Are you in favor of deploying a substantial number of American ground (1 Viewer)

Are you in favor of deploying a substantial number of American ground troops to Syria?

i'm the only yes vote. arghh.

substantial to me would be a few hundred special forces, some air support and maybe 5,000 regular infrantry.

but, unless the pentagon loosens their rules of engagement to allow for more aggressive targetting and actions, then I'd change my vote to zero
Good for you.

Although I voted no, voting yes is a perfectly legitimate POV. In fact it disturbs me quite a bit how lopsided the response is.

true. although I'd disagree on the numbers (plus 5,000 infantry automatically means a lot of support troops).

it is interesting to see the change in mass-opinion away from another war, but that's to be expected to some degree.

No.

Even if you did want to go in, we can't - we have ceded Syria to Russia, and the US and Russia can't occupy the same square on the chess board. Cannot do it. So all the other stuff that people want to talk about... can't even get there.

Yes if we have a coalition of troops and all country's involved send equal number of troops....I want the Russians to go in with us. Also I would like us to throw away the rules of combat that only we fight by and fight dirty ... F everyone of those Jihadist up. I'm talking major overkill. ..What about collateral damage. F collateral damage....war sucks and innocent people die, If we have to clean up other peoples mess because they are incapable that's on them. One more thing, what happens at war stays at war..These people do not understand being humane. You have to cut their **** off and shove it in their ###.
Wondering - If you were living in an apartment in Chicago, and somehow an ISIS cell had gotten embedded in one of the units in your building, and The FBI knew it but didnt know who it was or which apartment it was - would you be OK with them just blowing up the building to be sure they got 'em? Of course you and your family are collateral damage, but that's to be expected, yes?

I'm not saying whether I agree with you or not. I'm just saying it's not as black and white as you make it out to be.
Do I know the ISIS cell is there? Because if I do and my family and I are still living there then yes. See that is our problem, it is black and white for them, only we pay attention to the gray. If we go over there and we have a group of our soldiers in an apartment building mixed in with their innocent people do you think that would stop them from bombing that building.
Well, if you really would sacrifice your family, I at least respect your dedication to your ideals.

Myself, I think there is a grey area - you have to take it on a case by case basis.

He's going to penalize himself and his family because it's a hypothetical they know ISIS is there. His assumption is going to be that it would never happen because he's clueless that most folks in these situations don't have a lot of choices and are there because they don't have any options. He thinks if they knew ISIS was there they would simply just leave and move into a gated community in the burbs.

Get off of ####### oil and eliminate the importance of their nations. Stop funding these people, remove all direct and as much indirect financial support as possible. Let them have their dark age to themselves. Eventually the knuckleheads would be eliminated by the general population in these nations when the knuckleheads can no longer afford weapons. Engaging them militarily on their turf is about the worst thing we could be doing. The only reason to intervene in any of these places would be to eliminate nuclear weapon capacity. Our military interventions there seem to make things worse rather than better in terms of humanitarian goals in the long run.

If there was ever a time to wipe a country clean and start over, this is it. Help get all the remaining refugees out there. Flatten that b****! We don't need any ground troops.

He thinks if you are in association with a known terrorist group, you should probably expect bad things to happen one way or the other.

What if the answer is no? You don't know?
