Please post here. So much weight is given to yardage, receptions etc. Would like to find out who is in TD only leagues for strategy & discussion purposes.
Thank you.I was about to post, asking why anyone would join these leagues. They seem too random. Just seems that players are all over the place and difficult to evaluate. Things like Mike Vrabel having more value than Reggie Bush.I am in a TD only dynasty league that is in its 17th season. Mostly the same guys for the entire thing. Honestly it is the only league that counts for me. I've been in and am in other leagues but they don't hold my interest. I like to be able to know what my score is without having to go online or us an abacus. I don't like decimal points. In the end the TD only league feels pure to me and excites me more than any other. There is definitely a different strategy to TD only leagues and it can be hard to adjust but for me it is Fantasy Football as the Gods intended.
I have been in a td only league for 18 years. Yes they are old school and not as detailed as the Johnny come lately yardage leagues but they have a number of positives. 1. If you are at a sports bar or away from your computer you can always know your score.Thank you.I was about to post, asking why anyone would join these leagues. They seem too random. 2. It does have a more realistic score for the games and feels more like a real football simulation. Losing 110.4 to 123.9 just isn't right.
3. Just like the new commercial the guy who thinks that Jeff Garcia throws for 300 yards in a losing effort "how does that make you the big winner?, I'm surrounded by communists." Ultimately yardage is worthless in the NFL and should be worthless in a GM simulation game.
4. "Things like Mike Vrabel having more value than Reggie Bush." Well the argument was made in my league the week that Droughns scored twice and Gates had over a hundred yards how can Gates be worth less? The Chargers lost and the Giants won. What ever rules you are going to have unless they are very detailed are going to have players whose values are outliers, for example in yardage leagues that don't give return yards Devin Hester has less value than Mike Vrable. That is equally "wrong". I think that this argument is weird, if you join a baseball league that gives points for Home runs but not steals then you draft all the base stealers why do you complain that the home run hitters have more value?
5. The biggest advantage of a TD only league is they are simpler game than yardage leagues. If you want a fun game that doesn't chain you to your computer and you have a number of married guys who can devote 10 hours a week to FF then td only is a excellent choice.
I would post mine but it is rookie only. Qb td passes are generally worth 4 or 3 points to balance it out. You still have the run on running backs like every league as most leagues are start 2 rbs and therefore harder to come by. The only difference is you are trying to guess who the scorers are going to be.SteveInChicago said:What's the draft like in these things?I imagine QB's might dominate the first couple of rounds with some RB's mixed in there? Then probably Gates and some WR's that's highly utilized in the red zone? Would be kind of interesting to see a draft if someone's willing to post ones from their league this year.TIA.
You read my freaking mind. I was wondering this very thing a few days ago.SteveInChicago said:What's the draft like in these things?
I started out playing in these types of leagues, those were the dark ages, you had to do all the work yourself, you checked the Monday morning paper to tabulate your score. If you wanted to find a waiver wire player you had to research it yourself. The internet has made me a lazy fantasy player.Anyway I have never found that your draft strategy and player rankings are altered that much regardless of your scoring format. One year I compared the season final player scoring of both a TD only scoring system and a basic yardage scoring system, aside from a handful of players the differences weren't dramatic.SteveInChicago said:What's the draft like in these things?I imagine QB's might dominate the first couple of rounds with some RB's mixed in there? The comments on the importance of RBs makes sense to me the more I think about it. While they score less TD's than QBs the parity between QBs aside from the top 2-3 really isn't as great as the parity between RBs. (and the need to start 2).The discounting of passing TDs makes the parity between QBs even smaller.I just did some research to see how these leagues would work out this year, looks like the Brady owners are killing their leagues even more than they are in other more common formats. And the owners who managed to pick up the "studs" have a huge advantage over their counterparts. Maybe these formats also give the underdogs a bigger chance than usual at pulling off upsets?RB1: Addai (8 Tds)RB6-13: Tied with 4 TdsRB22-30: Tied with 2 TdsQB1: Tom Brady (32 TDs)QB2: Derek Anderson (19 TDs)QB7: Peyton Manning (15 TDs)QB12: Drew Brees (9 TDs)WR1: Randy Moss (11)WR2: Braylon Edwards (9)WR3: TJ Housh (9)WR4: Plaxico (8)WR12-WR17: (4)WR18-WR30: (3)WR31-WR44: (2)I started out playing in these types of leagues, those were the dark ages, you had to do all the work yourself, you checked the Monday morning paper to tabulate your score.
