The younger crowd here may not remember this guy, but he set into motion an entire generation of non-sequitur single panel cartoonists. If you aren't familiar with his work, you most likely are familiar with his "cats cartoons." This seemingly innocent and familiar image is still found in most Hallmark gift shops mugs, towels, and potholders. But even this imagine is oddly subversive.
I drew and then started painting one of his cartoons on my bedroom wall in college, but never finished it. I can't find the imagine on the innerwebs at the moment. I may dig it out of my books and take a pic of it and post it.
