Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

I really like this Indiana team. I think they have a great shot as a F4 team.
They do, but they have very little depth. Guys are gonna have to play a ton of minutes. But they have their Danny Manning in Trace.

Off-subject, if you guys are looking for a sleeper in your pools for the NCAAs I could think of worse teams to pick than VCU. They are are long, mean, and nasty.

Will be really interesting if Xavier Johnson is able to come back and re-integrate. Probably their best on-ball defender, but Hood-Schifino isn't giving up the starting PG role at this point.

Also, Trey Galloway plays like his (glorious  ) hair is on fire

Wasn't that Galloway that tried to slam dunk on Edey? Didn't quite work out, but that takes some major cojones to try.

I was listening to a podcast the other day where both of the hosts were sure OSU would pick off someone at home yet. They both thought it'd be Maryland. But Illinois is in big trouble of it happening today.

Xavier at this point is just depth and energy boost if he makes it back. Find a rotation that you can have him come in and play defense like a beast. Trey has also gotten good at running point with Xavier out.

Xavier is great at times but he gets way too spastic, plays way too fast a lot. Been really apparent comparing to how smooth JHS plays.

Yes, if that would have gone down...

The luxury Indiana has moving forward is they can easily insert or remove Xavier once he is ready depending on which version of him they are getting any given game/half. That wasn't really something they could do last year.

Yep. Xavier is like found money at this point and he needs to be good with that role. He seems like a great team guy so hopefully there is no drama.

Brutal loss by MI at home. Basically eliminates them from the NCAAs unless they win the Big Ten.

(Sure if they win both of their road games this week, but that's not happening. Obviously).

So didn’t see Iowa beating the hell out of IU at Assembly Hall coming.
Little bit of a hangover from the Purdue game, plus IU struggles with quick guards, plus they've had several games where they started out slow with little defensive intensity.

As Lappas pointed out, have to wonder why WI didn't foul at the end of regulation.
Gard is not a good coach.

Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk

I didn't have a problem with it at the time, despite the tv commentator harping on it. Up 3 with Hunter ####### taking a deep offbalance prayer to tie is a scenario I take every day. Davis made a crucial error taking himself out of the play rather than defending. The team this year is bad but for me Gard gets a long leash by being Big Ten champion 2 of the past 3 seasons. He's got some work to do this summer though for sure. Maybe he can work the portal to fill in the roster a bit.

Right now, MI is in sole possession of second place in the Big Ten. Which is pretty hard to imagine.

But if they lose at Illinois tonight, there will be a six way tie for second. Lol.

UM's problem is their Q1 record. They almost certainly need to win 1 if not both of these last two games to be considered for the tourney.

Right now Lunardi has them in the First Four Out column. Wisky is in the Last Four In column.

Losing to Central Michigan didn't help either.

Yea. I figure they need a win this week and then at least one in the tournament. But they will probably screw it up. And then Jett and Kobe will go to the NBA. And we will be starting over again next year. #sigh

I still really like their F4 chances
When they're playing well, they can beat just about anybody but IDK if they can go 4+ games without a stinker. Hope so, though.

They seemed to have righted the ship somewhat, but yea their early season situation didn't help them for sure. I think they have a good shot to make it if they take care of business. They're rolling pretty well right now. McDaniel has been outstanding.

Purdue is playing terrible. Another late season collapse. They won’t make it out of the first weekend of the NCAA Tournament 😡

Great game and a must win IMO for the Illini. Feel better about them being in now with 20 wins no matter what happens at Purdue or the Big Ten tourney. Melendez and Rodgers stepped up in Epps' absence.

BIG TEN CHAMPS...ALL ALONE!!

It wasn't pretty but so glad to see them pull this one out. They needed it no matter how ugly. Pretty amazing they won this came considering they turned it over more, Wisco made 10 3s and Purdue shot 60% from the line. At least they made 8 of their last 9.

The poor passing has to be something these guys are working on. Furst looks horrible now. They are telegraphing the passes down to Edey well of course because everyone knows where it's going. This team is going 1 or 2 and out in both the BT tourney and NCAA if Ethan Morton is the one taking shots down the stretch with the game on the line.

Well, NIT it is for Michigan.
I remember in 96 or 97, Michigan at Illinois, our group of 20 or so started a "NIT" chant during a run in the second half that got picked up by entire Assembly Hall crowd. Watching this game brought back those memories. I wish I could still sit in the front row seats I had in Grad School. From hard camera, I was the 4th person to the right of mid court. Feet were on the floor. Could hear the players talking to the refs during the game.... Now I watch it on DVR after getting my kids to sleep.
