Babineaux going to start? (1 Viewer)

Is there going to be a 3 way rotation for the Titan safeties?

I'm wondering if it's time to cut Babineaux. He cant have a monster year if he's only on the field for 2 downs...

Any news at all?

I noticed that the Questionable tag was taken off today (in ESPN leagues), but I havent read anything about him or how much he'll play.

I wish I had a roster spot to sit him, but as it is, I have to either play him or drop him.

So Babineaux had a great stat line last week but was benched in the second half for missing some tackles. I really can't figure out what to do with this guy. I could trade him straight up for William Moore or a LB2 but I may be sorry I did it. FBG has him ranked #1 among safeties for the week. How is everyone playing this one?

I'm in the same boat - thx for that info on the benching.

I was wondering why he only played 70%snaps

What I'm trying to figure out is if he simply got benched because he got burned by the dynamic players on the Bills roster such as Spiller and Johnson. I know he missed a tackle on Spiller but a lot of guys have trouble tackling that guy. The safety that came in off the bench could simply have a better skill set for the more athletic players in space and Babs is all good going forward. Or this could be a sign of things to come. I'd love to hear some comments from our IDP experts on this.

Some info I found from Jim Wyatt, a beat writer who covers the Titans, who twitted the following during the game.

S Al Afalava playing extensively in place of Jordan Babineaux. #Titans have no injury to report for Babineaux, who is also playing some

Jordan Babineaux with two big plays on final stop for #Titans

#Titans safety Jordan Babineaux is 1 player who responded well to adversity on Sunday. He made 2 big plays late after being benched earlier

Al Afalava is a 2009 6th round pick. 13 games for Chicago in 2009, 5 games for Indy in 2010. Unsigned in 2011. 5 games for Tennessee this year.

He played 18 defensive snaps in W7, 3 snaps in W6, 4 snaps in W5, and 0 in W4. He played 14,18,19,and 17 ST plays from W4 to W7.

The Titans had Robert Johnson and Michael Griffin as the 2 starting safeties at the beginning of the year. Johnson didn't work out, so they put Babineaux back in. Afalava is a special teamer, and I'm guessing he didn't impress enough since they had Babineaux in the game in the final drive. I'm skeptical that Afalava will replace Babineaux.

this is just my impression from blurbs, snap counts, and highlights, but it doesn't seem like anybody on that team can tackle, and for whatever reason they keep rotating safeties through both positions -- maybe trying to find someone who can tackle.

earlier in the year they played johnson over babs at ss, with griffin at fs.

then they moved griffin to ss for a game (or two?).

then they finally put griffin back where he was and gave the ss job back to babs, putting johnson on the bench.

now johnson's back on the field and they put babs on the bench for 30% of the game.

supposedly, some guy on twitter was ripping griffin because he couldn't tackle, so griff posts that box score where he had 16 tackles, or whatever.

shortly after that, I was watching some clips of belichick breaking down plays from the pats/titans game, and there were a couple plays where some guy made just horrendous tackle attempts, allowing ridley to run right by him -- turns out it was griffin, and that's the guy they rotated in at ss over these other guys.

from teh info in this thread, I'd have to guess babs will be back at his position, but I can't say i feel very comfortable about it.

here's a couple things I just saw......

babs is listed on the injury report, probable I think, with a (wrist).

did this maybe happen last weekend, costing him some snaps?

and this...

The Tennessee Titans have signed S Tracy Wilson from their practice squad.

and here's a fan review....

The Tennessee Titans defense has been beat to tar by opposing offense throughout the season in many different fashions. Some would like to put the players at fault, which they definitely hold their fair share of fault in the numbers, but they’re not who I’m blaming.

I’m looking right at DC Jerry Gray. His whole scheme has been about putting players in the position that suits them best and where they can be the most productive and make plays. The problem with that philosophy is that he’s not coming through with it.

FS Michael Griffin is playing SS and is getting beat every other play. QB’s are throwing at him without fear and his tackling variates between great and the worst in the league. He’s leading the league in missed tackles and is just disappointing to watch most of the time. While he’s been off the past few years, he’s never been this bad. The Titans just re-signed him to a 5-year contract worth over $7 million a year. They should probably “put him where he’ll make the most plays.”

Gray has been playing the safeties unusually deep throughout the season. While that’s not the entire issue for them, it may be a contributing factor.

Great stuff Ashem and Larry. The wrist injury is slightly concerning but based on what I'm reading that you guys have found I am feeling better about putting Babs in my lineup this week. I'll watch the news on the wrist though.

Week 7, Babineaux played 43 of 61 defensive snaps + 12 special teams snaps.

Week 8, Babineaux played 74 of 76 defensive snaps + 12 special teams snaps.

Afalava had 4 defensive snaps and 4 ST snaps.

Tracy Wilson played 0 defensive snaps and 9 ST snaps and was waived on Tuesday.

I haven't seen any games, so I don't know if he playing well, but the stats say he's producing and the snap count says the other options aren't very good.

I based my decision to start him last week on the various tidbits I saw in this thread which led me to believe he was the Titans best option. Great information. He has another fairly decent matchup this week so I'm looking forward to playing Babs again.

well, it looks like he split snaps with alfalfa, but the latter is out for a couple weeks.

anybody have a guess if johnson will come off teh bench to steal half his snaps this week?

Amazing how Afalava got more snaps and absolutely no tackles, assists, or passes defended. I do not understand what they are doing there.

Me neither, but with Johnson getting 1 snap last week and given how delightfully horrible Johnson was earlier this year I'm hopeful that the Babs train will roll on...although it would help if he'd shut up.Calling out the coaching staff doesn't help our IDP teams Jordan....priorities, man. :boxing:

Jene could you shed some light on this?Im guessing that Babs goes back to full time while Alfalfa out?(i hope so anyways)

Going back to Babineaux's last start when he put up a stinker of an IDP performance he played 96% of the snaps on defense and played 48% of the ST snaps. However on defense there were only 56 snaps for the whole game so his opportunities weren't enormous. So from that I really can't gain any insight as to what's up with him.

If you listen to the IDP roundtable they've pretty much thrown up their hands and have no idea what to make of Babs right now. He seems to be somewhat of an emotional player so I can see him wanting to have a big bounce back performance. I won't risk starting him this week though as I have a better alternative that's emerged.
