AP Injury Update: Vikings RB Getting Close To 100% (1 Viewer)

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson made his return to the field last week against the New Orleans Saints in spite of reportedly being at 85%. This week, Peterson believes his ankle is much closer to 100%. Peterson put together 60 yards on ten rushes last week against the Saints. While Peterson was not 100%, he obviously is bouncing back to a certain degree.

This week the Vikings travel to Washington to face the Redskins. Washington has a middle of the road rushing defense, presenting a very solid matchup for Adrian Peterson. When AP is starting, as he is this weekend, he remains a must-start every week. The Vikings have nothing to play for, but Peterson has indicated he wants to play for his teammates and also meet some personal statistical goals. Given the Vikings struggles, there is not much else on the table.

ETA looks like this is from last week. It's still pretty sweet, and I'm guessing he's similarly motivated this week. Nice to know he's thinking of us...

According to Adrian Peterson, the left ankle sprain he suffered a couple weeks ago that held him out of theVikings game last Sunday, is only about 85 percent healed. His Vikes are also an abysmal 2-11 right now. So we wouldn't really blame him for wanting to take an extra week off this Sunday to fully heal. Yet, AP plans on playing this weekend against the Saints. His reason: One that will definitely make him a hot commodity in fantasy football drafts next August.

"It's very important," AP said yesterday, "especially for my fantasy team owners."

But then he revealed exactly what some fantasy football owners have offered to him on Twitter in exchange for him playing on Sunday...and it all makes sense. Even though we're pretty sure he'd never take them up on their offer.

"They've been giving me a hard time," he said. "They'll say, 'Will you please [play]? I'll send my wife down to visit you.' Sometimes, it's like, wow. Some of the things I read on there is crazy."

Um, ya think? You FF players are seriously offering to send your wives to AP in exchange for a few extra fantasy points? We sincerely hope the payout for your league is, like, 100 grand. Otherwise, we hope you send your wives—and they never come back. 'Cause that's just wrong.

Dude's gonna finish the year strong & carry teams to fantasy championships. The matchup is no cakewalk this week, but I still like him to be a top 5 RB easily

I hope you're right because Arian Foster destroyed me last night

sources strongly believe Bad torn acl (PFT)

When the left knee of Vikings running backAdrian Peterson caved inward during a third-quarter tackle against the Redskins, it looked bad.

Based on the initial examination, a league source tells us it is bad.

The only question at this point is how bad the injury will be.

Per the source, it is strongly believed that Peterson tore the ACL. An MRI on Sunday is expected to confirm that specific injury.

The separate question is whether and to what extent other knee ligaments are damaged — the MCL, PCL, and LCL.

It could end up being the worst knee injury suffered by any Vikings player since Daunte Culpepper tore the ACL, MCL, and PCL in 2005. He never had the same mobility. Until Peterson plays again, Vikings fans will fear the same fate for their franchise tailback.

ESPN

LANDOVER, Md. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was scheduled for an MRI late Saturday after taking a direct hit to his left knee in a 33-26 win over theWashington Redskins.

Sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter and ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen the Vikings' medical staff feared the worst -- a torn ACL -- going into an MRI.

Peterson

Coach Leslie Frazier said Peterson had a sprained knee and would be evaluated after the team returned to Minnesota.

"It's such a special person that you want to be right before you prognosticate on what might be," Frazier said.

Peterson said he knew "it was something bad" the moment he was hit and that he was in "severe pain" as he lay on the field. He was hurt when tackled by Redskins safety DeJon Gomes at the end of a 3-yard gain on the first offensive play of the second half.

"Anytime you take a blow to the knee like that, you're concerned about the ACL, MCL," Peterson said as he stood on crutches in the locker room. "I'm trying to stay as positive as I can."

A torn ACL, the worst case scenario, would likely sideline Peterson for some nine months and make it difficult for him to return for the start of next season.

On the play after Peterson was hurt, Minnesota's Christian Ponder suffered a head injury when sacked by Adam Carriker and London Fletcher. Ponder remained in the game for one more play -- a third-down incomplete pass -- before heading to the locker room.

Frazier said Ponder had "concussion-like symptoms." The coach said he's uncertain whether the quarterback will play in next week's season finale against the Chicago Bears.

"We'll have to weigh it when we get back," Frazier said, "and I'll follow the doctor's lead."

Peterson had 12 carries for 38 yards when he left. He also had a 1-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Ponder completed 8 of 13 passes for 68 yards. He was replaced by Joe Webb, who scored on a 9-yard run on the next series to give the Vikings the lead.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
