My favorite player growing up was Orioles CF Paul Blair. His nickname was "Motor Mouth" because he never stopped talking to anyone. I was at a game a few years ago where they had some former Os signing stuff out on Eutaw St before the game. Most of the players were of fairly recent vintage, except for Blair. There wasn't anyone in line to see him, so I went up on an impulse. Told him he was my favorite. He signed a picture for me while chattering the whole time and, for all I know, is still talking to me to this day.
By the way, he was one of those guys like Tony C whose career got seriously derailed by a pitch hitting him in the head. Blair came back and was a good player after getting beaned, but wasn't the same as before. I think it was Ken Brett (George's brother) who hit him.
He also was as good a CF defensively as I've ever seen. He'd play so shallow, but could run damned near anything down and had the arm to throw someone out from the wall.
