AT&T Fiber vs Xfinity. Tired of paying more. (1 Viewer)

We have had Xfinity for over 20 years. It's great. I'm just tired of the rising costs.

Currently paying far more than I would like to admit for 600Mbps and four channels through Xfinity.
I am able to get 500Mbps AT&T Fiber for $50 a month. $65 for 1 gig. Plus $400 in gift cards since we are wireless customers.

When I reached out to Xfinity, the best they would do was $75 for 400Mbps.

I have not read one bad thing about AT&T Fiber. This is a no-brainer right?

Yeah, it is a better deal and an absolute no-brainer for right now and I would pull the trigger if I were you. However, in the end, it feels like a rigged shell game since Comcast/Xfinity owns AT&T broadband and, at the end of the day, you know full well that AT&T will end up pulling the same kind of game. Oh, we're faster and cheaper, blah, blah, blah and here's your 2-year "locked in low rate" and in 2 years it's just as much if not more than what you're paying now. I'm not trying to be Debbie Downer but I really wish we had actual choices in internet providers instead of the situation we are currently in. I'm in the same boat as you are except AT&T fiber isn't even in our neighborhood yet. Metronet fiber is all around us but, again, not in our neighborhood yet.

I'm paying $80 month for 1 GB AT&T fiber (if I recall, $50 was the teaser rate, and then I had a year at $70, and has since settled). I could chase rates back and forth between providers, but I'm probably saving myself hours of time in the long run not having to deal with any of them over the phone.

I had a former co-worker recently install Xfinity Gig service for $65 a month locked for 5 years.
Yet the best they'll do for a customer of over 20 years is $75 for 400mbps? Stupid.

That's still half of what I am paying for 600mbps.
And I have played that game with Xfinity several times. But I am looking at saving 2/3rds what I'm paying for faster speed and unlimited data.
I would stay if Xfinity would even come close.

Competition is the key. We had no choice but crappy DSL or deteriorating cable at exorbitant rates for years. 100 MB at best with frequent drops an outages was the norm. Then a new company started up and began laying fiber like mad throughout our area. Now we have 10 GB rock solid service for $60 a month. Yes, 10 GB isn't actually usable...best I can do is use about 1 GB to my desk but still so happy to finally have a choice. But we'll see what happens once they have everyone hooked.

$95 -
We have Verizon Fios , Gigabit Connection, Disney+ Premium (No Ads)
Rent: Fios Router

Depending on the new customer deals - I may have to cancel and have the wife sign up. Been at least 5 years since we last signed up.

I just did this with those idiots. Tell me offer doesn't exist etc ... Somehow went down a worm hole and was able to he 78 for 1gig for 3 years

I just got Frontier for $40/mo 1 gig. (edit to add - Fiber)
I'm afraid we are at a point where we just have to change providers every year to maintain a good rate.
I do love the speed, service and price I currently have with Frontier. I am dubious whether I will get that rate in 12 months.

Just install 10GB equipment, it's out there :)

We're stuck with Xfinity or AT&T; we currently have Xfinity 2GB for 100/month. AT&T can't even give us 1GB, because there is no fiber by us yet. And we do get 2GB down consistently, which is nice. I wish I had better options, and have asked our village to allow more providers but they won't.

You guys must have big data needs. I don't know how I did it but when Xfinity tried to do their annual "Jack up your price" thing this month I gave them a call. And for my 150gb service I'm now paying $20/month. :excited:

Hmmm this looks promising but…..civility is just the local cable company, no? So for me that would be comcast (or whatever they’re called these days).

Comcast scares me. They have always sucked.

I tried this with Xfin. It was the poorest service I've had since I used a 14.4 modem in the 80s. Canceling was an egregious process, but worth it to be rid of them.

I never have an issue. I WFH every day and stream all the 4k entertainment I want. Just lucky I guess.

If it worked for me I would have kept it. THe price is certainly good.

Xfinity is Comcast. In the Chicago burbs, they have been very good and we have a local Xfinity store, so I go there when my discounts are up or I need equipment, etc. I never call for that.

Same, but I only use their modem (and turn off their crappy wifi) connected to my network.

My Xfinity service (internet) is great. Zero problems with it. I just have a hard time paying for older technology and slower speeds.
I am willing to pay the same price for the same speed that AT&T is offering. They just refuse to offer it.

This is my fear. Constant outages. I see their trucks at the telephone pole across the street a dozen times a year.

Gotta be a regional thing. The "cable" companies around here have always been poor/shoddy.

Who'dve imagined it would take more than a name change to fix Comcast?

I think I pay like $45 for 300Mbps with fios which is more than I need. That's an absolute steal compared to the crappy service I used to pay with the cable company. I keep waiting for them to raise the rates significantly but they never do.

We have been with Xfinity forever. We have a quad plan tv/land line/security/internet--very very pricey but our internet is 2100 mbps and with their pods, we have hardly ever had any problems. I think stand-alone cost for that package is $115.00 or so.

I have att air and its $55 and change when you do auto pay. Maybe that's a rate that will go up after awhile but 55 for internet seems pretty good to me.
