...... diet?  Or resist with everything I have?

I started a 6-week "Biggest Loser" style weight loss challenge at work.  Minus the overly-dramatic "weigh-ins", Bob Harper/Jillian Michaels and that one blonde host chick.

I've cut out beer/soda and plan on only doing 1 "typical" fast food meal every week.  I've been doing "protein bowls" and salads at lunch instead, with healthy dinners as well.

Decided that Friday should be said "cheat day", and having difficulty choosing what gluttonous feast I should go for tomorrow.

Jack-in-the-Box is my favorite burger right now, although it's been awhile since I've had Wendy's and their burgers tend to be the best out of all the fast food options.  Or there is this gut-buster that I've had a few times.

My first thought is a couple of chili dogs at Weinerschnitzel.  Maybe a chili dog (chili on the side of course), corn dog, fries and water.

Or I could do my very best to stave this desire off.

Shtick encouraged, but appreciate solid input too!

P.S. As for drinking booze, I'll be trying out vodka-sodas with lemon on Saturday.

That's tough. I believe in emotional inertia and how quickly self-restraint crumbles if you don't sort of adhere to something strictly.

Jack in the Box is an interesting place.  A cornucopia of fast food ####.  My recommendation is to not look at this as a scheduled thing.  Think of it as how much you’ve progressed.  Every once in a while reward yourself, but don’t undo all the hard work you’ve done either.  :porked:

What does the winner get?

(aside from better health/physique)
We all chipped in $25, winner-take-all.  6 folks, so $150.  Would pay for my flight to Vegas in March (which, by the way, is right when this challenge ends).

you haVE a multitude of 'cheat' items.  suck it up buttercup.  ditch fast food forever.  that #### is worst.

What are you doing during the diet - low carb?  If so, go with burger place and just ditch the buns and you won’t reset while you “cheat”.  If you are just doing CICO then eat whatever the hell you want - it won’t really matter.

Honestly, I'm pretty lucky.  If I cut out beer and don't eat fast food 5 times a week, I'll lose weight.  I'm also working out 2-3 times a week.  I suppose it would be "low carb" since there's no soda and limited bread intake.

I stand about 6'ish and first weigh-in was 238.  I "carry" my weight pretty well.... broad shoulders and all.  Folks guess I'm in the 200-210 range usually, which is where I'd like to get.

We'll see what happens.  Del Taco salad on the menu today.

Holy hell - have you looked at the sodium in those salads? Yikes. Which one you getting?
:oldunsure:   Holy crappo I might need to rethink.  Was getting the one with bacon, of course.

I think I'll do Subway chopped salad instead.  Yowzers.

Isn't tequila the preferred hard liquor for dieting because it's low in sugar and calories, and doesn't have any carbs?

Salads are great, but like most 'healthy' take-out they are usually traps.  You're probably doing more cheating than you think you are, so I recommend self control.  Win the contest then hopefully your taste buds will have enough time to change, so more temptations get phased out of your wants.

I used to joke with my wife when she would ask me what I had for lunch:

"I got a salad from the grocery store. The only problem was it was about 1200 calories."

With a few tweaks, you can get a burger, and it won’t take you very far off-track, imo. You already said you’d have water instead of soda, so that’s a great start. You can do stuff like nix the cheese, get mustard instead of ketchup/mayo, whole grain buns instead of regular buns, swap the fries for a less starchy/fatty side.  Healthier than a full cheat, and you still get your tasty burger.

The weight loss is simple math.......calories in vs calories out.  Eliminating Soda/Beer is a great start of getting rid of empty calories.  It doesn't matter what you eat but have strict portion control to cut down calories.....Working out 2-3 times a week will help on the calories out side  of things.  Remember it takes a calorie deficit of 3500 a week to lose 1 lb.  Good Luck.

I don't drink a ton of beer but do drink 3-4 sodas a week.

Munched down a Subway salad today.  Wasn't bad.

I'll check back in here tomorrow to see how much I've lost in the 1st week.  I am guessing 7-8 pounds.

Much of that could be water weight and really affected by the time you are actually weighing yourself.  You shouldn't be losing more than 2-3 lbs a week if you are doing it properly.

I found that my local grocery store makes single serve salads that are about 200 calories.  I did that for lunch when I was in a weight loss competition and tried to limit my overall calorie intake to about 1000-1200 a day.  I was able to consistently lose 2-3 lbs a week for an extended period of time.

Worked really good and I lost about 50 lbs in about 4-5 months.  I kept it off and continued working out for a couple years....then I tore my Achilles and my workout schedule went to crap and I got lazy again.  Put it back on and haven't had the motivation to go back to the calorie deficit/working out.

I got in a bad car accident in 2004 that threw my workout schedule into the crapper.  Then I tore my Achilles which made things even worse.  It's been a struggle to get back into it for 15 years now.

I will tell you the same thing I would tell any man.

If you’re going to cheat, it should be for such tremendous quality that you would be willing to lose all the time and effort you’ve put in so far.  It should be for the most beautiful, succulent, sweet-tasting perfection you’ve ever seen or let slip across your tongue.  It should be something you would tell your friends “yeah, it cost me.  But it’s hard to say I really regret it” if it costs you dearly. It should, in short, be better than just a jack in the box.

If you're doing a six-week challenge, try this: do strict keto all day, then at dinnertime, set a timer for an hour. During that one hour, you can eat whatever you want, in whatever quantities you want. Outside of that hour, no carbs.

I did that diet like 20 years ago, and surprisingly it worked. I have no idea how or why that one hour window works, but it does. I would eat garlic bread and pasta and ice cream and crap and still lost weight like I was doing keto.

or, just gut it out and go hard after it with no cheats, you big manbaby ;)
