Sound City - Real to Reel

This reminds me a lot of Probot.. the much ballyhooed Dave-Grohl-plus-a-million-special-guests heavy metal album. At the end of the day the songs just weren't very good and these ones aren't, either.

interesting, Ive giving this record a solid 5/6 spins now. the best stuff IMO is the rick springfield song, the Corey taylor/rick nielsen and tracks 7 & 8 which is pretty much QOTSA w/Homme.

the paul Mccartny & stevie nicks songs are meh.

I however dig the probot album anything with Cronos and Thom G. Warrior on it is awesome. Plus the hidden I am the warlock track

Warm Soda, which combines poppy guitar with grungy vocals, has seen increasing recognition for its catchy tracks and a summery, garage-rock sound.

Listening to Warm Soda’s debut LP "Someone For You", which is set for release on March 26 via Castle Face Records, it’s no surprise that the album was recorded in California as each track glistens with a distinctly laid back feel. You can stream "Someone For You" in its entirety here.

Phosphorescent's new album thats due in a couple weeks is now streaming here.

Only gave it 1 listen so far, but I like it. Hard to describe, but there's definitely more going on sound-wise (or should I say production wise) compared to previous albums, yet still sounds undeniably like Phosphorescent. Id recommend the previous album, Here's To Taking It Easy, for those unfamiliar with the band as a first listen though.

Been listening to this one a lot lately. It's jumped to the top of my list for the year at this point.

Yeah, even though I liked it from first listen, its really grown on me. Firmly in my top 3 with Ben Harper and Local Natives, I will be surprised if any album bumps one down.Seeing Phosphorescent for the first time tonight. Pretty ####### stoked. I had never heard of the opening band, buts its another 1 guy band/songwriter like Phosphorescent (Matthew Houck) that goes by a "band name", Strand of Oaks. Been listening to him/them the last few days more than Phossy, its really good stuff. I think anyone who likes Phosphorescent would like it.

Just listened to the new Phosphorescence tonight. Easy vault in to the early #1 slot for me this early in the year. I was very impressed. But I'm a sucker for Dobro/lap steel/slide stuff.How was he live?

The show was great. Honestly Song for Zula (the lead single) may have been my least favorite of his set, only song Phossy didnt have a guitar in his hands IIRC. Love the studio version of it, but it felt awkward/forced live. But really, thats a minor complaint. If Bloomington, Indiana was closer, Id be there tomorrow. I woke up at 6am and couldnt fall back asleep, still on a rush from this show. He killed it, and talked to plenty of people after the show. in my book.Set was:

Bands are often described as coming "out of nowhere," as if they'd sprung into existence fully formed and hadn't spent years writing songs and polishing their collective voice and sound. The New York City quintet Caveman only entered the national consciousness last year, but its searching, dreamily rendered, deftly executed pop-rock is the stuff of painstaking craftsmanship and creative relentlessness.

Occasionally recalling a more languid incarnation of The Shins — singer Matthew Iwanusa often channels the sweet-voiced yearning of that band's James Mercer — Caveman smartly weaves in new-wave touches for shading, alongside hooks that linger without ever becoming overbearing. What Caveman's self-titled second album lacks in overt grabbiness, it gains in inviting, atmospheric warmth; this is a band that, only two albums into its career, already understands the art of the slow burn and the subtle build. Caveman is the epitome of a grower: a moody, cohesive, expansive set of songs that reveal their complexity, and unveil their surprises, quietly over time.

Highly recommend if you like Arcade Fire, Fleet Foxes, or The Shins.

He is, but obviously he's kind of got his own aesthetic vision. I think Earl does too, he's still in that camp, but I think he's interested in working more with outside producers and focusing more on complex wordplay and rhyme schemes than trying to offend people.

Havent been able to play anything. I uninstalled and reinstalled it, same problems. It said it was likely due to firewalls, but Spotify is allowed firewalls according to how I have it set. Is this some problem on their end? Any suggestions?

There's not much as far as Spotify config options. Proxy settings are about the only thing that can be changed within the app.

You could try tempoarily disabling whatever firewall you're using but that's just to isolate the problem, not a long term solution.

There's not much as far as Spotify config options. Proxy settings are about the only thing that can be changed within the app.

I take it by "proxy settings" you just mean like the preferences you can have on Spotify? Im just using the standard windows firewall, but thats the thing, its already disabled for spotify and has been. I dont think completely disabling the firewall (for everything) would even make a difference considering I already have it disabled specifically for spotify and some other programs. Dammit.

Dear Miss Lonelyhearts Cold War Kids. I'm not usually a fan of theirs, but maybe I need to go back and check their old stuff out because I do like this album.

Reel to Reel Sound City Soundtrack- all original songs produced by Dave Grohl and featuring Paul McCartney, Josh Homme, Stevie Nicks, etc. Straightforward rock, pretty standard and the whole doesn't equal the sum, but still worth a listen.

Thanks for the heads-up. I heard a promo clip (maybe title track?) that didn't really impress me. Sounded kinda cheesy. Is this their first new release since 'Strange Cousins'?And yeah, C! kicks ###.

Going to see them on tour with Orange Goblin on Wednesday at First Ave. Can't wait, Earth Rocker (and OG's latest) are both great albums.
