Moondance by a lot. It's almost perfect.

Astral Weeks is good, but not that good. Overrated somewhat, in fact.

Moondance has a coolness that's hard to beat.

If I want something that makes me feel more nostalgic or emotional I'd probably go with Tupelo Honey.

These are very different albums. In fact it's almost hard to believe the same artist did them about a year apart. Very hard to compare. To me Moondance is easier to listen to piecemeal. I think you have to listen to Astral Weeks in it's entirety to get it. I can't really pick one over the other they are both outstanding.

Good post. Song by song, Moondance is one of the best "pop" records of the 20th century. Each song, on it's own, is outstanding. Astral Weeks is more of a concept album but it is one of the more unique albums in modern music. AW defies any label or genre.

Both are as good as it gets. Moondance a concise pop record, everything orderly and in just the right place, while Astral Weeks a free-flowing impressionistic aural tapestry with all the leaves left to blow around and what have you. I love Moondance like a living being, but it's not a fair fight putting it up against lightning in a bottle like Astral Weeks. Veedon Fleece is in that conversation, as well.

I had to look up who's albums they were. I know the song Moondance though and I like it. Don't think I've heard either album.

astral weeks is one of the top 50 albums in the history of popular music. moondance can't hold its jock strap. surprised at the results of this poll.

Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion man

I believe Astral Weeks provides a deep personal experience for many fans (and there are lots), whereas Moondance is an album of great abundance. It would be Astral Weeks in a walk, save for Into the Mystic, which represents a deep personal experience for me.

Final answer: Veedon Fleece, and St. Dominic's Preview is nipping at the heels of all of the above.

Whichever one has "in to the mystic". That may be the best song in the history of everything ever.

That would be Moondance.

And it's interesting to me that so many people love that song. I love it myself, but there are a few songs on that album I love even more, such as "And It Stoned Me", "Crazy Love", and "Caravan".

On Astral Weeks, I especially love the title song and "Sweet Thing".

My top 10 favorite Van Morrison songs:

3. Tupelo Honey

4. And It Stoned Me

5. Crazy Love

6. Astral Weeks

I'll wildly guess that you have never listened to this song.

Have you heard anything he's done since 1971?
Sure. I love in particular some of his religious stuff, like "When Will I Ever Learn (To Live In God)?"

But my favorites are my favorites, and yes they are mainly from 2 albums.

If he comes around in concert, go see him. I saw him 5 years ago and he sounded great. He hasn't lost a step and his band cooks. He still puts on one of the best live shows in music.

Gloria, Baby Please Don't Go, It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Into the Mystic, Astral Weeks, The Lion This Time, Tupelo Honey, Jackie Wilson Said, Streets of Arkow/You Don't Pull No Punches, but You Don't Push the River, Mystic Eyes.

Seriously, I can't pick just one. I have been a fan of Van Morrison so long, i can't remember a time when I wasn't a fan. He is literally the only artist, in which I love all of his songs. Never heard one I didn't like. "Cleaning Windows" and "Bright Side of the Road" are 2 of my favs of all time. I could go on but i will cease with the love fest.

Love Morrison. And I would love him if only for "Brown Eyed Girl". I know it's far from his best but I become a sappy mess when that song comes on - my wife and two daughters all have brown eyes.
