Beets (1 Viewer)

my god.

Always loved 'em (since becoming an adult), but this summer has been off the charts... daily beets going down.

Just made a delicious salad with chick peas, feta, spinach, cucumber, tomato and my homemade pickled beets..... it was like heaven in my mouth

juice em, pickle em, roast em... I dont care

Whoa, I am getting nauseous just reading this. My mom makes pickled beets. Everyone loves them, but I got sick of/from them as a kid and can't stand them now. To each his own.

After my 21st birthday, I am the same way with tequila.

Never used to like them much, but I like them a lot now.

They're also great for giving you a bit of a fright the next day when you forgot you ate them.

There is probably no more awful vegetable than a beet. I am glad someone likes them, but then, dogs like smelling each other's ###.

Salt, pepper and olive oil. Wrap in foil. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes until a fork goes in easily. Scrape off the skin, slice and serve in salad, with cottage cheese or simply some fresh cracked pepper.

Don't much care for the ones in a can or the pickled ones. Roasted beets are deeeeelectable.

I got a case of beets at Restaurant Depot today for $6 (25#) because the box was ####ed up. We boiled a few tonight. Not sure exactly what all I can/will do with them, but it was a good entry price.

Roasted red, golden, and purple beets with Goat Cheese, mixed Greens, pecans or walnuts, and a touch of cracked black pepper and some sea salt

Good lord that is good eating

I knew Beets would be a polarized topic.

Love em or hate em seems to be the consensus.

The purple poo and pink pee is always a scare, even though I eat them daily... you just always forget.

I think it's the trauma of eating them at a young age that usually turns ppl off... try em again, and roast them. may change your mind.

FWIW, I vomited while living in australia - ordered a burger and had NO idea they put beets on them (as mentioned) problem is, even though I love beets, when you're not expecting that earthy flavor, and you bite ino a very recognizable food.... the bodily response sucks.

You're not exactly helping the cause here, guy.

Yeah...beets are so good that if you have one on accident it will make you hurl.

Great advertisement there.

Beets, the other purple chunks in your spew.

Its weird, but for me they walk a fine line between disgusting and awesome depending on how Im feeling at the time. Sometimes I almost crave them, but most of the time I can barely stomach them. They're a superfood though and we get them with our co-op, so I power them down a couple times a year whether I like it or not. My go to in the past has been Moroccan Beet Salad, but Im going to try them roasted with some feta and fresh herbs next time.

Skip the foil and up the temperature to 400. Trust me on this.

Finish with a splash of red wine vinegar after they're sliced.

I feel the same way about them. And bananas.

Never liked beets the way one of my grandmothers prepared them (Harvard beets... simmered in vinegar, sugar, flour or cornstarch)...ugh

But my other grandmother, from Poland, made barszcz, which is like borscht, with shredded beets, that I loved for some reason... haven't had it in years since my grandmother passed but man, that soup was phenomenal...

My grandparents always had pickled beets on the table at dinner and the smell turned my stomach. I've tried to eat them a few times and I can't shake the negative association. I should probably grow some myself and have my wife work her magic to make them taste good.

I know, I know...

But you gotta understand - there are things in life that need to be knows. Beets is one of them. They have a VERY overpowering taste, and if you're not expecting that earthy blast in your mouth - well, it doesnt taste right. at all.

Beets are effing delicious. Not expecting a mouthful of it, isn;t

Beet Softball

All I've ever had is canned beets (when I was a kid). I never understood why they would can something that tastes like raw dirt.

I've never had a fresh beet, and never will.

That's what you get for drinking crappy tequila.

Used to hate them, it was a consistency thing, but my girlfriend loves them so I started experimenting with preparations that I might enjoy and now I am a huge fan. It really didn't take that long to learn to enjoy them.

I've only ever hd McDonald's beef. I don't understand why anyone would ever order a steak.

Beets rule. Never game them a chance until recently, now I'm addicted. Looking for a killer borscht recipe if anyone has one. I had a great one in Krakow a few months ago, served hot not the chilled variety. Pretty sure it had olives and bits of sausage in it. I spilled some on the white shirt I was wearing and ruined it but it was worth it.
