Bert Berry (1 Viewer)

So, I thought I was really sneaky grabbing Berry who is listed as Dline, but playing OLB (or so I thought) He has been virtually non-existent. Any Arizona homers or experts who can tell me what the deal is?

Thanks!

I am interested in this as well. I have not seen the Cards this year.

In the gamebooks, I see that in week #1, he started as OLB in a 3-4-4 defense. Then in week #2 he started as RDE in a 4-3-4 defense. In week #3 he started as RDE in a 3-3-5 defense. Obviously the most productive scheme for Berry would be the one from week #1 and the worst would be the one from week #3.

How often do the Cards move Berry around the field during the game? How often do they change their defensive scheme?

From the Dockett thread:

In the majority of the snaps I've been able to watch, the Cardinals have been playing 3-4 as a base defense and a 3-3-5 or 4-2-5 on clear passing downs.
So in the 3-4-4 or 3-3-5, is Berry playing DE or OLB? Since his stats have been pretty bad, I am assuming he's DE which makes his value very low going forward. If OLB, then I don't know why he is not posting better stats than he is.

He does play end at times in the 3-3-5, with Wilson, Hayes and Dansby behind, but that's not really much different than a 4-3 for the DE role. He's an OLB in the 3-4. Berry isn't nearly the all-around player Okeafor was, though, and wasn't a great bet to significantly increase his tackle or coverage stats. He also doesn't have the elite speed that many of the better ROLB have, so he's going to be matchup dependent -- poor OTs, likely to be ahead, etc.
