Benson/Addai/Grant (1 Viewer)

Smells like chicken
these 3 FA's have been garnering little interest.

Are they done?

Where do they Land if anywhere?

I'll guess

Benson - Detroit

Addai - Denver

Grant - Oakland - recent blogger story about this

Thoughts?

It's Denver backfield getting little crowded? I don't think they will bring in another rb, unless he can play on special teams.

The others are likely especially Detroit. With Best concussions and Leshoure injury I was surprised they didn't address that with early draft pick. Benson makes sense.

The problem for these guys is that a lot of teams seem to have a formula of 1 starter, a COP backup who is good on passing downs, beyond that it's guys who can help on STeams. Benson and Grant especially aren't in the last 2 groups, so they either have to convince someone they're still starters or hope for a Mcgahee/Bettis type of short yardage role.

I just think it's a numbers game when you're talking about being the backup "workhorse" on a team.

In other words, I'm not surprised teams aren't lining up for these guys. And I say that as a big Ced Benson supporter the last 3 years.

personally I think Addai is done. But if he did land somewhere it might be Denver.

The NFL might be sick of Benson too, he hasnt gotten a sniff from what I herd.

I think the Chargers might give one of them a call/tryout. Right now their #2 RB is Brinkley and he's just not very good.

The Pats had Addai/Grant/Hightower in for a visit a few weeks ago...they could use one more RB and since they didn't draft one it wouldn't surprise me to see one of these guys end up in Foxboro...

I think LeRon McClain would get alot of touches. Edwin Baker, a late round draft pick is interesting, he was highly regarded as a recruit IIRC. But yeah a Benson/Addai type for depth would make sense.

These guys probably need Hightower to come off the board first as I believe he's the best all around FA RB available. The Skins have already said that they want to re-sign him and the Pats have had him in for a visit so there appears to be a market for his services if healthy. I'm not sure what his timetable is to be cleared physically, but he brings more to the table than the rest.

They might also benefit from playing the waiting game and seeing if any major injuries pop up. A guy like Brandon Jacobs probably jumped at the first offer he had...only to now find himself on maybe the deepest depth chart in the NFL.

Teams (in no particular order) that I think would be shopping for RB depth would be:

Detroit

Oakland

Pittsburgh

Atlanta

Arizona

Dallas

Green Bay

San Diego

New England

I dont think Steelers are in the market now for a RB after drafting Chris Rainey in the 5th rd to be their scat back.Steelers RB's:R. Mendenhall [PUP]I. Redman [starter/Goal Line]J. Dwyer [Primary Backup/Change of Pace]J. Clay [3rd RB]C. Rainey [RB/WR - Dexter McCluster Clone]In fact, they actually released RB Chad Spann today.

Clay over Baron Batch?

Id be willing to bet one if not both get cut unless they play special teams

If Addai is healthy I would guess he ends up in New England. At lest a couple of these guys might not land until injuries hit a team in training camp.

ESPN Milwaukee reports free agent RB Ryan Grant is mulling an offer from the Lions.Grant has already visited the Patriots and is believed to have received an offer from them as well. We're skeptical that there would be much guaranteed money and a secure roster spot from either organization. At this stage of his career, Grant is merely veteran insurance in case the teams' top options fail to develop or remain sidelined by injuries.

Think Grant will end up back in Green Bay because he won't get what he likes.
my vote is here
Is this a situation where the Pack has an offer in to Grant and he does not like the amount of the offer?
It's probably the veteran minimum if that.
I think the veteran minimum is probably um, the minimum. ;)
I think he meant no offer. Which according to Grant's agent that's been the case.

Tom Silverstein #Packers RB Ryan Grant is in Detroit today to visit with #Lions coaches and staff. It's very possible he could sign there soon. Grant hasn't been getting any attention from the Packers and the Patriots just agreed to terms with former Indianapolis RB Joseph Addai, so Grant's options are limited. Grant had visited the Patriots and it's still possible they're interested, but the signing of Addai would seem to indicate they've found their guy. There is mutual interest with Grant and the Lions. 3 minutes ago

(Rotoworld) Updating several previous items, free agent Ryan Grant never did meet with the Lions as reported on Monday.

Analysis: A Lions official disputed a report that Grant was ever scheduled to visit the club. The source for the initial report was Grant's agent. The Detroit Free Press attempted to contact Grant's agent on Monday, but their calls were not returned. The initial story last week claimed that the Lions had a contract offer on the table for Grant, and we'd now be forced to question that.
