why would the Lions risk their best player with a bye next week if they aren't going to involve him in the game plan? That doesn't make any sense.
Never. Ever. Bench Calvin Johnson. Ever.
