Anyone catch the two-part HBO documentary on Sinatra: "All Or Nothing At All"?
Very well done. Very thorough. When I heard his children were behind the project I assumed it was going to be entirely deifying, only focusing on his music and his public persona. But it wasn't at all. In fact, I think they spent more time dealing with the lows of his life than the highs (Frank in the mid-60's wearing a Nehru jacket trying to sing with the 5th Dimension was a definite low).
I finally got the joke from SNL's "Sinatra Group" regarding Mitch Miller. That guy bludgeoned Sinatra's career. Conversely, Nelson Riddle got a lot of credit for the work. Long overdue.
Him and Ava Gardner, whoa. That relationship had murder/suicide written all over it.
