Depends upon which stakes you're playing(i.e. how good your opponents are). I definitely think that anyone can be a winner at lower limits simply by playing good sound poker. However without having more in your arsenal than sound predictable play, you're going to have huge varianaces(not that even better players don't) and many new players can't handle that.Serious question here...could a newbie just play tight and by the numbers and be a long term winner if he switched tables / sites often enough?Code:Most profitable hands: KK(+$7148), AKos(+$6541), TT(+$6427)Most costly hands: 44(-$4930), 97os(-$2390), 88(-$2167)
At the lower levels, you don't even have to switch tables and sites to do this. Your opponents simply aren't paying attention to what you do. You can fold 20 straight hands, then come in with a big raise and still get action.Serious question here...could a newbie just play tight and by the numbers and be a long term winner if he switched tables / sites often enough?Code:Most profitable hands: KK(+$7148), AKos(+$6541), TT(+$6427)Most costly hands: 44(-$4930), 97os(-$2390), 88(-$2167)

I don't know if I've ever outplayed a guy by more and still lost in a heads up match. Very frusterating. I completely owned this guy the entire time, winning nearly any pot I tried to.

I'm so pissed right now

If he had AK, I might have thrown my computer out the window.

Its really hard to believe how much worse I'm playing right now than a few days ago. Its probably not coming through in the HHs since I'm only posting big hands, but I'm just totally off my game right now. Gonna take another break.
Ok, time to play a $11 STT and just play ridiculous and talk trash to everyone.
LOL...first hand, a few limpers, I push with 3-6s, guy calls with A-10, I hit a 6 to win. Table is upset. I talk trash. This is making me happy.

Such bull####. Blinds got high. He won a few big hands when he was shortstacked and all in(he had less than 500 chips). This guy doesn't even belong at the same table as me.

I don't know enough about his poker play to say which is better, but I certainly prefer Assani's posting over jwvvwddedasrbcw.I think he plays better as Assani Fisher and posts better on here as Assani Fisher.
Not to sure about that jvwvwvwcdecbw character.
I figured it was something like this. Doesn't change the fact that weak/semi-weak pre-flop cards cost you the most money. I guess it's only logical.44: I lost over $4K on 2 hands when I flopped sets and my opponents outdrew me97os: Flop came 9-7-Q. Turn was a 7. Agree, but Assani is obviously representing at least an Ace here. Thing with online poker I have found is people don't pay attention much to other's bets/calls so much as they became enamored in their own hands. As for the opponent, the only thing I can think of is he was trying to knock Assani out and figured there was only one over card on the flop so he liked his chances. He was right, but there was also a straight/flush draw out there he probably didn't take into account.Isn't he ahead when he calls you here? Unless you have an A, 88, or 55 he's got you. Heads up I'm not sure how it's a bad call![]()

I would have liked to throw out a luring bet on the flop and the river. Advertise you have a hand but not a King. I would bet that potting the turn makes it look like a steal. Giving him free cards to the turn (if he checks behind) and the river is just bad poker IMO.
What did you like about your play here? That he took 2 stabs at the pot and you CR'd both times?

Fair enough points.I think I did get paid off decently though. I started the hand with the possibility of only about 1200 chips; I won about 800. How much more do I have to get paid off for you to consider it successful? On a draw, he really isn't going to call a huge bet on the turn since our stacks aren't big and his implied odds suck. I think maybe 300 would be the very most he'd call and then he'd fold the river. Well I got 400 out of him, and I sent a huge message that I was willing to check the river to him(don't underestimate this point in a heads up match). My check on the river here is a thing of beauty. Honestly, you have no idea how happy I am with my play here.

Nah, I'm fine man. Honestly, if you played live with me, you'd think that I was the least emotional person of all time. When I had a $10K bad beat 3 outer at Borgata, my friend was watching from the rail and couldn't fully see the cards...he said that throughout the event and including that hand, he had absolutely no clue whether I had just won the pot or not because I never reacted.I'm writing my first thoughts that come into my head after each hand. I'm not going to pretend like I havn't tilted, but it sounds much worse than it really is. FWIW, I only lost $300 yesterday, which isn't really a reason to tilt at all.tilt much?Day 11

I think that has a lot to do with fatigue- in each of the past few days, I've played in a basketball game that completely exhausted me(I'm in decent shape, but nowhere near "game shape"), and thats had a bad affect on my poker playing. Its tough though- on one hand, I want to give everything to poker, but I want to stay in shape too and I love basketball.
Anyway, right now I'm in a great mindset, and I'm ready to win some money. Lets play!

I hate it.I had a losing session last night, but made most of it up this morning while having my coffee before work

There is one pro there who I have absolutely tagged. I have perfectly read him like a book over the past three days, calling down his bluffs to make big pots when I was only holding mid-pairs, and folding when I have had decent hands but am 99% positive the guy held monsters. It's an awesome feeling when you are that confident and in control.

I'm in a good poker mood right now. Wouldn't mind playing some more heads up matches at Stars, but I've been sitting down there for a while and there are no opponents. Maybe I'll continue to wait and play some $10/20 NLHE too. As for the heads up matches, I'll try to be better about posting the HHs than yesterday- its hard with the fast pace, but I"ll make an effort to do so.

Hey Assani - Maybe this is a stupid question, but why do you choose Party over Stars, which has those same tables and limits? Just wondering if there is a good reason to play on one over the other. On 6 $10/20 NLHE tables at Party right now...will play for a maybe an hour more before taking a break.GL.If you're on Stars or Part after 3, let me know. No reason at all other than the fact that I started playing at Party first and Stars had a $600 max deposit, so since I already had a big roll at Party, there was no reason to change. I'd play at any site where I thought the big games were beatable.Hey Assani - Maybe this is a stupid question, but why do you choose Party over Stars, which has those same tables and limits? Sorry, just saw your question now and I'm about to end my session. Usually, if you're trying to find me, look for $10/20 NLHE games that are filled or close to it(9 or 10 people sitting), as I don't like playing shorttabled when I'm playing multiple tables at once. What # tables? On 6 $10/20 NLHE tables at Party right now...will play for a maybe an hour more before taking a break.GL.If you're on Stars or Part after 3, let me know. If you are saying you knew Villian would stab at the pot on the flop and call you CR, while also stabbing at the pot on the river while not improving on the turn or the river, I agree. You took down a nice pot with an interesting line. For me to pull off something like that it would take a heck of a read and some luck on the turn and river.Fair enough points.I think I did get paid off decently though.

Seat 1: gloierm (button) (small blind) folded on the River
Seat 2: jwvdcw (big blind) collected (1550)I personally dont like your line at all:
1. You didnt get paid off.
2. You gave him odds to draw to a flush and straight.
"Potting the turn" as you advise effectively puts me all in(I had 835 left; the pot was 750), and theres absolutely no way I'd get a call. I don't think you've considered my stack size very much. When I only have 835 left, and hes only getting one more card to draw to his hand, hes not going to call a huge bet here.
Also, don't underestimate the chances of him betting on the turn after I've checked. It could happen that he thinks I was on a steal.
As always, I appriciate the criticism, and will gladly take more of it.
Man, that pot was just plain Icy!***** Hand History for Game 3553839965 *****

Did you get my text messages?Haha...seems as if jwvdcw was either "love or hate."I kid you not- I actually have received PMs asking if I'm still going to be posting funny threads through jwvdcw because they miss them.I don't know enough about his poker play to say which is better, but I certainly prefer Assani's posting over jwvvwddedasrbcw.I think he plays better as Assani Fisher and posts better on here as Assani Fisher.
Not to sure about that jvwvwvwcdecbw character.
