Archer (2 Viewers)

Strange, I thought this week was one of the worst Archer episodes I've seen. Just seemed like a hamhanded effort to write Kenny Loggins in, and not a lot of laugh out loud moments for me. I've totally loved most of the rest of this season, too.

It's funny how everyone who has ever seen the show loves it, but people seem to totally disagree about the individual episodes.

I agree

Yeah, I was laughing all through last week's and people were killing it in here.

The writing is off this season. Lana being pregnant is dumb. Them all milling about a mansion with no purpose other than trying to unload coke isn't working for me either. A badass Kenny Loggins with a Marsellus Wallace-ish briefcase was about the only thing I chuckled at this week.

Totally disagree. I thought they explained it just fine- they don't have jobs any more, and one of the few other things their skill set translates to is selling off a huge pike of coke, which they happen to have. Hell, that's just as believable as a private spy agency with a massive armory operating above the law. Maybe more believable.

Not sure why Lana being pregnant is dumb either. Pretty standard plot device, and I don't remember any silly story lines associated with it.

Dunno. Different strokes for different folks. To me, I liked the premise of the show that they were dysfunctional spys doing cool spy things; in space, underwater, in swamps, in deserts, which to me was cool. It was like an homage to The Man from U.N.C.L.E., or Get Smart if Robert Vaughn or Don Adams were womanizing alcoholics. I'm just not into the out of work spy storyline. It's like it seemed cool on paper to the writers, but for me it isn't working. Lana being pregnant is just boring to me. She is/was a central character who is reduced to standing around. The bad spys reduced to bad drug dealers just seems one note to me. I mean, how many "Pam's eating the coke again" jokes can they really expect to do? None of the storyline change would bother me if it were funny, but so far the lack of funny is my biggest complaint.

Yeah, different strokes for different folks. This season I loved the episode where they tried to do a deal in Miami with that Cuban guy and those two gay hitmen and the one where the FBI guy shows up at the mansion. The others I liked OK, with this week being the first one I didn't really like.

Agree about the Pam eating the coke jokes getting old. It was gold in the Miami episode. I think I laughed for a full 30 seconds at "So I should take life advice from an unwed mother .... with a dirty car?" But it's getting stale.

I'm with you. Kind of wish they would have just stuck to the original format of being secret agents.

On the part about how people love it, but can't agree on which episodes are good and bad: I think that happens because of the amount of jokes they have in each episode. It seems like they squeeze a ton of jokes in. Much like Arrested Development. Some work for some people, some don't.

I will say that even though I'm mildly disappointed in this season, it's still a great show. I think the bar is set high and even though it's not hitting all of the marks, it's still better than most shows.

I just really hope they go back to being secret agents next season.

Pretty sure they will. They've had enough success that they could take a risk going away from it for a season. I'm pretty certain something will come about that makes them a spy agency again.

My husband and I watched this show a lot. It was one of the few shows we actually both liked. This is season is going down hill though. We have seen the first 3 episodes of this season but now it is at the point where we just DVR it and if we get to it we get to it, before we would make time to watch the show when it first aired.

Agreed. Last week's Smokey/Bandit ep was the best one since Arch of Darkness triad. The Loggins one was one of the worst ever.

I love how "phrasing" is out but best I can recall Archer was the only one to ever use it. It's like a Jedi mind trick he used on himself.

I wonder if they had a dare that said I bet you can't have a character topless for a whole episode.

Also, Christian Slater.

I've been re-watching Frisky Dingo now that adult swim got its head out of its ### and put all of their shows online again. I think I've said it in this thread before but seriously, if you like Archer you really need to watch Frisky Dingo asap. Like immediately.

Yep. Same humor. It's what originally attracted me to Archer. Killface is one of the greatest characters ever.

JFC, I've been meaning to check this out and your post made me check it out. Hilarious. Thanks.

:goodposting:

Archer is basically the same character as Xander Crews

But with H Jon Benjamin voicing makes so much of a differnce.

Yeah I'm kind of in this boat too. Liked the concept, but it's kind of falling flat for me.
I thought it was a great concept in theory but it was pretty poorly executed. Showing a montage of all the funniest scenes from the season in the first episode was a bad idea. But starting with the Kenny loggins episode (which I understand wasn't so well received, but I liked it) I think the show has been hitting its stride again.

Agreed.

Also, is there a point to the Charlene story arc besides the fact that they wanted to sell an album? Very lame.

Sheesh. Surprised everyone bailed. I thought this season turned out pretty good despite the tangent. The baby holding up her finger as she drank from Lana's ### was the perfect way to show who's kid it was.

loved the last few episodes

This season was interesting. I enjoyed almost all the episodes, but totally agree that the ISIS theme is way better than Archer Vice. On a pure comedic value, I don't think any of the episodes this season would make my Archer top 5 list.

Even this so so season of Archer is still great TV. While I didn't love this season, it was still very funny.

Much like everyone else, I hope they go back with the ISIS angle and stick with it. And from the way the season ended, it sounds like that is the plan.

Just started watching S1. Great show.
 yes...yes it is.

I can't wait to see how they address the ISIS terror group stealing their name. No way they don't bring that up.
I really hope they are allowed to get back in the spy game because the government thinks that the middle easter group was responsible for all the bad things and Archer was stopping them.

Love Archer - I quote the show all the time but for some reason I use this one most.

"You're gonna need some Calcium after I...do something bad to your bones."
