Here are Lewis' quotes about both from his press conference Monday:

Watson

"Kenny Watson had a concussion, which subsided today. He'll undergo the normal procedure, and looks to be fine. Otherwise, guys came out in pretty good shape from the game yesterday."

Rudi

Will he be ready for Week 10? "We'll see Wednesday."

Here we go again...the weekly "will Rudi play".

My stance as an owner of both. Start Watson only if Rudi is not playing. If Rudi is playing it's a RBBC for at least the first game Rudi plays in.

I'm looking elsewhere this week as I think that Rudi will be ready to play.

I figure if Rudi still isn't ready this week, Cincy is hiding something

I thought we might have crossed that bridge already this past sunday.

Stash Perry in redrafts if you haven't already. I assume he's gone in dynasty leagues still unless it's a 10 teamer.

I don't think they wanted to bring him back vs. a physical Steeler D????

Waiting for him is like waiting for the Great Pumpkin to show up.
 I think I know what it's like waiting for the great pumpkin because of Perry. I had extremely high hopes for him and always thought he was tailored for the offense.
I read this early today. I am extremly frustrated with Rudi (and my 2nd rd pick Maroney). Not sure how credible this is. Would you guys consider dumping Rudi at this point? Watson has performed well, Rudi has been hurt and since the team sucks C**k they have no reason to rush him back. Even whne he does he will split time with watson, and may still suck as he did the first few weeks. Looking for input from fellow owners:http://www.madison.com/tct/blogs/slingshots/253862

What's the bloody deal with Rudi??? :excited:

SLANTS AND SCREENS

- It sounds like running back Chris Perry is still at least three weeks away from playing in a game and that right tackle Willie Anderson won't be back for Buffalo.

Lewis had originally said Perry was supposed to start practice Wednesday, but he's checking with the NFL to see if Perry can sit on the physically unable to perform list (PUP) for one more week before he takes the field. And Lewis indicated he'll take the maximum three weeks once Perry hits the field before activating him.

Lewis said Anderson could be ready for the Nov. 11 game in Baltimore.

- It also sounds like defensive tackle John Thornton (stinger) and running back Kenny Watson (concussion) are going to be OK for Buffalo. Safety Herana-Daze Jones (shoulder) is waiting results of a test.

- Wide receiver Tab Perry, on injured reserve after having a procedure on his hip, surfaced Monday and said he can start running in five weeks. He said he might have been able to come back for the last three games, a wait the Bengals couldn't afford with roster spots.

- Running back Kenny Irons, down to 185 pounds from 200, says he's starting to kick it in the weight room as he recovers from his reconstructive knee surgery. He says he's been working on both his legs and upper body and the hope is still that he'll be back for training camp on Day One.

When was the last time Rudi actually practiced?

With the way Watson played against a very stout Pitt D, I'm riding Watson the rest of the season if I can. He still gets the cake post season schedule that Rudi has and he gets more balls out of the backfield.

While I don't ever hope a guy gets injured, I would sleep a lot better at night if they just sat Rudi for the rest of the season (Watson and Perry owner) so I can set my lineup and not have to scour the web in vain every Sunday morning for news of Rudi....

When was the last time Rudi actually practiced?
The last full practice he had was in Week 3 before the Seattle game. That's the game he suffered the injury and that was on Sept. 23. It has been over a month since he's last taken part in a full practice.

I KNOW a lot of people LOVED Rudi but the fact is he was always an "average" RB in a very good system (couldn't stack the box against him) & had a very good line in front of him. Therefore, since he was DURABLE and never missed a game his 80 yds per game (1200/1300 per year) & 10/12 TDs made him a VERY stable FANTASY RB. His YPC had been declining though, he never broke any long runs and the team had used HIGH draft picks on RBs recently which is never a good sign. I personally think he is finished and I think the "injury" is a way for the team to get Watson involved and possibly deal Rudi in the offseason since he would have lost his job to injury rather than declining play...Either way, I wouldn't bank on productive numbers from him in 2007 and if I owned both would "root" for Watson to stay the primary back there...

Rudi was always a hard running consistant player. Watson looks real good and I think it only prudent that you have to at least consider him the starter going forward. I dont think Rudi was overated in fantasy leagues, I always saw him as an anchor for your running back corp.

Rudi practices Wednesday. Watson sits. From RotoWorld:

Rudi Johnson (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since September 19 and is expected to play Sunday against the Bills.

Kenny Watson (concussion) isn't practicing, so if Rudi makes it through the week unscathed, he could play a prominent role in a favorable matchup. The Bengals haven't made a decision on activating Chris Perry (ankle, leg) from the PUP list yet. The only other tailback on the roster is DeDe Dorsey.

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

Kenny Watson (concussion) sat out of Bengals practice Wednesday.

At this point in time, it doesn't look like Watson will be available for normal duty against the Bills. With Rudi Johnson (hamstring) apparently returning healthy, Watson's stay as Cincinnati's interim starter may have come to an end. Check back later in the week to see if Watson makes any progress.

The Bengals RB situation has me going bonkers!!!!

If Watson sits, is Rudi a good play this week? I'm worried that Rudi starts and then gets 5 carries and then leaves the game.

Marvin Lewis comments on Wednesday. From RotoWorld:

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says Kenny Watson, Rudi Johnson, and DeDe Dorsey all could get a "piece of the pie" Sunday at Buffalo.

However, Watson (concussion) needs to get back on the practice field, and Dorsey has done little since being signed, so he's not a good bet to play a big role. Until Watson shows he's healthy, expect Rudi to be the main man.

Coaches always say this "everyone will play" stuff. And it is always true. On average probably 3 different RBs touch the ball in lots of offenses. As a Rudi owner, I am playing him as long as he practices all week. I still want to hear how much he practiced this week (limited vs. full participation). That week that Rudi did play, he only practiced on a friday and it was known before hand that he wouldn't start. This year more than any I have trusted players returning from injury cause in this day and age no player goes unless he is at least 90% healthy (IMO of course). Look at Boldin and Ward as examples.....they each probably sat out one extra week than they needed to. Even Sjax came back and did well and only sat cause of a different injury. And Watson very well could sit this week. Unless it was a mild concussion, they usually take a week off.

Not to hijack or anything but how did SJax do well? He had 40 yards and a TD, but he left the game in the first half due to injury. How is that good for him?

He played well before the injury. That's what the guy said. 40 yards and a TD in less than a half. I'd say that's pretty good.

:confused:Johnson (hamstring) returned to practice on Wednesday morning, the Bengals' official site reports.Meanwhile, Kenny Watson sat out the morning drills due to his concussion. It looks like Johnson will be returning to the lineup this week against Buffalo.

It's not really a different injury, it's a side effect of the groin injury causing his back muscles to overcompensate. I would say overall it's good for him because he did well while in and as the groin heals more, the back problems he had will dissipate.

Another update from RotoWorld:

Bengals coach Marvin Lewis says Rudi Johnson and Kenny Watson will rotate in Week 9 because of concern over Johnson fatiguing in the game.

Johnson is coming back from a four-week hamstring injury, and while he'll play, is only worth using as a flex at Buffalo because he's expected to see half the workload at best. "We want to make sure we’re not going to overload Rudi at this point," Lewis said. Rudi practiced fully on Wednesday.

Source: Cincinnati Enquirer

FWIW, Rudi declared himself "100% healthy" after practive today per NFL Total Access.

This Rudi/Kenny thing has been frustrating to say the least. I'm thinking it's a role reversal this week with Rudi getting the large bulk of the carries, Dorsey "giving him some love", and Watson being inactive with the concussion. If this happens I need Rudi to flop or be a beast and make Watson a non-factor. I can dream, right?

Quotes from Rudi and Lewis:

"It's just one of those things where I wasn't ready to go," said Johnson, the team's leading rusher for the past four seasons. "I wasn't myself on the field at Kansas City and I wanted to make sure that once I got back on the field I was myself. I want to get a great week of practice in this week and today started off with a great practice for me. My leg is fine so I'm back to being Rudi J."

Head coach Marvin Lewis would not disclose which back would start at Buffalo. Watson did not practice Wednesday because of a concussion he suffered late in the game against the Steelers but he is expected to return and work out today. He was not available for comment Wednesday.

"We'll just integrate them both into the game plan, and go from there," said Lewis on Wednesday. "A healthy Rudi hasn't played in five weeks basically so we want to make sure we're not going to overload Rudi at this point, either, so we have to use both guys - actually use all three players. We'll use DeDe (Dorsey) as well. We'll use all three backs and try to give everybody a little piece of the pie."

So if the split is 50/40/10 for Rudi/Watson/Dorsey what's a FF owner to do? Bench them all? Start 1? Start 2?

Watson back at practice today. From RotoWorld:

Kenny Watson returned to a complete practice Thursday, a day after sitting out due to a mild concussion. He's expected to play at Buffalo.

Rudi Johnson (hamstring) also put in another full workout. Johnson figures to be the favorite for goal-line carries, but Watson has performed well in short yardage and could also be an option there. Expect close to an even carry split between the two, with DeDe Dorsey possibly getting a couple of touches. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis hasn't specified who'll start the game.

Same here. I'll take my chances with Rudi even if he's splitting carries against a bad run defense. Here are some quotes from Watson. Without reading too much into it - OK I'm going to do that :useless: - this could be an indication Rudi will return to the starting lineup and get the bulk of the carries with Watson spelling him. Again, that's just my interpretation:"(Rudi's) the workhorse, so he's used to getting 25, 30 carries. (I'm used to) two or three."

Best if we just have another option this week. However untill Rudi shows that he has a little pop in his step I think its the Kenny Watson show from here on out. The fact that he makes comments stating Rudy is the starter are just humble, and indicate Watson has a bit of class, IMHO. I wish I had another Option myself. I will be starting Watson, he may not get as many carrys this week but I think he will end up with the better production line. But I agree that for now its assume they will give Rudy the Lions share, if for no other reason to gage his potential production for the rest of the season.Rudy 15 Rushing 40 yards .05 TD's

Watson 11 Rushing 50 yards .05TD's/ 6 rec 30 yards and .05 td's

Dorsey 3 Rushing 10 yards.

Ditto. And I just think he's the guy here if he's healthy. Watson has done well but I'm not buying into the belief that he'll be the starter or it will be a 50-50 split. I think if Rudi's healthy he gets the bulk of the carries and Watson gets enough to spell him and handles the third-down role. Rudi has four seasons of production on his resume to prove how important he is to this team. I'd be very surprised if that just got tossed out the window if he is back to 100%.

Rudi has four seasons of production on his resume to prove how important he is to this team. I'd be very surprised if that just got tossed out the window if he is back to 100%.
Kenny Watson has looked much better than Rudi Johnson this season.

Watson back at practice today. From RotoWorld:Kenny Watson returned to a complete practice Thursday, a day after sitting out due to a mild concussion. Bengals coach Marvin Lewis hasn't specified who'll start the game.Source: Cincinnati Enquirer
This paragraph is equivalent to saying "maybe, probably, I don't know, possibly, we'll seeNo starter named, split carries, might both be the goal line back, w/ a 3rd RB getting looks. Uggghhh.
I would say that if he practices today full speed he gets the bulk of the carries on Sunday....I'm starting Rudi over Watson...
Same here, and I'm looking forward to the Rudi we saw in preaseason. I'm sure he's itching to get back to being Mr Consistent

Right, and there is the Problem, was Rudy injured before the start of the season and he or the Bengals didnt tell anyone. His production last year was in decline but respectable. I have to much respect for his hard nosed running to delcare Rudy DOA, but he's gonna have to come out and swing hard this week to convince me that it wont be Watson going forward. Watson has looked much better with the pigskin then I would have ever imagined, couple with the Receiving skills and I dont know. If I owned Rudi I would start him, I own Watson so I have to be carful not to let that Bias creep into the discussion. If Rudi looks explosive and is productive, argument over. If he pounds out 3 yards and a cloud of dust, while Watson churns out 4+ a carry? Like I posted before, wish I had another by week option.

I apologize for asking an assistant coach type question...

But do you guys view Ryan Grant as a better start this week over Rudi or Watson?
