Beanie Wells knee not 100% per Whiz per Somers (1 Viewer)

I wrote this earlier in the RB thread over the weekend

Chris Wells: Check the IR because he might have suffered something in the past week. Early prognosis was nothing serious but THT is always under the radar and this week he might end up scoring more points as a nice check down for Anderson.

Tim Hightower: As a flex option, especially in dynasty where you have a pretty set roster year to year, no reason to think Hightower won't see plenty of receptions with Boldin now gone and no clear 2nd, 3rd, and 4th WR slots set anymore. @St L last year he had 14/110+2/15rec. 35 yds and a TD later in the season when Wells was getting a little more action. In 2008 @St L he had 22/109/TD, and then again had 30+ yds and a TD at home later in the season. If you believe in trends he should have a decent game on the road in St Louis, it has been a place where he has had success. Hightower could be the sleeper of the week.

All sarcasm aside, this is why some people come here for insight, and look for your postings in particular.

Curious re the MRI if there is one, wouldn't surprise me if there isn't and he's just taking some time off because he's sore. Beanie had a toughness issue in college and I'm seeing a striking resemblance so far in the pros too. Always nicked up and doesn't play through it.

He hasn't missed a game in the NFL that I'm aware of. I've been extremely high on Wells as a breakout candidate this offseason, but the training camp/preseason carry distribution coupled with the injury issues has me tempering my expectations. I still think the Cardinals will be a much better team if they give the ball to Beanie and faze Hightower out to more of a 3rd down role. It just doesn't look like it's going to happen. At least not early in the season. He'll likely be a nice buy low option if he indeed does start the season slow.

I took Beanie as my wr2. Am I hosed ?
If you took him as your second Wr you are totally screwed.
OOPs, obviously meant rb2. Am I still hosed ? I didn't want him at all, then he was available at 5:11 and I needed an rb2.
No, you didn't get hosed, you got great value. If you believe in Wells that's all you need to feel good about it, I believe. If I was a non-believer i would take him at 5.11, good value IMO.

Same argument was made about him in college, that he didn't miss many games. He consistently pulls himself from games and practice whenever he feels the slightest bit of discomfort yet there's never anything medically wrong with him. There's always something with him, if that doesn't change he'll rarely see more than 15 touches/game.If he starts off slow and ends up on waivers like last season in some of my redrafts I'll pick him up again, but I do not expect anything beyond the current week he's on my roster.

After Wells received the hit that caused the injury in the preseason game he tried to continue the next play but you could see him pulling up and not being able to put any weight on it (yet later he was walking around). It didn't look REAL serious but I was surprised I didn't hear more about it after the game. I'm not planning on having him week one.

That may have been the case with him in college, but he looked like an absolute beast at the end of 2009. I know he went into training camp last year a bit dinged up, but he didn't seem hampered on the field when he started taking the majority of touches the last half of the year.I thought for sure with the retirement of Warner the Cardinals would shift to a run dominated offense featuring Wells. It just made sense. He was a first round pick that looked dominant at the end of 2009 and should have been in line for a major bump in touches. Then throw in the schedule, his running style, the addition of Alan Faneca, Wells' comments about doubling his production from last year, and I thought for sure that this guy was in for big things in 2010 (he may still be). Yet Hightower is still listed as the starter, Wells wasn't getting early touches in preseason games, and now he seems to be nicked up a bit.

I had Beanie Wells last year but when early adp's came out i thought there would be no shot he would be on any of my teams. Ive seen him plummet in recent drafts to the 6th/7th rounds, he's great value there imo and i may draft him tonight in my 5th big money league

That's what Beanie does, he manages himself to ensure he doesn't get hurt by not practicing/playing full-go at all times. I, too, watched him last year, when healthy the guy is a beast, same as college. Problem is, how many touches will he get? He didn't get many last year, relative to other starters, so he looked better with them due to the lesser pounding he's taken. It would not surprise me at all if his owners in my shallower leagues do like last year and drop him over the bye weeks, if they do that I'll pick him up. Solid player when he's out there, just can't trust him for more than a week at a time...and even that's a bit risky.

All this does is delay Wells' emergence a little bit. Hightower is mediocre at best. If they loved Hightower so much, they wouldn't have drafted Beanie last year. They know that in order to be successful in the post-Warner Era, they need Beanie to become a stud.
