Best Board Games (3 Viewers)

Anyone play Dead of Winter Crossroads, and anyone have a solid 2 person catan setup?
I've played the hell out of it...great game.MiniDoss even enjoys it.

Next level boardgaming...very fun.
For dead of winter can it work well with two people? It says 2-5 I believe. I'll probably have to youtube it to learn so I can teach the girlfriend quick enough before she gets bored.
Not sure about 2 people...haven't tried that. I guess it could work...

I can't recommend "Crokinole" enough.

If you can make a board...do it.

If not...buy one...even at $200...it's worth it.

Trust me...you'll play this with your family, every gettogether and have tournaments.

You'll play it with friends...it's awesome for house parties...just drink and play.

Every age and demographic will love this game.

Recently been playing...

Lords of Waterdeep (worker placement)

Eldritch Horror (horror co-op)

Viticulture (worker placement)

Coup (role/bluffing)

Camel Up (betting)

Love Letter (role/bluffing)

Love Letter always works, no matter the group. Nice light, easy, quick game.

Coup I'm a little unsure of. May need to play it more.

Big fan of Lords of Waterdeep, but Viticulture scratches a similar itch and is a bit more advanced, especially with the Tuscany expansion.

Camel Up is fun and almost completely random.

Eldritch Horror takes about 2+ hours and that's at the upper limit of what I (my group) can handle.

Got in on the latest Keyflower kickstarter. Watched a bunch of videos on that game and it looks very interesting.

Haven't played Dead of Winter yet. Hard to believe it would work well with 2 though.

Same with Catan. Played that a bunch but have never tried it with 2.

Games that can be played with 2 players I like...

Jaipur

Dominion

Citadels

Viticulture

Legendary Marvel

Race for the Galaxy

eta: just clarify that all of these except Jaipur can be played with more than two, but also work well with only two.

Machi Koro is a Catan-like alternative for two imo. Just no trading, which there's no reason to trade in a 2-player Catan setup ever.

Camel Up isn't completely random. Plenty of things to take advantage of the situation each round.
Sure. I guess that's partially my fault as I like to try to keep that game as random as possible. Mostly by using the +1/-1 tile. A couple of well timed/placed tiles can change the order up significantly.

I have a copy of GOA coming any day. Played it with my local group recently and loved it.

My family (9 YO boy, 11 YO girl) enjoys Ticket to Ride and Carcassonne. The wife and I like Pandemic, but the kids don't care for it. We plan to acquire 7 Wonders and Dominion in the near future. I'd also recommend Bang! as a fun party game with many available expansions.

Good thread!

Ticket to Ride has been mentioned, but check out the variants as well. My favorite is TtR Europe.
Yeah. As I may have said above we have only played the U.S. map game (which has a couple of variants to it as well; we play the most "complex" version), but we have TTR Europe and want to give it a shot, but just haven't yet. There's also an Asia variant that looks fascinating, mostly because I've never been anywhere near any of the destinations in real life.

To echo what lardonastick said, good thread.

I dont feel like reading through the thread

Family is off for the summer, Kids are 5 (boy) and 8 (girl)

Anything you guys can think of that we might enjoy all playing together

7 Wonders is terrific in groups of 4 or 5 or more, especially with a couple of expansions thrown in. Not so good with only 2 or 3.

Dominion is good, not great, but the card stock is dissapointing for that kind of investment.

Most of the games mentioned might be a bit heavy for a 5 year old.

At 8, King of Tokyo would be a great choice and one that you could help the 5 yo with.

Exactly my thought. My 6yo loves KoT. Fun cards and you can explain if necessary and let the kids decide.

Arkwright

Three Kingdoms Redux

18xx family

Indonesia

Shocked no one else plays meatier games here. :(
I would love to, but the playing partners are hard to find.
:kicksrock: My girlfriend and I basically like the exact opposite type of games. We meet in the middle with Cataan, anything more its tough. And she wonders why I agonize over buying a game and spend hours researching them to try and find things that might work.

So... who's up for a game of life or monopoly. :sadbanana:

best games ever:

Squad Leader

Armour/Panzer/88 combo

Rise and Decline of the Third Reich

Gamarauders

wabbit wampage/wabbit's wevenge

honorary mention to Samaurai/axis and allies/buck rogers

Just picked up Galaxy Truckers and my kids and I love it so far, even if they do hate large meteors now more than before.

I am convinced out of every game I have I(my group) are playing Kings of Tokyo wrong. It always boils down to everyone not wanting to go in the ring except me which makes it so I win big or fizzle early. It might just be the people I have played with, since two out of the five get butt hurt very easy and even in coop games don't like to help the team. I need better board game friends.

I find it interesting that the comment I read was true in that people either play games for mental stimulation or for mental relaxation. There may be some cross-over, but it seems that the majority here prefer the latter...which surprises me.

Finally got around to playing Ticket To Ride with the kids. While my 7yo didn't really stick with it, my 11yo and I loved it. We played an epic two-player game. While I can see you really need 4 to 5 players, it was a fun experience.

Adding that to the current rotation of Munchkin and Bang! Was at the comic shop last night looking for a new one to buy for the upcoming holidays with both of my brothers and their families coming in.

Roll for the galaxy arriving today. Similar to race for the galaxy but with 111 custom dice. One thing I know is always a hit for my gf and friends is rolling dice, so this should be a slam dunk fun time.

For me it falls into what mood I'm in and more so, who am I playing with. Can't force either one on someone that doesn't want to.

Ticket To Ride will be arriving in the house on Friday. 8 year old daughter and 10 year old son, along with wife, will make this weekend very fun!

Once you get bored with Ticket to Ride...there's another version out there that adds another level to it. Think it's called Ticket to Ride Marklin.

Very cool version.

Wife and I played the card game version of Ticket to Ride. Once we got around a couple of mind-bending rule changes, we enjoyed it. No board or trains needed - you can play anywhere.

TtR is available on Steam and all the expansions are as well. I've played that solo hundreds of times.

Splendor is available on the Android, but I haven't tried it yet.

Love me some Lords of Waterdeep but get my head handed to me every time I play.

What FBG's have delved into either Star Wars X-Wing or Star Wars Armada? Thoughts on them? Preference to one over the other for accessibility or other?

Target had (has?) a good boardgame sale and had a 25% coupon on top of it. Grabbed Small World and Ghost Stories for forty bucks for Christmas. Small World looks great.

Where this coupon?

I have a good amount of the Star Wars x wing miniatures and it is very fun and cool. The pieces are good quality for the price point compared to other minis. Although you do need need to have one other person who wants to play. It is addicting to pleat them all FYI.

Anyone ever play Axis and Allies? I have always been very curious about that game.

I love Risk. I also have the much sought after Lord of the Rings Trilogy edition of Risk. Great game.

I see it looks very daunting, in-depth and a real time sink if your committed to it.
