Becareful drafting Steve Jackson (1 Viewer)

Been following some slow drafts that startup today, came to one and saw a real mess (phenoms Alpha13).

The second pick was Steve Jackson RB Carolina and the third pick was Steve Jackson RB St. Louis...problem here is the draft never stopped they are amost at mid 2nd round.. So make sure (double sure) it's the correct player you want! I think there are a few players today with same names on different teams WATCHOUT!!!

 
I remember this a few years ago with Ricky Williams-the one who loves weed and the one who used to be a backup for the Colts.

Thats a fun one to pull in an auction draft. I was mocking and paid $40 for S. Jackson (Car) and thought I got a steal. Also paid $30 for Calvin Johnson in another mock.
 
this happened in a local league i am running. guy who picks 5th draft SJAX from CAR (obviously the good one already drafted). i revert the draft immediately. tell him to pick another one. he picks the same guy. i revert it again telling him that is not the SJAX he thinks it is. he does it again. i revert it one more time and he finally catches on.

then what happens at 1.12, the guy drafts the wrong SJAX. i reverted it once and said the next moron who picks SJAX gets him.

i was probably overly nice, but it was a first time local league where i plan on making lots of cash for years to come and didnt want to be too harsh.

pretty stupid though.

I had predrafted from the 3rd slot, Steven Jackson RB Carolina. :) I was stoked when I got him, :blackdot: then miffed when I found out it was the wrong SJax. :no:

The draft fortunately was halted after my pick, :bow: and I re-selected before thing got out of hand. :yes:

I would say your draft should have been halted immediately after the bogus SJax pick.

Ron it wasn't my draft, I just popin to that league to study..the real problem was the owners in that league knew it was a mistake but kept on drafting..if I was unlucky (commish for that league) I would restart the draft from the 2nd pick again to teach them a lesson (if something goes wrong stop drafting and wait for the commish to square it out).

If you draft online and go to a QB list you can click wrong Manning...true?

I guess it depends on the drafting software; I'd expect it would at least say P Manning and E Manning, though.

Yes it would have their First name also team name..but as what this topic is about...people do make mistakes.

This happened over the weekend in the mfladdons.com Draftmaster league - someone predrafted S Jackson CAR and got him around #9 I think. The rules clearly stated beforehand to be very careful when predrafting, since no picks could be taken back. The commish was alerted but he stuck to his guns - no do overs.
 
Well from what I see there now in that league..the second pick overall did get the correct Steve Jackson (his pick was corrected)..he's lucky that unlucky changed it LOL..guess he learned his lesson today to double check now!

true, true. the 1st year i played fantasy baseball (in last minute, just grabbed a cheatsheet) , i drafted "e. chavez" thinking it was eric...not knowing there was an endy. i know position wasn't listed - team probably was - but i didn't know enough to be alert to the possibility of another e. chavez.

Well as I stated in post #24 this has been corrected by the commish..I believe the commish did the correct thing even tho the owners kept drafting to mid 2nd round...the owners have to realize if this second pick mistake wasn't corrected, that owner would be pissed off all season and could ruin the entire league..Slow drafts have 18hour timers (he could delay his picks17hours 59 mins for the next 17 picks long wait) he could just not sumit his lineups at start of season when ever he felt not to do so..he could trade great players ..the list goes on and on..Good thing it was corrected for that League.

Mike is good about stuff like that; it probably just took time to reach him. during the live drafts, he hangs around and gets issues like this fixed pronto.

Are you able to view the draft results for drafts you are not in? If so, where do you get the links for each league to see their draft order?

There are a lot of different ways to view league sites, depends on the sites..In the case here its using MFL.So you go to http://football.myfantasyleague.com/2007/index

 
There was a thread like this about 3 weeks ago where a guy selected the wrong Steve Smith.

Too many members here jumped and said it should stand because the guy didn't do his proper DD. Nice to see that attitude has softened :goodposting:

I think the whole point of this post was to point out that another SJax even exists. Prior to a week ago, I had never even heard of the other one (and I've been around ff for awhile). It's quite possible I could have pre-drafted the wrong one. Most of us are aware of the others sharing the same name.

 
Lots of threads on this back when all the initial dynasty drafts were getting started.

My favorite would be the one that was an experts draft with staff members and invited posters and someone still made the mistake.

 
Also the Bengals have 2 guys on their roster with names that sound similar.

Tj Who's your Mama? and TJ Hoshamazilli

 
Last year a guy took Tyson Thompson with the 3rd pick instead of Tomlinson in a redraft. We kept on picking and he owned up to the fact that is was his error and he would have to live with it.

 
We had a guy last year (5th year into a dynasty, mind you!) who thought he was getting a bargain trading for DeAngelo Williams, but in fact got Demetrius Williams. Although he paid a hefty price, we didn't veto it as it was his own fault.

 
I am in the alpha 13 league as I emailed Mike about the problem when I seen it. I was not sure if Mike was going to restart or let it go the way it was. I emailed the guy who made the mistake and told him I will do what ever Mike wanted,and yes I drafted but at the very least I considered it a mock draft to see what others were doing. So the guy drafting behind me was not too happy I changed my 10th pick from Maroney to Bush, but when you restart all is fair.

 
Wish I was in that Alpha13 league...not to many owners on the ball there.

Pick 28th is due up now..these are the WR's taken already.
