Big Ben has "small tear" in rotator cuff of throwing arm (1 Viewer)

Right...so I know this guy is tough and all...but a small tear to the rotator cuff in his throwing arm before the preseason even begins sounds like a big deal to me.

Based in the risk of Ben tearing it completely with a throw or a big hit during the season I think it might be wise to not only downgrade him due to injury risk but to also downgrade all Pitt wrs, who might be catching passes from the backup for a good part of the season if that tear gets larger.

Any experts on rotator cuffs in the room? Can a qb safely go through the rigors of an entire preseason and season with a small tear in his rotator cuff? Even if he does couldn't the pain and soreness affect his throwing motion/accuracy?

Here is the news:

PIT - Ben Roethlisberger has small tear in rotator cuff - Wed Aug 1, 03:47 PM

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder) said he has a small tear in his rotator cuff but said his arm feels strong and it should not affects any of the throws he makes. 'I'm good. It's OK, just sore,' Roethlisberger said. 'I have a little torn rotator cuff. That doesn't heal. We just have to hope it doesn't tear the rest of the way, according to Doc.' He said he has been throwing less during camp which has helped his arm feel better.

I should be more concerned about this, but there always seems to be some issue with Big Ben yet he comes through anyway. In fact, he's usually stronger when you expect him to suck.

A slightly torn rotator cuff that could finish tearing at any time, and won't heal on its own even if he's lucky, is a little different.

Remember when he had those broke toes before the super bowl and when Cowher was asked about it Cowher had no idea what the media was talking about. I'm hoping it's kinda like that. Maybe Ben gave himself another injury diagnosis without actually talking to the team doc.

just read this tweet

"For a guy who has a slightly torn rotator cuff, he Sure is taking a lot of reps AFTER practice."

Before anyone panics, just remember:Jason Smith‏ @howaboutafresca

What a surprise: Ben Roethlisberger says he has torn rotator cuff. He's the only QB who LOVES telling you he's hurt so you think he's tough.

He's a drama queen, if this were coming from anyone else I'd be more concerned.
