Are the senior RBs really this bad? (1 Viewer)

Well, I was looking at the Senior Bowl roster invitations and although the list isn't completed, I am kind of depressed. Why hasn't Tashard Choice been invited yet or has he just not accepted it yet?

Chris Johnson, East Carolina

Matt Forte, Tulane

Justin Forsett, California
Those are three of the RBs invited so far. I know McFadden and Mendenhall are favorites but they are juniors. Also, why hasn't Mike Hart been invited yet?Souce: http://www.prodraftguide.net/rosters08SeniorBowl.html

Maybe they figure he will decline.

We'll be in Mobile once again covering this on The Audible. We talked about Chris Johnson on last weeks edition of College Football Overtime.

 Thanks!

I can't imagine that Forsett will grade out well. He's a good college RB, but doesn't have enough shiftiness for his small size to play in the NFL. I also think he's not as fast as JJ Arrington, and he's not particularly strong.

The best Forsett moment in the year came against Oregon, where Oregon had tied up the game and injured our QB; Longshore came back in, but he couldn't plant on his foot at all (and he'd miss the next two weeks). Forsett came in with Cal having the ball on the Oregon 40, and he ran straight up the gut four or five times for the go-ahead TD that would be the difference in the game.

Other than that, we had great difficulty this year getting tough yards that Lynch would have gotten. Our line didn't perform as well, either, but Forsett just didn't seem to be dynamic enough. Good stats, but probably not a pro outside of maybe a third-down role.

Any chance Danny Woodhead sees an invite? I feel like he's more likely to get a Shrine Game invite if he gets anything. I would love to see him stack up against D1 competition.

woodhead has a shrine game invite currently

The A.D. sent me coach's tape of 4 of woodhead's games

I will be posting my thoughts on those games over at draftguys

From what I've watched he is very elusive but gets swallowed up by the defense very easy

Out of curiousity how many senior RBs traditionally get invited? Is there an average?

And as someone pointed out, some guys might not have responded yet....

2,400 total yards should be adequate to get invited to the Senior Bowl. I didn't know much about him until SI ran an article, but he seems to have potential. Someone I was talking to made a reference to Chris Brown, might fit, I just wish I had seen more of his play. I figure we'll see some during the combine and draft time.

The senior crop is atrocious.

It's possible that there won't be a senior RB drafted on the first day this year.

The good news is that the group of juniors is pretty talented and deep.

Really? No senior RB drafted on the first day? Not even Tashard Choice? Hell, at least he can say he started over Adrian Peterson.

Choice is a fairly mediocre pro prospect. This year's group stacks up something like this:McFaddenStewartJonesMendenhallSlatonRiceCharlesDavis SmithThe first six would definitely be drafted ahead of any of the seniors in this class. The final three would stand a pretty decent chance of being drafted ahead of all the seniors in this class. The 2008 class was sapped of its elite talents when Lynch and Peterson bolted for the NFL.
