As great of a game planner BB is ... (1 Viewer)

BB is IMO maybe the best game planner there has ever been in the NFL..

His in game coaching though leaves a lot to be desired. I think he would be a great game coach if not for the fact he ego is pretty much as large as it can get and he is stubborn and refuses to change it up.

New England last night was getting Killed on the mid range to long inside routes as the Philly line was holding NE pass rush off just long enough no matter if they blitzed or not. BB refused to alter his defense and kept going to take the outside and short stuff away no matter what and leave the inside exposed thinking he would get enough pressure which they never got. On offense NE when they tried to run it were running well ( the stats don't really say how effective it was becasue Maroney was stuffed a few times early but once he got going they had a tough time stopping him ) but he never stuck with it even when it was apparent Brady was a little off and Moss was having a bad night ( granted Brady got like 350 yards and a TD - but he wasn't sharp at all they just passed every down ) - BB just kept going to the same spread formation from the SG and just wouldn't change anything.

IMO IF the pats lose this year which IMO still won't happen as they are just too good and BB is too smart not to learn from this - it will be becasue a team like Philly last night figures out a hole in their Defense and BB instead altering his d won't change it up. Against a better like <cough> Indy <cough> The same thing would happen to them that happened last season when BB wouldn't change anything on D and Peyton destroyed his defense when he figured it out in the 2nd half.

Great time to start this thread.

They are 11-0!

I'm no Pats fan, but maybe after a loss or two would be a more appropriate time.

I don't think last night was him refusing to change, I don't think he wanted to change. He was giving them the middle of the field, but that was it. Nothing deep outside and he held Westbrook pretty much in check. You can't take away everything. He picked his poison. That was it.

Actually he is great at making adjustments to see what will work. He will not play the same gameplan for anyone else. Last year in Indy, it wasn't him refusing to change. It was his LBs were too old and slow to keep up with the TEs.

sorry, no. I detest the man, but you've got to give him his due. In both the Indy game and last night, the offense made adjustments which allowed them to move the ball in the 4th quarter more effectively than earlier in the game. Some of the credit goes to Brady for this, but much credit must also go to Bellichick. And I can think of loads of games in past years where adjustments allowed the team to win. Who knows? Perhaps even Feeley's end zone interception was a result of the defense adjusting to take away the shorter pass in middle of the field.

You can't make statements like this with any authority unless you're really able to analyze last night's football game from a coaching perspective; e.g. watching film over and over to determine patterns of play. I'm betting nobody reading this thread has done that...

Precisely. All 3 picks happened near the sidelines. BB didn't want to have Greg Lewis or Kevin Curtis busting down the seam for a TD and made the right strategic move imo.

I'll say this. His ego has crushed my fantasy team. Twice this season he has gone for on it 4th down while in FG range and I have won had he kicked those FGs. So I agree with the OP.

Yeah, yeah, I know.
