Best rock album of the past 20 years? (1 Viewer)

That 20 year cutoff eliminates a lot of early 90s albums I'd put above anything since.

I'd probably have to go with Tool - Aenima if forced to pick one.

What's the Story Morning Glory

Grace

Separation Sunday

All make haven't been mentioned but make my final cut

Foo Fighters - The Colour and The Shape

Kings of Leon - Youth and Young Manhood (Aha Shake Heartbreak just every so slightly behind this one)

The Killers - Sam's Town

Buckcherry - Buckcherry

You sound like an old fuddy duddy if you're excluding alternative ROCK from this discussion about ROCK albums. Sorry.

No doubt and thats because there is so little "rock" out there. When I was in my 20's R.E.M. would not be considered rock but today it would be.
How about Elvis, was he rock? The Beatles?
Much different era and far less splintered than music is now. It's like in 89 when Metallica lost a grammy to Jethro Tull in the best hardrock/metal category. Are they both "hard rock"? They tell me they are but I hear a big difference.

No. Which is why that is considered one of the biggest blunders in the history of award shows.

It was Crest of a Knave (released in '87) awarded in '88. Makes more sense.

As a better Tull album, not more sense as in beating Metallica.

Man, this is hard when you have a 20 year period. So many albums to ponder.

Yankee Foxtrot Hotel - Wilco

OK Computer - Radiohead

And Then Nothing Turned Itself Inside-Out - Yo La Tengo

Funeral - Arcade Fire

Elephant - White Stripes

Dear Science - TV on the Radio

Z - My Morning Jacket

Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots - The Flaming Lips

This is an excellent list.

My nominees would have to be . . .

The Strokes - Is This It (Original UK Edition)

Radiohead - The Bends

The Flaming Lips - The Soft Bulletin

The Afghan Whigs - Black Love

Wilco - Summerteeth

Tom Petty - Wildflowers

Oasis - Definitely Maybe

The Libertines - Up The Bracket

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

Kings of Leon - Aha Shake Heartbreak

The Twilight Singers - Powder Burns

The Exploding Hearts - Guitar Romantic

It has to be Lost in The Dream by The War On Drugs, right? Has been on repeat for me for several months now.

Not gonna lie...this is the first I've ever heard of these guys (guess I'm getting old)...I dig the sound, but after only a few listens, I'd be lying if the entire album didn't sound like the exact same song to me. Not trying to be "one of those guys", just my initial impression. I'll keep listening though.

Good thread
