Need some help from the FFA. Have AT&T for home internet but need a better option. Its very slow and very expensive.

stand alone and no bundles

needs wifi ability

Looking for some better options, got any suggestions?

Everything has "wifi ability" with the addition of a wireless router (either provided by you or the ISP)

I thought so but wasnt sure.

I had ATT DSL. IT sucks. Very poor value of $/Speed... and was unreliable at best.

I've since swapped to Comcast Xfinity Cable Internet. MUCH Faster. Fair price. Service has been more reliable. Overall I'm very happy with the transition. I have this independent (unbundled) since I use DirecTV for my Television service.

i can second comcast for So Cal - about 50 per month for only the internet. Blazing fast, probably way more than i need.

FiOS beats cable all day long. Better technology, more stable, less apt to be throttled. I've had Covad, RCN, and TWC here in NYC before our building got fiber.

If you are like the majority of the United States, and you do not like your provider, then the only choice is the other one.

Another vote for FiOS. Recently upgraded to Quantum. I have ~85 mbs/download and ~40 mbs/upload for internet speed. The Quantum include gigabit Ethernet which is 10x the regular (100 mbs) speed.

Currently on Verizon Internet only because it was already installed when I moved into my place. Had Bright House/Roadrunner for about 8 years before that and loved it, never had a problem.

I hate Verizon, but their internet product isn't bad. But they suck in general.

I had Brighthouse for7 years and hated them. Their laggy Scientific Atlantic cable box, I hate how they put the HD in the 1000s requiring me to type an extra numberin the remote. You were more likely to have the box not catch a number and you hit the wrong channel. The Scientific Atlantic boxes are like a decade old, but they kept adding new fearltures like the slow & laggy search that I never used. Adding all that other crap into their old box made it suck 10x worse. They do have new boxes, but they only give those to new customers or multiroom & top bundle (home phone) customers. I did however like Bay News 9. I used to play FPS games quite a bit back then, before I got married and had a kid, so things like internet speed were really important to me. The download was great with lightning but the upload & ping sucked. Those are the important things when gaming. Brighthouse also does crappy deals with communities & condos to cement their status amongst residents. I couldn't get Verizon when I was in a condo. They go to many homeowners associations and get everyone free basic cable for free, but they are really paying through their dues.

Verizon has better boxes, remotes, a much more responsive system, the guide is better. They have a centralized location for on demand, unlike BHN having them all over. My in-laws had no idea they had a Smithsonian on demand I showed them last weekend.

BHN customer service was horrible. Everything from the technicians ( who cut my entire cable once thinking it belonged to another unit), to the idiots on the phone. I am sure Verizon sucks too, but I haven't had to talk to them much.

So really, the only benefit I see of BHN over Verizon is Bay News 9.

Quez..I can't speak for BHN cable, I ditched them 15 years ago for DirecTv...I mentioned BHN because that's who I got my roadrunner internet through...but yeah I hear people complain about their cable TV service all the time. I'm not a gamer so RR was great for me.

If I had to choose between BHN and FIOS for cable here in TB, I'd go FIOS all day even though I hate Vzn.

Thanks for the input. I have att uverse but went back to Directv for my tv services. No home phone, just internet access. Paying $50/mo for their lowest speeds is just crazy.

The best home Internet is one your company pays for.

I did at one time have DSL and I think I could only get 2 Mbps on that. Horrible. Charter is the other option in my area (no FIOS available), and I'm currently at 30 Mbps which is great for us.
