Archer (2 Viewers)

"Aw man, lousy timing.  My bush looks like I'm sitting on Jerry Garcia's face."

How is everyone liking this season?  So far, it's ok.  Not nearly as funny as previous seasons.  Lana is nearly written out of the season, who I thought was pretty funny.  Obviously Woodhouse is missed.

I'm not caught up yet either. Which is pretty much all that has to be said about this season. Unless it gets better in the episodes I haven't gotten to yet.

I do like that they try different things every season. But this one hasn't grabbed me.

I'm on my second watch of seasons 1-6, currently halfway through 5 (Archer Vice).  I'm catching some long-term jokes I missed the first time through.

For me it's not close to Seasons 1-4, for me season 5 started the fall.

This season "Dreamland" is just terrible. I'm several episodes behind on the DVR and every time I watch one I think to myself "what the hell is this?"

Just horrible.

Not as good as some of the other seasons, but still Archer. I don't give it away, but the last episode was my favorite.

I have 4 left and just can't bring myself to watch them or delete them.

Yeah it's like, "I could watch Archer, or I could watch one of these other shows." The other show always wins. Very disappointing season of Archer.

Danger Island is not recapturing the magic for me so far.

My wife is binge watching the older seasons and it's amazing how much I laugh at the old ones and barely at the new ones. Even the iffy seasons like Archer Vice I am still finding hilarious, but these new episodes, just meh. I turned one off halfway thru because I had barely laughed at all.

I didn't like Dreamland but I stuck it out to the end. Gave Danger Island two episodes, I'm done. This turn of making all the characters into inferior versions of their originals is just baffling.

I've sort of made peace with the new characters thing. Although they're really the same characters in different roles. At least Pam isn't a man in this one.

The last 2 episodes have been pretty good. Maybe it is starting to come back, I think they tried to hard to bring the comedy back from earlier seasons with all the references from the old episode when ARCHER ran away.

This was at one point one of my favorite shows, but I did not even finish last season.

I do not like the new format.

I haven't really liked the past few seasons but I'll always give it a shot.
Yeah.  Same here.  They should have never went away from the spy vs. spy format.  I feel like when ISIS (the terrorist group) became a household name, they decided to get rid of that name.  At that point, they should have just gone with a different name.  But instead, they decided to go completely 180 degrees.  My biggest complaint is the characters were so much fun.  And now they shoehorn them into a character that doesn't allow them to showcase their true greatness.  Krieger as the bird.  Cyril as his stupid stuff.  Just go back to what made it great.

Make Archer Great Again.

I agree with everyone saying they don't like the new format as much, but I suspect if they'd stuck with the old format it would have gotten stale and less well-received too. I think it's just really really hard to make more than 6 or so great seasons of a TV comedy, especially if you don't serialize. The characters and story lines either get repetitive, their development slows down too much to be interesting, or they get too far away from the characters we know and love. Every show from The Simpsons to The Office has run into this problem. I can't think of more than a couple exceptions. Always Sunny?  Bob's Burgers? That's about all I got.

Also I think I read somewhere that the showrunner and writers got bored and did this to keep themselves engaged. If it's a choice between the last few seasons or nothing, give me the last few seasons.

I agree with it possibly being stale.  But to take it SOOO much in a different direction has hurt it, IMO.

Yeah I liked it better when they at least kept up the ongoing narrative.  The drug smuggling and LA detective agency were the same characters in the same running story at least. Then they did the noir season and barely bothered with that, I think they just said it was all happening in Archer's head while he was in a coma, which, meh.  And finally they just gave up on it entirely last season and apparently this one. IMO it would have been better if they'd at least kept that connection going.

Could be a bit of the ISIS name thing took a bit out of them. So they're doing different stuff to distance themselves from the name. Then in a season or two they'll come back with a new name and back to spy stuff.

I didn't care for Danger Island the first time around but recently rewatched it and laughed so hard I rewatched it a third time.  IMO I think Archer is better binge watched instead of waiting a week in between episodes.

Actually finding myself laughing quite a bit at the new space based season for the first two episodes. It might be because this time even if there are still some differences, like Krieger being an Android, the characters are much more like their old selves. Like Cyril shouting out "Suppressing fire!" when shooting at the attacking spaceships for example.

The cgi production values are pretty off the charts as well.

"Space Phrasing!"

Was just thinking this. That's why I'm waiting for the season to be almost done. Then I'll watch it all in one go. I did that for Danger island and really enjoyed it.

It might!!!!

Not sure when I bailed but it was definitely in that time when they flipped
You can see that i posted a similar opinion in this very thread. The first 2 episodes of this season are pretty good. I think the show is finally back.

This was at one point one of my favorite shows, but I did not even finish last season.

I do not like the new format.
