Arizona is awesome! (1 Viewer)

I've been to Sedona and I absolutely loved it.  It is absolutely gorgeous and the vortex's have soo much energy.   It really is a magical place.  If you make it back to Sedona and have a vehicle--take the time and go to Jerome.  Very cool and obscure town.  It's an old copper mining town that basically feels like never kept up with the times.  Makes for a very unique experience.  Interesting wine tasting and dive bars.

I won't get into detail--but when I went to Jerome--my friends and I went into a dive bar.   The security guard/bouncer outside the bar was around 6 foot 4, 300 lbs, and his name was "Grizzle".   I was wearing a sterling silver skull necklace that I designed myself--and Grizzle at first seemed to be making fun of it and giving me a hard time.  At one point--he yells to me to come to the front of the bar where he was (and I legit thought the dude was going to beat me up)--but I had no choice but to oblige.  I go to the front--and Grizzle proceeds to walk me outside and down the street to where he showed me a beautiful vintage Harley Davidson tricycle.  It was a stunning piece of machinery--and the bike featured skulls and skull artwork all over.   He explained to me that he collected skulls and that his bike featured 480 total skulls in the design.  I figured that I'm a jeweler and I had a mold for my skull necklace--so I take it off and put it around his neck and tell him that he deserved to own it.  Dude legit almost cried and ended up buying my friends and I several rounds of drinks.  Our group pretty much made up 80% of the patrons in the bar so he hung out with us for a couple hours.  I legit thought I was going to get killed by a dude named Grizzle and instead ended up having one of those "life's cooler moments".  Sorry for boring you all with my dumb story.
This is a great story and Jerome is indeed awesome.  But, three-wheeled motorcycles are called "Trikes", not "Tricycles".  I'm sure Grizzle would agree.

Thanks,

Ok, Phoenix/Tucson folks, heading there the end of February for 4 days with a friend. 2 days in Tuscon and 2 days in Phoenix. Any specific recommendations?

Currently on our list:

Saguaro East and West
Tombstone (I know tourist trap but
Titan Missile Silo
Echo Canyon Trail up Camelback

Currently also planning a spring training game but may skip if we find something better to see/do.

We mostly like outdoor stuff.

Any restaurant recommendations and/or things to do/trails to hike?

I think in Tucson we’re staying near UoA. In Phoenix it’s actually Scottsdale at the Royal Palms

Arizona is indeed a beautiful place to visit. Been there a few times with the fam. Loved Sedona and the surrounding area. We were there a few weeks ago and had to witness the Vikings get their **** pushed in (drove over from Vegas for the game). Even the desolate stretches of highway are a treat on the eyes!

What days of the week? Would avoid camelback like the plague on a weekend.

Seven falls hike in tucson is cool. In late february it should be flowing.

We’ll be in Tucson Saturday through Monday heading to Phoenix Monday and leaving Wednesday

Musical Instrument Museum is cool place

Desert Botanical Garden

Taliesin West if you are a Frank Lloyd Wright fan

I couldn't get anybody to go with me to the FLW house. It's pretty pricey and in the summer, the last tour was 10am.

Scottsdale has some FLW inspired architecture in the corner of a strip mall. Kinda neat and free.
I'm with @General Malaise. If I can't get out of the Phoenix area i'm going to the FLW house for the win. But, if I can escape the metro area I'm going to Prescott. And then I'm going to enjoy a smallish mountain town. probably do a bunch of hiking and bourbon drinking. In one order or the other. You pick.

Not so sure I’d call the Wikieup area a treat on the eyes.

That said, I was also at that game. What a let down.

If you’re going to Tombstone, which I think you should even if it’s a bit cheesy, definitely go another 30-45 minutes and hit up Bisbee. Really cool mining town. Sort of a weird place but worth it.

Then you should also hit Karchner Caverns either on the way to Tombstone or on the way back to Tucson. Really cool cave system, assuming it’s open as they do close it for all of the bats in there sometimes.

Phoenix lots of good hiking. Could also go 4 wheeling out near 4 peaks they have some tours there. Otherwise may be spring training so catch a game.

I’d do Sedona over Prescott personally.

For longer hikes, head over to the superstition mountains and do the flatiron hike. If you're driving down to tucson do picacho peak; right off the highway. The drive up to the top of Mount Lemon is nice.

I was married at the Royal Palms! Had the honeymoon suite for a few days. Went to dinner there last April. Still a pretty nice place.
