AP OROY: Vince Young (1 Viewer)

What NFL DCs do have now is almost a whole year of film. Makes it a bit easier to learn some tendancies he has, some things he likes to do. Makes it a bit easier for a defense to see what a player likes to do, and then try to stop that.
OK...so now they have 13 weeks of film on him. Is that really such a dramatic improvement over having 10 weeks of film...or 11 weeks of film? It's not like he landed here on a spaceship from Mars and entered the NFL draft, either. You don't need a season's worth of film to know what he likes to do, unless you've just been living under a rock.
And don't bring up Pete Carroll or any other College coach.
I just included them as part of a long line of coaches, NFL DCs included, as I noted, that haven't been able to stop Young. They're all respected coaches. Why shouldn't I include them? I'm not writing this just for your pleasure. Carroll was supposed to shut him down. So was Tressell. So was Stoops. So was Carr. So were some NFL DCs. They didn't. Young wasn't supposed to succeed in college, and he did. He wasn't supposed to succeed as an NFL rookie, and he did. The point stands.
There are countless players who are dominate in college but can't cut it in the NFL.
It's "dominant". It would appear he did "cut it" this year. So what's your point?
I think the Titans, and VY were very overlooked
Anyone who overlooked the Titans after week 9 or 10 should be ashamed of themselves and should forfeit that week's paycheck.
Oh and you mentioned looking at the film for week 7 I'm not sure how much there was that week since the Titans were on a bye, but I could be mistaken
LOL. Read it again. That's clearly not what I said. I said nothing about looking at specific weeks of film. Why would I?
Just take a deep breath and get your panties out of the wad they are in.
It would appear that yours are the only panties around here that are in a wad. Indeed, it seems yours are the only panties around here, period.

VY = bust pick next year. Too much hype, think defenses will be able to game for him better, and force him to be a passing QB. Titans going from nothing to lose, to expectations...
Don't want to sidetrack the discussion, but why do so many people think that it will be easier for Defensive Coordinators to contain him next year? If you are going to confuse and overwhelm a QB, isn't it always easier to do it when he is a rookie who hasn't had a full off season of preparation? I don't disagree that Young will have growing pains, as most young QBs do, but I don't see any reason to think that DCs are going to figure out a way to own him in the off-season, if they haven't been able to already.
The more games he has, the more game film there is and more of his flaws and tendencies may be spotted. At the same time, he will also be improving though.
Not only that but NE/BB put up a pretty good blueprint for "owning" Young in the final game of the season. It is a copy-cat league after all. I think Young will be a very good player in the NFL. How good (or great) he becomes is very much in the hands of how well his passing improves though. The stats don't lie. Young was not a good or even average passer his rookie year. That did not prvent him from being a very good football player in that rookie year. It could over the course of his career if not corrected. Really, Young did not do much of anything that should have come as a surprise to a lot of us this year. It was well documented that his reading and passing instincts were suspect coming in.
It was well documented? Where? Or are you just quoting Colin Cowherd or some other mediot who has never watched the guy play? VY was the best passing QB in college football last year. Period. Very few QB's are even average passers in their rookie year, even those that go on to have good/great careers. Roethlisberger and Marino are outliers. VY's passing numbers as a rookie look comparable to a number of great QB's as rookies.
Is this a serious response?

 at the notion that NFL DCs, with a week to prepare and 7, 8, 10 weeks of film on a ROOKIE qb can't devise a gameplan to stop him, but next year they'll suddenly have him all figured out. Oh, and Young won't improve any between now and then, right? LOL.
There's likely to be improvement on both sides. It's a fact of NFL life that players need to revisit their game every offseason and that defenders and DCs are doing just that too. For me, Young was excellent in the 4th quarter. I'm not sure about stats but he seemed to will his team to win. The other 3 quarters, good and bad/up and down like most rooks. He was like Jordan or Bird or Joe Montana or Elway....it's amazing how he performed in the 4th Q. In the NFL, way too often, teams play with their prevent D with a lead in the 4th. I hate prevent Ds. It seems easier to move the ball against a prevent D. I believe that's the essence of the theory behind it(one of), that the drives will take too long to matter. I'm sure NFL Ds in 07, will scrap the prevent D against him. Burn me once.....(But one example)Peyton has said BB was throwing new looks at him for years. Pretty good bet that the next time Vince plays the Pats he sees a different D to read too. There's still learning for Vince, because of that there is still going to be errors and probably successes too. Aside from the positive, his running will be a negative at times, happens to every running QB. His "fire" made him outrun everyone and go almost clothesline a defender in a recent game after he intercepted him.(Pats game?) Another time, he could sorely hurt that throwing arm doing that. Don't put him in the hall yet. There's much learning to be done, errors to be made, success to achieve etc.

My god...you do get that I AGREE WITH YOU right??? I like VY I think he is a good player. My only point has been that his play this year has created a need for DCs in the NFL to plan for him a bit better than they did this year. He has to step his game up a bit next year, because defenses are going to be much more focused on stoping HIM. I think a lot of defenses this year over-looked him because he of all the pre-season stuff, wonderlinc etc... That's not going to be the case next year, teams are going to key in on him, and he will have to pick it up. Do I think he will? Yes if he gets some little help on the offensive side of the ball.He is clearly the talent on the Titans, and he is going to be the one defenses are going after. But anyway, I'm done trying to explain how I agree with you on his talent level, I just have a concern on defenses being a bit more focused in on him next year. Enjoy your day, and take your medicine please...you seem very uptight.
