I think it's great that Ben has recovered so well from his accident. But I'm not convinced that he's going to be the same QB that he's been up to this point.

People who have terrible accidents like this tend to lose a little confidence. I remenber when Kevin Stevens suffered similar injuries when he had his face smashed on the ice. Stevens had been a physical, almost reckless kind of player all his career. After the injury he was never the same. He seemed to get tentative.

One of the things that has made Ben so effective is his ability to keep the play going until the last second and be willing to take the hit to get it done. Will he still be able to hang on to the ball that extra second or will this accident take that confidence away from him?

I realize this is speculation and trying to predict the unpredictable, but what do you guys think?

I think if he takes a big hit week 1 this could be a problem. Otherwise I don't think so.

I remember reading about Aikman and Young's concussions and IIRC there definitely is some tentativeness your first week back but then you tell yourself that that's no way to play this game. I figure Ben's gotta go thru that realization in his own head.

Yeah I know Ben didn't "just" have a concussion but best I can do for a halfway similar comparison

Ben did not get injured playing football. I don't see why he would be tentative. The comparison to Kevin Stevens is not good. He got injured playing hockey. He became tentative playing hockey.

Not like he's playing LB or FB. I could understand him flinching a little the 1st game or 2, and this may result in a couple more INTs but overall has shown to be very tough and fearless (he wasn't afraid to step into his throws coming back from his plant-knee injury).

this is what i was thinking. rothleisberger's injury was off-field, so i don't see why it would make him gun-shy.
