Berman was SOOOO bad last night (1 Viewer)

ESPN's coverage of the draft last night was a nightmare.

-Berman would talk non-sense

-Berman is terrible at ad-libbing

-Berman talked WAY too much.

-Berman would fumble his words and just talk in a circle without actually saying anything

-There would be awkward silences

-Mel Kiper was pretty quiet all night and hardly said anything

-Mel Kiper appeared pissed off at Berman and tried to goad him a few times to talk about prospects

-There was not enough breakdown of a player's skill, it was more just jibber jabber.

Only reason we continued watching ESPN is because it was in HD and did not have NFLN in HD. Won't make that mistake again.

didn't they have five at the table in the past...

first year i can remember without tom jackson...

steve young's absence was a big plus... he repeatedly brought things to a screeching halt...

overall, i thought just having gruden & kiper with berman was an improvement...

that said, i much prefer mayock & eisen at nfl network, with mooch adding coaching commentary, and faulk/irvin offering player's perspective... eisen does a good job of keeping the other four commentators from tripping over each other...

I think that was supposed to be Berman's duty this year, and he failed miserably. Instead of throwing it to Gruden and Kiper and not talking too much, he just rambled.

I made the mistake of recording the first hour and half on espn and start watching it late. Was really pissed I could'nt change the channel, I was stuck with them for most of the night...

:goodposting:Less of Berman and more of Gruden and Kiper, especially Gruden.

Berman should have been put out to pasture long ago. Gruden is the man, I really like listening to his take on everyone. Really like it when he takes an opposing view to Kiper, then owns him.

Haven't even flipped to ESPN out of curiosity for several years. NFLN, while far from perfect, is way better and the personalities are way less annoying. Eisen>Berman. Mayock>Kiper. Mooch<Gruden. Good to hear they ditched Young, now if NFLN would ditch Irvin.

watched NFLN all night. the only time i flipped over to espn was during the locker pick

gruden calling out kiper on locker was funny as hell

I watched the NFL network. And I'm happy I did. I flipped to ESPN a few times on commercial, and when I heard Berman making the Corey Liuget puns, that was it. I just watched commercials for the rest of the night. All I have heard was how bad ESPN's coverage was, so I think I'll stay with the NFL network for today.

Gruden actually has a lot to say. And its pertinent to the situation at hand as well! Hopefully they will just cut Berman's mic and not tell him.

I moved about a month and a half ago and just realized I dont get NFLN (landlord pays the cable)....ESPN was torture last night. Berman has been a joke for at least a decade. He's probably gonna be the JoePa of broadcasters and be at ESPN until he feels its his time because theyll never find him. NFLN is much better.

I also dont understand why they have McShay and Kiper on SC for months before the draft going back and forth on prospects, but McShay isnt there for their draft coverage. Having the Kiper and McShay banter during the draft would make it much more interesting/entertaining and certainly more tolerable.

It was definitely horrible. Was telling my wife the same thing. Berman was rambling incoherently, tons of dead time where nobody would say anything. What I found funniest was when Kiper would respond to something Berman said about a player or team and Berman would get really defensive and say something like "I KNOW that....". This happened like 4-5 times that I saw. Berman was just saying wacky irrelevant stuff constantly. Was weird.

I can't stand Berman, he is annoying and thinks he's funny. I wish they would stop telling us the pick 2 minutes before!

I agree. He was terrible. I hate Time Warner for making me watch ESPN and not giving me the NFL Network option.

Both Kiper and Gruden seemed pissed. At one point, Gruden tried to slickly reach into his pocket for his phone. He had it under the table and was reading it as Berman rambled on.

I loved the addition of Gruden and subtraction of Young. ESPN needs to move past Berman at this point - it's over.

I sure hope he does not continue the same ol Berman that announces the pick just seconds before the commish announces the pick, we obviously know that Berman is getting the info feed to him from the production trailer

When has been Berman been anything but a jabroni?

And when you got 4 hours to kill, non-sense and gaffs are gonna happen

I planned on watching NFLN and ESPN, hitting previous channel on the remote every commercial. ESPN was so awful I just left it on NFLN and even watched their commercials instead of putting it on ESPN at all.

I only watched the first hour or so on espn. Did Gruden say a negative thing about a player all night?

It seems that he only heaps praise on players and coaches.

This.Gruden just gushes about EVERYONE, glossing over any negative and says that they're awesome. The problem is: if everyone's awesome, then no one's awesome and the analysis is lacking because it all just amounts to "this guy's great!"

He really struggled with ad-libbing; it was brutal. You'd expect more from such a seasoned journalist. You have to think his producer is coming out of this unemployed.

I mentally merged Eisen with Kiper and Gruden. Everyone else that was on my TV was annoying, or annoying as h.e. double hockey sticks (see Berman).
