I feel you...I've had some bad ones myself. I think the biggest mistake I see is people not drafting optimally based on where they are in the draft. It's super "trendy" in fantasy nowadays to refuse to let your draft slot influence your draft strategy, which explains some of the questionable drafting I've been seeing lately.

 
Another player I've noticed I have been taking a lot is Cameron Artis-Payne. JStew has a body that's 15 years older than he is and Fozzy is a guy that I'm happy he has found a place in the league but isn't really a lead back.

WR/WR or maybe WR/RB if there is a particularly good value still on the board. You can't field three WRs in week 9 right now, with Maclin and Tate both on bye.

He only has two with a week 9 bye but I agree with grabbing another WR or two. I think his WRs are pretty weak.

 
Suggest paying attention to who is drafting with you as you'll find a lot of fantasy writers. They do so many. I was in one with Matthew Berry last year. You get a better sense of how they pick when you are in the flow of a draft vs. reading a draft report.

I did 5 last year and will probably do 5 again this year. If you win 1 out of 5, you double your money.

I like this one. It wasn't as interesting as the Gronk draft, but being at the end of a round always makes for a weird mix of bargains and reaches.

I think Woodhead is the wrong kind of RB to take late, but there are enough questions about the guys I have that I wanted some stable points. Benjamin didn't feel like a good pick, but he was tops on my board. Best ball makes him better.

Just like the other team I posted, I went after the old WRs - I've consistently done well in best ball formats with old WRs.

I got Tre Mason at 9.12 in my current draft. Has he been falling that far? I'm not super high on him but couldnt pass him at that point

Mason went 8.08 in my current one. It all depends on the draft but has an ADP 7.05. Personally I still don't like Mason at 9.12 still. Bush and David Cobb are both going in the 10th and I like both of them better than Mason.

I think Cobb has a better chance of being a lead back for the whole year and Bush has a better chance of being a 3rd down back and getting more catches.

How have you Gronk drafters done the next few rounds of your draft? Depending on who is there have you gone RB-RB knowing you have a WR1 in Gronk or taken the RB/WR approach?

Mine is posted here. I took him 1.01, so there was an RB cliff coming at the end of the 2nd. I think I did about as well as it's possible to do in that situation. If a couple more RBs had gone, I would have been forced to grab a WR instead.

It's a lame answer, but it depends on what's available. It also depends on your confidence in some of the 3rd-5th round RBs. If you have a pet guy you really believe in, fine. If not, you almost have to go RB-RB to end up with a good team.

Looking back after the three drafts I did, I really like the late old vet WRs I was able to pick up, so I don't regret picking RBs so often early in the draft. If anything, I would go even stronger with RBs early (or stud QB or TE) if I knew I would get the WRs I did from the 5th round on.

I think he was that high because of Dynasty drafts then the MFL10s had people timing out at the 1.01 pick and auto drafted him.

Not to say that he isn't worth a first but the best ball format really doesn't allow for RBs to fall. You can get guys like Woods in the last round who put up 150 points last year. I doubt you'll find an RB that put up that many points last year past the 8th round.

Basically, I don't think OBJ was the actual first overall pick and 2.03 is probably closer to where he should go.

Usually I draft Gronk late like that and I'll roll off RB/RB/RB knowing that the 5/6 turn is prime WR territory with DJax, Maclin, Landry, Bryant, Robinson typically hanging around there.

I actually like taking Gronk at 1.01 better. Just because I like the RBs at the 2/3 more. By that 3/4 turn it's pretty thin and you kind of have to hope someone falls. Plus, from the 1.01 spot you can still end up with a pretty good WR combo at the 4/5 turn.

 
Gronk/RB is almost a must. Mid-late 3rd is tough to find an RB1 and fairly easy to find a Wr1 or maybe RB2.

Specifically I like something like Gronk/Murray then Jordy/Cobb/AJG if I can. Even a falling stud WR gets you in trouble. Gronk with DT or Julio seems great on paper but the RBs can leave you chasing.

 
One thing that I've found myself doing is going after QBs earlier. A-rod in the 3rd is excellent. This draft is from the 7 spot and still in progress but I like the way it looks.

I would agree in a regular league with you G but not in best ball. Murray isn't going to get the same volume, going to a worse OL, has had injuries. Foster is 29 (I think). CJ is dependant on Manning staying healthy and productive.

I'm not disagreeing with you that I would draft those three ahead of the 2/3 group but could Forsett, Gore and Gordon possibly put up the same amount of big games as the 1/2 backs? I think so.

Difference of opinion I guess.

 
I'm with Broadway on this one. I haven't been able to get Forsett even in the late 2nd, so that leaves Gordon, Miller, and Gore at the 2/3 turn. If I'm taking Gronk I'd much rather be toward the end of the 1st and pair him with Murray, Anderson, or Foster, or even Forsett in the 2nd, then go either WR/RB or RB/RB at the 3/4 turn, where there are plenty of RB options I like left. While Foster is getting old, he's money when on the field. Murray should still be solid in Phi, and he doesn't have to duplicate last year's results to justify current ADP, in the Kubiak system Anderson could likely be just fine even if Osweiler is starting (imo), and Forsett should be a PPR monster. Something like 1.07-10 is, for me, the best spot for Gronk if available there. That way I can pair Gronk with two strong RBs and a fringe WR1. But each to their own...

Not to hi-jack this (but since we are talking about Gronk) but I've been doing several best balls and now I added one FFPC slow draft classic. If any if you are doing those types--how high does Gronk go there getting the 1.5 per reception? I imagine he will go earlier than in MFL. What strategy the ?

Crazy, Spiller has been going late 2nd/early 3rd and Evans mid 2nd in the MFL10's. Heck Gurley & Watkins go in the 4th. You got crazy value.

 
Started a new MFL10 yesterday and Dez is starting to drop pretty good. I stopped his fall at 2.03. Julio, Brown, DT and Green all went before him.

I like the start of Gronk, Forsett and Luck in the 3rd, though not a fan of Keenan Allen as a WR1. I would have like AJ better at that spot. I'd try this if Luck were there in the 3rd, but in the mid-2nd it seems a little too risky to me.

You may be right, but it also may be deliberate with people who do a lot of MFL10s. I know I try all kinds of different team makeups when I'm doing this over and over, especially since I seem to get the same or close to the same spot in the draft order.

Ben at 8 and Olsen at 6 really put you off course in my eyes. Who was left at RB in at the 6.08 pick? QBs are strange though because it all depends on the draft. They're the biggest point producers and if your league goes on a run you could be left with a 100 point deficit before the year even starts.

Overall, not bad though. I think I'm going to try and do about the same in this current draft I'm in. One solid RB in round one then just try to basically stream RB2s by drafting lots.

33 rbs were off the board at 6.05. Next 3 taken were Doug Martin, Crowell and Sankey, followed by me with Vereen. Looking back over the draft, Olsen was a terrible idea, but I thought I was being super tricky by dominating TE. Could have been B. Marshall, D. Jackson, V. Jackson, Roddy... oh well. I think the Steelers O is going to be insane this year so am pretty high on Ben. My winning teams from last year each only had 1 true stud rb but had dominant tes. Tried to engineer that here but perhaps tried a bit too hard.

Is it to the point that some are over doing it and maybe this year it is take best value early and load up on RBs late? Calvin Johnson late 2nd or Lamar Miller/ CJ Spiller? Taking Gronk in first makes it so 1st RB will be in the 3rd at the earliest.

Probably.

It seems that in general, go RB-strong early in the offseason when everyone wants to believe that this is finally the year that RBs won't be king. Later in the summer, everyone realizes they're stuck with Forsett as their RB1 and skews back toward the RBs, making the other strategies more of an option.

In mine, early means early. I actually like RB RB if I can get 2 T10 backs this year because everyone is spending 3rd-5th rd picks on question mark RBs who can easily lose their jobs. Use those rounds to clean up WR value that falls or go elite at QB/TE. If I don't do that, I'm avoiding this RB run in 3-6 rounds and trying my luck at the scrap heap RBs late and hoping I got vaue everywhere else.

I like Gore a lot. Otherwise yes I'm out on that list. Too high of a pick for maybes. Value across the board at other positions if you get yourself stable at RB out of the gates this year.

You should throw up a roster you did with no RBs from the 3rd to 6th. I like seeing how rosters turn out when people use different strategies. A lot of times going against the grain is where the value is found.

Luck probably won't be there. He seems to be going consistently around the 2/3 turn in all the leagues I'm in. You might be able to go A-Rod though.

Neither was there. I've made 4 picks so far, all rbs. Interesting to see how this shapes out. I got Lynch and Forte as already mentioned, Gore and M.Ingram.

Thank you for the stats. Do you have these numbers just from your own drafts or do you have somewhere else you are getting them from?

 
So based off of the numbers, you pretty much have the most likely to win, roster make up and which position to draft in each round?

Did you find out the most likely draft spot to win from?

 
Since you have the stats I have lots of questions.

- Which round gives you the best EV for WR1, WR2, TE1, QB, RB2 etc?

- You may have answered this already but, which players were the most common of winning teams? And how are you applying this to your drafts?

- After crunching the numbers what does your ideal roster look like?

- Is there an ideal mix of long shots and floor guys?

- How often does the slow and steady team outperform the boom/bust teams by the end of the year?
