Ben Roethlisberger (1 Viewer)

If last year is any indication of the future then Roethlisberger could very easily be a top 5 fantasy QB in the near future. Will it happen next year? I wouldn't bet on it, but it wouldn't completely surprise me.
LOFL. No way. Marc Levin, I direct your attention to this statement... this is what I have been arguing.
 I know it's poor form to bump your own threads (especially when you already bumped it earlier in the season), but I just can't help myself. I ;) this thread.

:)

One interesting thing that might get lost in Ben's top 5 finish: he's barely inside the top 15 QBs in the NFL in terms of passing attempts/game. What does this mean?

He still has upside.

:)

Well the fantasy season is over for most. What we can say is those who drafted Ben got lucky. He was injury prone in 04, 05, and 06. To be wrong for three years and get it right one time isn't anything to be proud of. Just because he survived one season doesn't make the idea that he injury-prone the wrong one. I've said all along that he'd have to post several years of productive and injury campaigns to erase the trend already established.

I wouldn't draft him in 08.

 Been with you all along.

You've been wrong all along.Incl the playoffs...He played 16 of 18 (was the back up in the first game and the last game all starters rested) his rookie year.He played 16 of 20 his second year.He played 15 of 16 (despite an apendectomy and the mortorcycle accident) his third year. And played 14 of 14 thus far this year.Thats 61 of 68 in his first four years. Does he get banged around? Yes he is very physical in his play. But to say he has survived "one season" is a fools remark.91 TDs in 61 games. And this is in Pittsburgh.

Hey BGP, how's it goin? Now that Parker broke his leg you might want to start a thread about the Steelers being cursed...

On one hand I applaud you for taking this guy to the woodshed for the verbal beating he rightly deserved...On the other hand, I kind of feel sorry for the kid. So obsessed (negatively)with the Steelers, it probably consumes a good portion of his miserable life...In any case, nice post!.

:rolleyes:Still with this? You're pathetic.

If more guys in my leagues thought like you, then more and more better players would consistently fall to me. That would be cool.

Ask Pai Mei about his opinion on gold, the FFA, werewolf and Word of Warcraft.

If PM/BGP was a mod you'd be one of the first ones to get the boot. Cleaning house and shutting down the FFA!

EBF...Wondered while watching the ballgame last night - Might the Steelers re-tool their OL to better pass protect Ben as a pocket passer - as the Steelers' lead weapon on offense? All night long (and we "know" this of The Steelers, as well...) the TV schmucks repeated that the Steelers are a "run first" club...their OL cannot protect the QB in the absence of play action potential. Without Parker, Roethlisberger will get killed, etc...Might the Steelers begin to change their identity behind Roethlisberger's talents...to become a "Pass - to set-up the Run" type of ballclub...vice a Run to set-up the Pass club?

The Steelers #1 goal this offseason is to sign Roethlisberger to an extension. Of course Ben is going to get mega-bucks but if I were him I would also insist on a revamped o-line before I signed on the dotted line. He's been sacked 93 times in the past 2 seasons. Absolutely ridiculous...

Not lucky, smart. While everyone else in my league was jumping on the regular names ( Hass, Brees, Young ), I waited, took Ben as the 9th QB off our board, and because of it snagged middle round gems like B. Edwards (5), L. White (8), and J. Cotchey (7). Edwards was central in my run to the championship, White was part of a deal that brought me Cooley, K.J., and S. Holmes, and Cotch was a solid bye week fill in and 3rd WR most of the year. All the while, I had a consistant, top 5 QB, that I spent a 10th rd pick on.No, Ben owners were smart.

That is a monster year - if they are not already as pass first team I'm not sure what is! Ben is an undisputed top 5 QB and arguably top 3 QB in my book and has taken the next step - I am thrilled to have him as my keeper QB the next 2 years for a fraction of the cost of the other top QBs!!!

 I completely agree. Ben is a top 6 QB in my league. I drafted him in the 8th. The big name QB's like Romo, Hass, Palmer were going as early as the late second / third round. Ben is excellent value this year. Who ever disagrees is

Anything is possible. Remember, it was only a few years ago that Tom Brady was merely a good, but not great fantasy QB. It's possible that Pittsburgh will see the success New England and Indianapolis have had with prolific passing attacks and try to emulate that success. Good teams build around their best player and Ben is probably the best offensive player on the Steelers. So while I wouldn't necessarily bank on Roethlisberger taking another great leap forward as an FF QB, I certainly think it's possible. He's going to finish outside the top 10 QBs in passing attempts this season. Just imagine what his numbers would be like with 50-100 more attempts.
