Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

My dislike of Turgeon hit a new level tonight.  Absolutely brutal defense on that last play.  Why no one guarding the inbounder?  Cowan wandering around in the backcourt, not even facing the ball.  How is that useful?

The offense is so frustrating to watch.  I can't even figure out what the offense is, unless it's "dribble and do the weave for 22 seconds, then jack up a contested three".

There was a stretch in the second half where Michigan had about seven possessions in a row with a wide open three point shot.  Honestly, I have no idea how the game was within 15 points, the way Maryland played.

Although I know his contract won't let it happen, I am officially on the "Turgeon needs to go" bandwagon.

In my crusade against replay, I just want to point out that the refs decided to do a completely unnecessary replay at the end of the Michigan game.  They not only tried to ice a free throw shooter, they also gave Maryland a chance to draw up a play even though they had no timeouts left.  From the replay, they changed the clock from 0.9 to 1.2 seconds.  That time difference is meaningless compared to the huge impact they had by just going to the monitor in the first place.

Thank goodness Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman was shooting. Cool as a cucumber.

I’m trying to stay in the moment and enjoy the Purdue season one game at a time...but I can’t keep my mind from drifting to the question of how are they gonna disappoint at some point in the NCAA tournament.

Good win by the Terps, I guess.  Beating Minnesota at home isn't that much to get excited about, but I like the way Huerter, Cekovski, Tomaic, Cowan, and Morsell played together.  Something looks off with Bruno Fernando lately, not sure what.

The offense did go stagnant a couple of times, but that seems to be a Turgeon trademark and it probably won't stop happening anytime soon.

Looking over the remaining schedule, Terps have Michigan St. and Michigan at home, and Purdue on the road, but not Ohio St.  With their best OOC win against Butler, they may need to win one of those three to get in to the tourney.

I don't think so.  Too many seniors, too much balance inside and out and on both ends of the court.  They won by almost 30 against wisco and Hass and Mathias only combined for 4 points.   We'll see..

I'm afraid that game they gacked away in Ann Arbor is going to cost them a bid - as you say, their resume is empty right now. Playing the heart of the B1G schedule with 8 scholarship players isn't an optimal road to the post-season.

I'm glad Cek is having this late-career run of playing well. He's been snakebit his entire time at MD.

Terps are awful.  Turgeon is awful.  His contract is worse.
Do you think he is gone after this year?

I will say, the importance and stage of their matchups has varied year in and year out, but Indiana and Maryland has been consistently fun to watch since Maryland joined the conference.

Unfortunately, Maryland can't afford to fire Turgeon.  He has at least five years left on his contract.

Good game.  It's always tough to compare teams from different conferences when they don't play outside for months but Purdue doesn't have any obvious weaknesses

The first 10 minutes of the second half is some of the best offensive basketball I've seen.  Purdue was able to match Michigan's onslaught of offense and had counter punches for everything.

Fun times right now for the Boilers.

How does Bates-Diop not get the call on that 3?

Horribly officiated game. Carr was amazing tonight.
Probably because it looked like he kicked his leg out to draw any kind of contact for 3 free throws.

Saw the end of the 1st H and most of the 2nd.  Felt like one of those games that's tough to win.  OSU wasn't playing that well and PSU was playing pretty ok.  KBD's 4th foul with 14:41 left was about as bad of a call as you can get.  Cheap call on a dribble drive (maybe 2 dribbles that probably barely got past the foul line), not even a shooting foul.  It was actually pretty good defense IMO.

Good effort by the Hoosiers today.  Caught Purdue on an off day. Probably their worst performance so far in the big ten.

Seeing how Ohio St. has played this year, it almost makes me think that coaching actually matters in this game.

Can't wait until 2022 and the Terps can afford to get rid of Turgeon and his "wait until 10 seconds on the shot clock then try something" offense.

That, and KBD is healthy and putting it all together after some past injuries.
