Auction Draft (1 Viewer)

Footballguy
I finally talked my league into going to an auction style draft.

Anyways I was interested in how your leagues do the draft. Or how you think the best way to do it with the rosters I have.

It is a deeper league than some but.....

We have

21 man rosters

10 starters

I was thinking of having everyone bid on 15 players and have a regular snake draft for the remaining 6. How do you do it and what do you think works the best. Thanks in advance for the help.

My league went to an auction dynasty format three years ago. We have 53 man rosters and start 6 IOP's + 11 IDP's + 1 K. I'd strongly recommend going with a some kind of carryover/dynasty sytem if you run large rosters, otherwise the draft/auction can take hours and hours.

We have a $1,000.00 salary cap, the opening bid must be $1 and every bid must be in whole $ increments. The first auction is epic in it's length but the carryover system makes subsequent auctions shorter.

Of our ten teams, the shortest off season roster is 26 players carried over, the longest is 44 players carried over. But we literally commit/reserve a whole day for a our auction and schedule it months in advance for that reason.

I'd be happy to give you more detail on our system if you'd like.

Try and get the guys to commit to doing it for more than one year. The first year can be a little odd in that owners may have drastically different views about player valuation relative to roster size. After a year or two, owners learn about the risks associated with both being too cheap and putting all your cap eggs into one or two baskets.

I'm in 2 Hybrid Auction/Draft leagues and I believe it's the best way. You can search for a few threads on the topic.

For me, I like it because you can shape your roster how you want it, having a chance at every player, as well as eliminate the mundane $1 bidding at the end.
