Foster owner. I offered Roddy White for Tate and a 2012 (projected) mid first round pick. Offer was made to a marginal contender with major needs at WR. Got turned down cold. At least one owner holds Tate in very high regard.
That seems to be a fair offer, maybe that is why he is a marginal contender.
white is 30. and slipping fast.Id decline too
There is no one as big on Tate as me but he is a back-up with a pretty good player to overcome to get into the starting gig. Jones is dinged-up, ATL will leave it all out on the field the next few weeks, and a first-round pick to boot; certainly seemed fair to me.
I think you misunderstood. I think he means Roddy for Tate and the Tate owner's mid-first. I'd laugh at that before hitting the reject button.
I think I misunderstood too, now. I don't know if I would of made the trade in my scenario, just that I thought it was fair. Tate, and a first, for Roddy; I'll pass.
Interesting. I guess a lot of people hold Tate in a very high regard. I think he has nice value to a Foster owner, but to anyone else he is a high-upside lottery ticket. You are basically hoping for a Foster injury, Foster not re-signing, or waiting out Tate's very inexpensive and team-friendly contact that goes through 2013. Of course, the injury could happen, but I highly doubt that Foster goes anywhere next year. So really, you are likely waiting until 2014 or hoping for an injury just to get Tate a shot. What he will do with that shot is completely unknown. Roddy White is a mid-range WR2 at WORST, with top 5 upside. 30 is not old for a WR.
The first round pick is of course, a crapshoot.
Tate and the pick are both unknowns. Roddy is a known, and you can be pretty confident that his floor is where he is right now. He didnt just lose all of his talent overnight. As has been noted repeatedly in these forums, a few pass interferences in the endzone and a few dropped TDs are the difference between Roddy being an untradable stud, and Roddy being a mid-range WR2.
If I did not have ridiculous depth at WR, the offer would have never been made on my end. I think it is a tremendous offer personally. I am gunning for a title this year, and wanted Tate only to insure against disaster. Otherwise, no chance I trade away a proven commodity for 2 unproven lottery tickets.
I think Tate is EXTREMELY overrated by his owners, and the commentary in this thread supports that theory.
