Well guys. This is the moment we've been waiting on for over 20 years. We've finally made it back to the Super Bowl. Words can't express how excited I am about this game. :lmao:

A few thoughts about this team and the experiences I've enjoyed this season:

Win or lose, this has been the most enjoyable season of football or sports I've experienced in my entire life. Since I was only 8 years old in 86, I really couldn't appreciate the game like I do now. I'm not from the Chicago area but I've been a fan since I was kid. The only other Bears fans I know are the guys from here, so this is usually the place where I come to celebrate with other Bears fans. I thank you all for that. :goodposting:

Call me delusional but I really feel like I'm a part of this team. As I'm sure most of you have, I've been exceedingly joyful and utterly dissappointed at various points during this season. At the beginning of the season, I was in disbelief at what was happening. I never thought we come out of the gate blowing everyone out. It was unreal. I was also in disbelief when Rex completely fell apart in the middle of the season. He played some of the worst games I can ever remember a qb ever playing during that stretch. I was sick. The thing that was great about that is we still managed to win most of those games. I knew that was a good sign because I believed Rex would turn it around. I'd never act like I knew more about football than anyone else, but I was a Rex supporter from the very beginning and never thought he should be benched. The way Lovie stayed behind him made me respect Lovie more than already did. What a coach and what a guy.

Here's another reason I have great respect for this guy. This may not matter that much to some but an interview I heard with Urlacher at the beginning of the week really stayed in my mind. When asked about Lovie, Urlacher stated he had never once heard Lovie say a curse word. Personally, I don't curse very much. However, when I'm watching Bears games, the expletives will often fly out quite a bit. To think that someone could be the actual coach of the team and not do it is amazing to me. I act like a complete fool in my living room during almost every game. My hat's off to the guy. He's a class act.

Another note on Lovie. I went to see a Bears game a few years ago in St. Louis with a friend of mine who is a Rams fan. Lovie was the defensive coordinator with the Rams at that time. My buddy would frequently stand outside of the stadium in St. Louis when he went to the game. I still remember standing outside when Lovie walked by us. My buddy say there's the man that brought the cover 2 to St. Louis. Lovie stopped and looked straight at us and said, "Now there's a man that knows football'. Then, he walked over and shook our hands. I couldn't help but think "wow, that was pretty cool". Of course, I never thought about him being the Bears head coach one day. I never forgot that moment though.

One last experience I'll share with you is the NFC championship game. I'd dreamed about going to Soldier field since I was a kid. I had always envisioned it being cold and snowing at the game I went to. That's just the way I wanted it to be. Well, this season was the first opportunity I'd had to go to a game and it happened to be the NFC championship game. And let me say, it was one of the most exciting moments of my entire life. Getting to be at Soldier Field and watch the game with so many other rabid Bears fans was an amazing experience. Add snow and a blowout to the game during the 2nd half and I couldn't have written it any better if I tried. I'll never forget it. :lmao:

To conclude, lets savor every last moment Bears fans. We have no idea how long it'll be until this happens again. Thank you for this memorable season Chicago Bears. It's been a great ride.

 I'm a split Bears/Chargers fan due to my multi-city upbringing. I've been in a funk since the Chargers lost to the Pats but I woke up every day this week with a smile on my face. I'm proud as hell of this Bears team to have over come so many injuries and Rex's play various weeks to make it to the Super Bowl. I hope they have one more silver bullet left in the chamber today.

I was 19 years old when the Bears crushed the Pats in SB 20, I just turned 40 and I'm hoping the Bears give me a little birthday present in the form of a super bowl win!!!!

Chicago Bears, bear down!!! :D

One time, indeed.

Awesome post. I was 9 yrs old for Super Bowl XX, didnt fully appreciate it. Been waiting, dying for this for 20 long, hard years too

Its a big family Flapgreen. We deserve this day.

Enjoy it brother

I turn 30 in a few days and am considerng the Bears return to the SB my birthday present. I fully agree that Bears fans (and Colts fans too) need to enjoy every second of this game and what led up to it. You never know when it will happen again.

It has been a strange season for CHI. Some ups and downs, but mostly ups; but with the modern media, the downs were highly scrutinized (but thats to be expected for any team). Win or lose, CHI was easily the best team in the NFC this year (proven in both the reg and post season), so Bears fans have a lot to be proud of. Hopefully CHI can come away with one last big win though!

Similar story here. I was 7 years old for XX and barely can recall it live. I have enjoyed the this season like no other.

I was in 5th Grade the last time the Bears were in the Super Bowl. So freakin excited right now. :D

Bear Down!!!!

I'm really excited. Well put in the other posts and I don't think I can add anything to it. I've got my Butkus jersey on. I am proud of them win or lose but let us just win it!!!

GO BEARS!!!

We must rid the NFL of unsavory characters like Peyton Manning:

The squeaky-clean face of Super Bowl XLI really made an ### of himself in 1996, while playing at the University of Tennessee. When (female) trainer Jamie Ann Naughright crouched behind him to look at a foot problem, "entirely unprovoked, Peyton Manning decided to pull down his shorts and sit on Dr. Naughright's head and face," according to her lawyer. She sued and settled out of court for $300,000.

I am SO excited! I was in seventh grade the last time the Bears made it to the Super Bowl - it's been a long time and now it's time to enjoy! :banned:

I am wearing my lucky Bears sweatshirt and am heading off to a Super Bowl party in a few. :boxing:

Orange and Blue bleeder here.

Remember watching piss poor Bears teams in the early 70s led by stellar talents like Bobby Douglass and Vince Evans...

Remember watching a shifty, high-stepping kid from Jackson State with my dad and thinking, "Wow, we may have something here..."

Remember classic Bears names like Doug Plank and Revie Sorey...

Remember being a nervous wreck on January 26, 1986, and thinking 'Please don't let it end here..." only to be elated beyond belief later (and still today)....

Remember meeting and chatting with Walter Payton in 1992 (still one of my all time favorite moments). He gave me a hard time about wearing an earring.

Remember meeting and chatting with Mike Ditka in 2000 (right up there with the Payton moment) and asking, 'Coach, what do we have to do get the roar back?" His answer? 'They gotta stand for somethin'!" Da Coach said in classic Ditka fashion. "They don't stand for a damn thing!" Somebody was listening, because that year we went 13-3.

Remember a moment last year when my daughter, 4 years old at the time, stood up in church and announced proudly to about 150 people, "We like the Bears--we don't like the Packers!" God bless that child.

And I remember every agonizing snap from this year. Hopefully, in a few hours, I'll be feeling the same elation I felt 21 years ago. And my kids will witness the first of many Bears championships in their lifetime.

I'm gonna enjoy Grossman throwing 3 or more int's.

The Bears need at least 2 defensive TD's to keep it close.

BEAR DOWN

That was tough to watch. Losing a Superbowl is not fun. :lmao:

Ron Turner and Rex are a horrible combo, imo. Turner let the offense's succes fall solely in the hands of Rex, and that was a BAD idea. They really should have stuck with the run and done so early when they took a lead. And Rex continued to make Rex-like mistakes; fumbles, ints and and throwing deep every other play.

I know that Rex is the "QB of the future" and all, but unless he can vastly improve his passing in the flats and his general decision making, he won't be able to win a SB (for any team).

Great game by Indy and Peyton though. I hope Indy fans have enjoyed this magical run by their team.

No, Virginia, there is no Lombardi Trophy.

Congrats on a good season, Bears fans. I thought you could do it with special teams and defense through the first quarter, but it became clear that the offense simply couldn't even pretend to hold its own and had no QB to fall back on, and the defense couldn't find a way to stop Peyton from chipping away at it.

Bears have a lot of offseason issues:

1 - must sign Lovie to an extension.

2 - may need a new DC if Rivera bolts for Dallas.

3 - Keep T Jones or trade him? I say keep.

4 - Benson's health?

5 - re-signing Briggs. Can they tag him?

6 - what to do with Rex? Bring in more competition?

7 - draft needs?

They really should have stuck with the run and done so early when they took a lead.
I agree, and think they would have been in a great position to do so, when they had the ball and a 14-6 lead. Then a quick fumble, and it was all pretty downhill from there. :sadbanana:

1. Absolutely - $5 million per year won't sound good to the tight-fisted McCaskeys, but they better get it done. The players love Smith and he's done a great job.2. Not too worried about this - Lovie is a defensive guy and knows what he wants on that side of the ball.3. & 4. Keep Jones and trade Benson, pending Benson's injury status. The best thing Benson's done for the Bears was to light a fire under Jones. Other than that, he's been a waste - a supreme head case. His Super Bowl performance said it all.5. They can tag Briggs and need to keep him. Period. He even said he would be willing to give a hometown discount - the Bears should negotiate fairly and quickly to lock him up.6. I don't know here. There's not much out there at QB, unless they are willing to fork over a lot to pry Schaub from the Falcons (who's more unproven than Rex at this point). If the mistakes Grossman made just seemed to be from inexperience, I would be fine with keeping him, but so many of his throws just seem utterly stupid. I think while Lovie will enter next year with Rex as the starter, he needs to let him know another roller coaster season won't be tolerated and that he won't hesitate to bench him at all, unlike this season.7. O-line is a need, in my opinion, as they are getting up there in years, and I think DT is as well, since Harris was hurt and Tank Johnson isn't the most reliable person out there. TE could use some depth and talent as well - I like Clark, but there's nobody worth mentioning on the depth chart behind him.

Regarding #3, I'd like to see CHI keep both Ced and TJ if they can continue to co-exist. They have very different running styles and make a great 1-2 punch. And with Rex at QB, having a solid running game is a must.Regarding #6, I largely agree with you. I personally wanted to see Greise at least get a chance around week 10. I think Rex will be the guy heading into 2007, but I really hope CHI will be clear with him that he is on a much shorter leash. Also, he greatly needs more guidance/mentorship. I don't know in what form, but he needs his decision making skills worked on and greatly needs to break his habit of throwing so many deep balls up for grabs. I understand that he has a strong arm an needs to take some shots down the field, but NOT 1-2 per drive. Regarding #7, form the little I've heard on him, I think Dvoracek (sp?) is promising at DT. I don't know that the position is really a high-need area. I agree that o-line is very much an area of need though. I also feel that CHI has needs help at safety. Mike Brown is great, but rarely healthy and C. Harris is HORRIBLE. I read speculation somewhere that Tony Parrish might be a good vet fit back in CHI (I think he's a FA). That might work. I actually would like to see the Bears take a late first day or early second day QB to work into the mix (I don't care for Orton at all). I just don't think it will happen.

IF Rivera bolts, I would love to see Singletary come over as the new DC. Don't know if it's possible, but that would be great.

The Bears have come a long ways in a short time under Lovie Smith. It was not so long ago that they were a laughing stock. Losses in big games are disheartening, but the return to big games is a huge step for a franchise that was floundering. I see the key to the Bears continued success to be how they deal with this loss and how they handle contracts over the next two seasons. Many good and improving franchises have never reached their potential when their players overestimate their value after a good year and tear the franchise apart over contract demands. I see this franchise at a crossroads.

They tried to stick to the run, but the Colts, except for one run, stuffed it pretty much all day. Also, you have to be able to throw the ball at some point. The Colts shut down the run and Grossman couldn't beat them. That was the ballgame.

Face it Bears Fans Rex made Ben look like a HOF QB. Rex just bumped Ben out of the bottom SB 5 QB's of all time. Get a decent Qb and you have a high quality team.

Ignoring the Ben comparison, Rex showed us during the last 20 minutes of that game why his team trusted him so little during the first 40. I'm having trouble thinking of another QB who had so few opportunities to pass over that period of time in a competitive Super Bowl game, certainly in the modern era. I think that is a statement unto itself as to what the Bears think of Grossman. Maybe he'll improve and maybe he won't but its' clear that he's not at present a franchise QB at all.
