Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

I have a bad feeling about the game this evening. Maryland BETTER shoot well from the start, or Purdue's gonna smoke 'em. Last game, the Terps were fortunate that the Boilermakers kind of slept through most of the game until MD started making shots and could set up their press.

Purdue 76, Maryland 63
Lets go Terps

Maryland totally out playing Purdue. Everything they throw up towards the rim goes in. Boilers can’t make any lineup combination work. 😡

Man that Gillis TF really turned the tide for the Terps. Wow
Helluva run in the 2nd half for MD. Nice win, congrats.

In the 2nd half, they shot lights out. 1st half they couldn't make anything. Luckily for the Terps, Purdue couldn't score either.

Maryland's defense is really good (UCLA & Michigan games notwithstanding) and will usually keep them in games. I thought they did a great job on Edey. Julian Reese outrebounded him, got him in some foul trouble, and kept him from getting a ton of cleanup points.

Once MD got hot in the 2nd, they could set their press. Then things just snowballed on the Boilermakers.

I still think Purdue can be a FF team, but they have weaknesses. Good thing is, there's no dominant team in CBB this year.

MD has @Nebraska, Minn, NW, @OSU (what the hell has happened to them?), @PSU left. If the Terps can win 3 of those, they will have 12 conference wins. I'm guessing that will put them on the 6 or 7 line for the NCAAs regardless of how they do in the B1GT. They have no bad losses (in that they lost to good teams - UCLA & Michigan each smoked them by a million, though they beat UM in the rematch) and some nice wins. They've lost 2 games in the last month: by 3 at Purdue and by 5 at MSU.

Tough game. That T on Hawkins in the first half was BS. He was just screaming in excitement, didn't stand and yell in the guys face. How many times does someone hit a 3 and look at the defender, should those all be Ts as well? No idea how we managed to miss like 10 point blank shots in the first half and still have the lead. Melendez needs to go to a sports shrink or something, he in his own head at this point.

Well MI stinks and they are going to miss the tournament this year.

But at least they beat Sparty. That's always fun.

Too many missed shots, poor shots lapses on defense. Didn’t figure State would do as well as they did. Tough to win on the road in this emotional setting.

GOGREEN SPARTAN STRONG

Just dumb luck that I was up there for the game. It was class all around and really well done by the admin and the students. Win was icing on the cake

Much needed (for many reasons) home win by the Spartans last night. Hope the momentum continues the rest of the remaining season.

Really need to start getting Jaxson more minutes and Mady fewer. Jaxson's lapses are becoming less frequent and Mady is an offensive liability and can't stay out of foul trouble most nights.

Huge win though... fun to watch when they play well.

I tend to agree. Although that absolutely rude, monster block Mady had was awesome. He does bring a little something on defense.

I really like Jaxson's potential though. That dipsey-doodle fake move under the bucket for the easy layup was nice. Sky's the limit for this kid.

The Indiana team sporting the SPARTAN STRONG gear was much appreciated. (y)

Must win for the Hawks tonight in Madison if they want any chance at a double-bye in the tournament. My guess is they'll lay an egg as they tend to do almost every game away from Carver.

Illinois is so down that Northwestern, Rutgers and Penn State are big games. We have been down for the last two coaches regimes admittedly but still hoping Underwood rights the ship and we get hot at right time. Beating a hot Northwestern team tommorrow is a good start.

Uh, NW is a solid team. Rutgers is too, to a lesser extent. Nothing to be ashamed of there. Penn State, not so much.

Penn State is no walk in the park to play against.

If you play at Penn State, you are right. On the road they aren't so good.

Maryland's the same way: 15-1 at home and like 5-7 on the road.

Ahhhh, B1G basketball...

Rutgers shows up with their JV squad tonight. Brutal

Rutgers goes to 1-5 since Mag tore his ACL. Mag was the best defensive player in the conference who gave them 10 points and versatility. Rutgers isn’t a viable tournament team without him.

I-L-L

Illini come back from the dead down 18 at half and 16 with 11 to play. Shannon and Mayer are so streaky but when they're on they're nearly unstoppable offensively. I don't see an NBA level player in Hawkins at all right now but he did a tremendous job moving his feet on the perimeter on Buie's final drive.

Good for Illini. Their students were very classy with the Spartan strong t-shirts. Didn’t have to do that but they did. (y)

Good grief
Absolute choke job on the road. This team just cannot close out games.

Not sure what happened but you’d think the team was prepared for Iowa to start hitting threes. They weren’t. Great comeback by the Hawkeyes.

Iowa scored 23 points in the last 90 seconds of regulation. 😯
I don’t think they missed an attempted 3 the entire last minute and a half. That barrage was bound to happen because Iowa shoots the 3 like nobody’s business. State even defended them and they still hit.

Just wish they would have fouled them on the in bounds or before they launched those shots. Guess Izzo was playing the percentages that they’d miss at some point.

Big Ten Tournament should be fun. You have Purdue at the top, MN at the bottom, and then a big, jumbled mess in the middle. Seems like any of those teams could beat another on any night.
