Yeah, I gotta admit, the first two Coldplay albums were pretty good. Since then...

X and Y kicks *** agree with you on the rest.

Rarely do musicians make as good of music after selling out. It's all pretty watered-down after that. I'd mention Tool as an ironic example, but don't want to bring out the trolls.

But like you said, younger me would not have really liked it...which is why I was so shocked there weren't dudes like me at her concert.

I don't know her entire catalogue, and I can't listen to her for too long, but songs like "the greatest" and "Video Games" are achingly great.

Blue Bannisters came out right after NFR. I probably rank it right behind NFR as far as listening thru the album.

Haven't listened to either of those yet. Have her first on vinyl and her second (EP) ordered. Both are great. Ultraviolence which I really really also like and which my kid says is her best is arriving today, also on vinyl. That one was produced by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys apparently.

The majority of her releases are either good or great, but Ultraviolence is my favorite. She melded very well with Auerbach. She owns the tones and lyrics exceptionally well.

I don’t think I buy into any kind of music being something one “shouldn’t like”.

These last few random music threads have been brutal - why are we concentrating on the negatives and bands we "shouldn't like" or ones we "should like but don't". Music should be about sharing things we do like and celebrating the talent instead of ****ting on bands others may love.

I don't have an issue with saying you don't like a band or artist or type of music. I just don't like when people say it sucks or that people shouldn't like it.

I hate labels with music more and more as I get older, but while I think their music does have flashes of progressive rock, they are much more Queen than Yes. Queen also had flourishes of prog rock, especially on their early albums, but like Muse, never stuck their toe in the deep end for too long.

Well I don't mind labeling sub genres of rock music. There are various styles of rock.

I also maybe have a different view of what the my definition of "Progressive" rock is. It does not mean long self indulgent songs to me.

It's about seeking new sonic landscapes each and every album and building upon each record.....much like Rush did 1975 thru 1992.

Muse definitely has a lot of Queen flourishes as well as Rush riffage on their earlier records.

I actually did not like Muses last two albums....not my cup of tea. But thru Drones I looooooove their stuff.

I am with ya regarding progressive rock. Some think it has to be all long songs, crazy time sigs and flashy playing, but the Moody Blues were one of the originators of what became the genre, and they didn't really focus on any of those things.

I am with ya on Muse as well. I love Muse up until Drones as well (and I think Drones is highly underrated, even if the lyrics are a bit daft at times). The last two albums had their moments, but it feels like the band's creative peak is in the rearview mirror. What a peak it was, though! The Rome DVD from the 2nd Law tour is still one of the five best concert DVDs/Blu-rays ever.

They never really hit it big but did have a few songs that charted. My favs didn't even chart ...Johnny Hold Back and No Second Chance
