Best way to sell a car? (1 Viewer)

This is good schtick. I'm going to go into Carmax and make offers like $15 under the asking price.
Oh god please do and report back ASAP. If there was one closer to me I would do the same.

Carmax sucks from what I have seen. Every time I search for a car it is WAYYYY overpriced. And the money they pay is way underpriced. The only difference between carmax and a regular dealership is that you have no chance of getting a better deal. That's it. No haggle usually means "pay a little more".

If you absolutely hate any negotiation at all and don't care about forgoing a few grand, then sure, carmax is for you. I don't like it either, but I can't bring myself to lose out TWICE when selling and then buying a car.

So we are advocating for this:

FB jimbo takes his car to carmax and sells it to them for 8 grand.

Carmax cleans it up and makes it look all pretty (something that might cost 200 bucks max if you take it somewhere)

FB billybob comes and buys the same exact car a week later for 13 grand.

Really???

Geeze, maybe we should just sell cars to each other on here. If any of you that live anywhere near cleveland are about to sell a car to carmax, PM me, and I will pay you more then just go sell the damn thing myself for 3-4 grand more.

Dealer just gave me $500 in trade for a used Volvo.

Of course it had 270k miles, a smashed door with a non-working window, burn a quart of oil and need coolant every tank of gas, and needed freon. Also when you drove it the was a strong chemical odor in the cabin which smelled like burnt coolant/oil and would need a running starter to get up a decent hill.

Maybe I left a couple of bills on the table.

Actually the buying experience was pleasant. The list price was below market value based on the research I did. Did the dance and asked the sales guy if he could get me a couple of hundred more off. He said he would do his best for me. I snickered to myself. Well he came back $459 lower and threw in a new set of tires on a car with 19K and good tires.

I've been fortunate. My last new vehicle (a 4x4 truck during the gas crisis) the guy came off sticker from $36k to $21k.

With the rise of internet marketing, these guys are starting off with pretty decent prices for the most part. Heck, their competition the next state over will negotiate over the phone and deliver to your door.
