Are we not including Life of Brian or Holy Grail as spoofs? I'd put those two up there with any listed.
They aren't spoofs. There's no genre of movies here to play with.
Life of Brian is a spoof of those old Cecil B. Demille and other bible movies and Holy Grail is a spoof of Camelot and other Arthurian movies, no?
I cannot say with certainty how or why I chose the 'standards' with which I formed the definition of 'spoof' in my head, but here we are...

Exactly. I figured more people would be against including Holy Grail since most probably don't associate Arthur legend with movies, but Life of Brian is clearly a spoof of not only a genre but includes specific movies as well.
Things like, "I'm Brian!"

Always look on the bright side of life!

A suggestion - replace the mediocre Spaceballs Mars Attacks or Yellowbeard with Blazing Saddles.
Fixed
Spaceballs is great.
After watching Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, I thought that Spaceballs was a huge miss and couldn't believe that the same director made it. Sure it had a few laughs but with nearly unlimited potential, it was surprisingly mediocre. May The Schwarz Be With You might be one of the worst lines ever.

Is that a whipped cream sundae? Oh, it's a banana split!

It is all making sense now. Shaun of the Dead is not funny, but Not Another Teen Movie gets the laughs from you. ;)
Scary Movie is better than Shaun too
Weird coming from me, but you need to lay off the reefer, gb. ;)

I always felt the same way. Maybe video game folks will get this reference but (to me) Blazing Saddles + Young Frankenstein felt like Pac Man at the arcade and Spaceballs felt like Pac Man on the Atari 2600. That's how I've always felt about Spaceballs. Late to the party, missed the mark and it felt like it was trying so hard to be funny but just didn't do it for me.

I like the analogy actually. But even on Atari Pac Man was still fun.

Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein are all time greats for sure. Most of Mel Brooks' early stuff is, He and the Zucker Bros nailed the spoof movie genre. Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men In Tights are definitely not on that level but are still very enjoyable. I mean we are talking Hall of Fame vs Hall of Very Good here.

(and I am hoping Spaceballs 2 is good, but have low expectations)

Anyone here remember the underrated "UHF!"? Weird Al's foray into movies. So much fun, albeit not in the same tier as some of Brooks and the Zucker Bros work. Still a great watch. And a thanks to the movie for Michael Richards.
Enjoyed UHF although it's been a long time since I've seen it. I thought "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story" that came out a few years ago was hilarious and it was a good spoof of biopic's. Not quite to the level of many of the great spoof films mentioned in this thread, but considering the era we are in where it's almost impossible to make a good comedy movie I thought it was great.

Not Another Teen Movie is awful. But I expect nothing less (more) from Dan Lamb.
It's the American cheese of spoof flicks.

Maybe just stick to movies about punching horses and fart jokes

Funny you trying to call out low-brow humor when you love low-brow humor.

And it's pretty misplaced. Not a single horse punched or fart joke in Galaxy Quest.
And I don't enjoy most of Blazing Saddles, especially the campfire scene.

Sorry mixed you up with all of the Blazing Saddles glazers

Never seen Galaxy Quest so can’t comment on that one

I tend to agree although it has grown in me over the years. In the end better to make this sequel than a Blazing Saddles or Young Frankenstein sequel, which would tarnish the legacy of those classics.

Spinal Tap is the greatest spoof movie of all time.

On this list I went with Airplane with a shout out to Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles.
