Attention owners of Betts and other 'Skins players (1 Viewer)

If you're playing Betts or other 'Skins offensive players, you should be aware that Casey Rabach broke his hand in Sunday's game, and John Jansen tore his calf muscle; Jansen's been playing with a sore calf for weeks now.

Rabach was able to return to the game but you should monitor him this week; 'Skins fans are wondering whether Jansen's season is over though.

Damn. I was already concerned about the 'Skins getting down early in this game, but with Ronnie Brown out and Thomas Jones and Cedric Benson splitting time, I still think Betts is the way to go at RB2.

The skins have been doing a good job proctecting Campbell. Only 6 sacks in 4 games on the rookie. Do you see that continuing now?

It's hard to say what the effect of Rabach's hand injury will be on him. My impression is that the talent on the Saints' d-line is weighted towards their DE's rather than their DT's, but I could be wrong about that. If I'm right, then it may not mean as much, especially given that centers tend to block in tandem with guards anyway.

Jansen's absence (if indeed he doesn't play) is more problematic, but Todd Wade is about as good of a backup tackle as you could have - he has plenty of starting experience - so it's not the disaster that it might be, but it's still a new guy being inserted into that unit. Also, unlike with the lefty Brunell, the strong side is not Campbell's blind side which helps too.

Thanks Redman, I got the Saints' DEs.

Saints are giving up 5.1 per carry right now. With Campbell in at QB, the Skins will have to be severely behind before abandoning Betts.

From what Ive seen Rabach should be ok, and Jansen will play as long as he can manage the pain. Not sure what that means for him this week though. Todd Wade would step in if Jansen cant go, right?

If they are getting blown out...can Betts still be in the game and catch passes out the backfield?
I would expect him to be in the lineup in any blowout. He's an excellent receiver so that helps insulate him from that problem. They also don't really have a good RB behind him to go to except Cartwright, and they love him returning kicks too much to jeopardize him in a blowout that way I'd think.

Well, that was a result I didn't dare guess. Jansen sat and Todd Wade looked great in his first start at RT - the team didn't miss a beat. At C, Casey Rabach played a full game with a broken left (non-snapping) hand that had four screws put in it last week and was part of a dominating interior running game vs. the Saints.

If you're riding Betts, continue to ride him because it's clear that since Gibbs had it out with the team last month about poor play and returning to "Redskins football", one of the things that they're doing is pounding the football and this offensive line is loving that. The coaching staff is clearly trying to use this final stretch of games to set the tone for next season.

For Betts' sake, I sure hope he really didn't care too much about the money and wanted to stay put. He's clearly put himself in a position where he could have garnered a starting gig and more cash (not that he didn't get some good coin from the Skins).

Great win Redman. The Saints will continue to have problems up the middle now with Hollis Thomas out of the game, but I will not take away from the Redskins. They had the right game plan against Brees and dominated in the trenches, and protected Campbell well. This should have been a blow out. I don't understand why the Redskins did not pound the ball more than they did. They were picking up 10 yards up the middle every time, yet they still tried to throw the bal and sometimes try to run to the outside without any success.

I must say as a Portis dynasty owner, I'm pretty worried about Portis next season. Should I trade now? What homer insight can you give Redman?

The defense won that game with its (by far) best performance of the year. Ordinarily you can't expect 16 points to keep you within one TD of the Saints by the end of the game. The Redskins on offense are trying to educate Campbell on the job, so I think they're making it a point to make him pass when the game plan calls for it rather than relying purely upon a running game. For two weeks now they've left more than 10 points on the field due to stalled drives in the red zone. They're a half-tick off or so, and I'm hopeful that that works out during the offseason with Campbell now as the undisputed starter. With my team out of the playoffs I'm rooting for the Saints and the Chargers this year - two teams that have suffered for a long time but that are playing well. I think the Saints are the NFC version of the Colts, with too many defensive problems to win it all this year but I'm very impressed with what Payton has done with the team in his first year and I actually have more confidence in him solving those defensive problems during the offseason than I do Dungy (ironically given that Dungy and not Payton is a defensive coach). What the Saints are doing on offense is not an illusion, IMHO. They're going to be very good for a long time with Brees under center.
