I think what the '05 Bears did in spite of these pass-happy rules is as impressive, if not more impressive, than what the '85-86 Bears did.

Had they played their starters, they'd likely have stayed at 168 allowed and it wouldn't even be a debate. Instead, that 34 point backup shalacking mitigates comparisons for many.
The rules were equally pass happy back then, which is a big part of why Marino got 48 in the first place. They put the same "emphasis" on the rule in either 83 or 84.They did it again in the mid 90's and you had some ridiculous numbers for a few seasons there. Favre was putting up his ridiculous numbers, Rice had the best numbers of his career - even Isaac Bruce caught 1700 and something yards.

This is a fair answer. I remember when I thought of making the poll I wanted to write "Best team since the start of the 16 game season" but I suppose by the time I was done, "Best of all time" was easier to write. No disrespect intended towards the 1920 Decatur Staleys, 1922 Chicago Bears, or 1934 or 1964 Chicago Bears. That Halas guy knew a thing or two about coaching.

After seeing all three D's i would have to say that the '85 D was the best for many reasons. Not only did the 85/86 Bears not get run over (PIT) or passed over (CAR), but they did impose fear on people. If you were there, you remember. They made teams cower.
