Ben Roethlisberger OUT vs Lions (1 Viewer)

Wondering how this changes lineup decisions. I feel like Najee and DJ are still strong starts, especially given the matchup. Only one I’d be wary of with this news is ‘Muth

No Chase Claypool either.  I think this bumps up James Washington.

Note that Big Ben was DNP on Wednesday and Thursday (he practiced in full yesterday) so Rudolph had the first string reps Wed & Thurs.

He says he is vaccinated but if so the timing makes no sense to me. Vaccinated players only have to be tested once a week unless he specifically asked to be tested more often. Vaccinated players are also not subject  subject to close contact.  There is no reason for vaccinated players to not be tested first thing each week to get that out of the way and now who is available to gameplan for the week.  Basically once a vaccinated player test negative he's good for that week. I just don't understand why he'd get tested on Friday or Saturday when you only need one a week, again unless he specifically asked to be tested more often.

Maybe he showed symptoms 🤷‍♂️

I guess it's that simple or he was close contact and felt the odds were high.

Either way I already found out the players all get their initial test on Tuesday so he had reasons to request an additional test.

Sucks but good on Ben to get checked because he could have put the test off and the risk of exposure would have been huge.

My recollection was that the Steelers were 100% vaccinated at the start of the season.  I could be wrong about that

Yes he's unlike the guy in GB appears to be telling the truth.

I guess I'm just programmed to NOT think a player would request a test that is not required and he obviously had valid reasons to do so.

@StatsGuyDaniel: Relax. Mason Rudolph has only lost once (8-1) vs. teams named after jungle cats.

2-1 vs Kansas State Wildcats

1-0 vs Southeastern Louisiana Lions

2-0 vs Pitt Panthers

1-0 vs South Alabama Jaguars

2-0 vs Cincinnati Bengals

Steelers have the right guy for the Lions game Sunday.

I actually think this means they lean on Najee more which is a good thing against the Lions. I can see the Steelers controlling the clock like the Eagles did but a bit lower scoring. 24-3.

Understand exactly what you are saying except.......it's Rudolph.
Who has now been on the team for 4 years, and wasn't as bad as everyone remembers. He was a downgrade from 2018 Big Ben, from 2021 Big Ben, I'd bet he's an upgrade, and perhaps a significant one.

Its been painful watching roethlisberger wind up and take 2-3 steps, so he can heave a 40 yard underthrow this season. Truth by told, I think he's the arguably the worst starter on the roster. He's 2015 Manning, but with maybe 30% of the intelligence, which isn't me knocking his intelligence, just saying he's less equipped to work around physical failings than Manning was.

Mason Rudolph may indeed be an upgrade at this point, but the one thing Roethlisberger has been doing well during this winning streak is protect the ball.

If Rudolph can do that then the Steelers should be okay.

I don’t typically follow betting lines Does anyone know if the line has moved at all on this game sine Roethlisberger has been ruled out?

My options for this week, since Kyler Murray is out, have narrowed down to Heinicke, Rudolph, and McCoy.  Let the good times roll.
Weather in Pittsburgh not going to be great today:  Highs in upper 30s, winds 10-15 mph, with a mix of rain and snow.

Well, I can't afford to wait until Murray gets ruled out in the later game, so I am gonna roll with Heinicke at home vs TB.  Much better weather, and hoping Heinicke can at least put up junk stats with limited mistakes while WAS tries to keep up.

Probably a good idea, on my way down to tailgate and the radio is saying wind gusts up to 25 mph at Heinz Field during game time.

it’s going to be a bit raw down there

Nearing time to drop Ben in dynasty leagues.  That ship has probably left the dock.
I dropped him a few weeks back in a league where I was in rebuild mode and no one would even pay the 5th round pick price tag I shopped him at. He was picked up on waivers that week though.
