Bernard Pollard (1 Viewer)

Team ROFLCOPTERS

For a guy who was run out of town in KC he played amazing last year. I didn't get to watch him last year but his numbers were through the roof playing 13 games. Am I missing something here?

Pollard was poor in coverage with the Chiefs, but I think he was either made a scapegoat by the Chiefs or Haley just didn't like him. He certainly should not have been cut outright. He played much better in coverage last year, although it is still his weakness. If he plays average in coverage, it is good because he is a best in run defense.

Also, Pollard is my example for why DBs are so difficult to rank. He is the only DB (combined CB & S) that has finished in the top 25 in FBG scoring in each of the last 3 years. That is amazing. No other position comes close to this. That is why you can look at all of our rankings and see the wild fluctuations that we have...and they start right sat the top of the rankings. I literally can rank some DBs in the top 10 and outside the top 30 and be right in both instances.

When I say DBs are impossible to rank, I'm not kidding. They are extremely difficult to rank.

:kicksrock: After 3 years of an IDP dynasty, I've learned to never count on a DB for much in pre-season or invest much in them for the long term. Two years ago I got Yeremiah Bell off of the waiver wire and last year I got Tyvon Branch. These guys were gold in our tackle heavy format, but I've let them both go in the subsequent Restricted Free Agent auction because other owners are offering too much and I know another similar player will be available around week 4. The only DB I've had through the entire life of the league is Roman Harper.

How is he not your #1 DB, if he is the most consistent option out there, by your own admission?

Two reasons: I think other players have much more upside and also, I think the Texans overall defense will be better and that would give Pollard fewer tackle opportunities this year. Consistency is important, but there are a lot of factors. But realistically, my top 10 or so DBs are relatively interchangeable anyways (for this year) and pretty much in one tier, so the difference between 1 and 10 is minimal. But we have to rank them in numerical order.I'll have more to say about my specific redraft rankings philosophy, by position, in an upcoming article, along with rankings of players and why they are ranked where they are.

Well I am a gambling man and I drafted Bell and pollard as my starters in the tackle heavy IDP survior league, if they both put up 90 solo tackles I will be laughing all the way to the bank!!! it will be like having two top 10 LB at Saftey in a tackle heavy league!!!

Speaking of that, are there DBs out there who will actually be used at LB? Last year, I picked up Bryan Scott who, due to injuries, played several games at WLB for the Bills. These situations (i.e., DB @ LB, DL @ LB, etc.) are GOLD.
