Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

In UM defense, Rutgers defense was stifling. Scary even. Good blueprint for how to stop DICKinson. I assume he'll leave, but if he stays, teams should watch this game on how to defend him.
Dickinson dropped in 24 points on decent shooting and added 7 rebounds along with a couple assists and blocks. The key was that all the young talent around him played like crap. As a Michigan fan, I hope that encourages the kids to come back next year.

Penn State knocks off Illinois. Again.

Illinois can't be in and Penn State out IMO. Illinois should be in but if it's between them and Penn State......put the latter in no question.

They were both ''in'' going into the game with PSU being #2 of last 4 "in" ...but even as an Illinois fan I would have to agree with the premise...although I sat through way too many nut punches through the last two coaching staffs to hope it comes even close...but conference tournament upsets and ...the bubble expands.

Big 10 seems to be overrated again to me. Will be interesting to see if the committee puts in some of the scrubs.
I don't. There is an awful team, a good but not great one, and 14 of comparable quality, which is why this entire season has been a war. It wouldn't surprise me if nobody survives the sweet 16, but that's no different than a month or two ago.

Who's gonna be the one team to carry the banner of the conference after all the rest crap the bed in rounds one and two? We know that's how this is going to end :lmao:

I still think Purdue can do it, but I can also see them not getting out of the first weekend given how shaky they've looked recently. Indiana could do it, too, if TJD does his best Danny Manning impression.

Maryland plays good defense, but is not a good shooting team and I can't see them winning more than a game or two. Same with Rutgers (if they make it). Iowa's the exact opposite of those two. And Illinois is completely schizo.

God help me, it's probably going to be Izzo isn't it?

Depending on Indiana’s seed, I think they can go to the F4. I’ve liked that team all year. I think they have the best chance. Purdue after that if their wings don’t fold.

TBH, even though the entire league has been pretty battle tested all season, at this point, I can see the rest of the B1G teams in the tourney getting bounced the 1st weekend.

I think we tend to look at these kinds of things in a vacuum sometimes. Look around at other conferences. Who's dominant? Houston's really good and has been all year, but they certainly don't look invincible to me. I still think Kansas - while good - is a bit of a paper tiger. Bama's like Iowa (& Miami) on steroids - streaky as hell and also has a mess going on off the court. Both Arizona & UCLA are solid teams, but not frightening. Same with Gonzaga. Tennessee & UVA both look completely lost.

In fairness, didn't Tennessee just lose their point guard to injury? Although, they have looked bad on offense most of the year (and dominant on defense). I like UCLA's chances this year.

I think both NW and PSU will make it and I forgot to include them in my Official B1G Post above. They will each be a scary draw for whoever they line up against.

Correct, but they still have to play games without him and they are struggling badly.

All true. Kinda wondering if my alma mater (a prospective 14/15 seed) might draw Tennessee...

I forgot to mention Marquette, who I think may have the best shot of all to win it.
I think the Big East as a whole is underrated this year.
Me, too. I could see Creighton & Xavier making some noise.
Don't sleep on UCONN either. They have lost some games, but let's not forget they kicked the living hell out of everyone during the OOC portion of the schedule.
Thanks. Forgot about them.

I think, if I was in a draft and got the top 4 teams from any conference, I'd pick the BE as a group over the other conferences.

I know this is a B1G thread, but while we're talking out of conference... I really think Kent State has a nice Cinderella shot.

VCU, too. They are long and nasty. A 2nd-tier team from a major conference I like is Missouri.

Northwestern will be my #1 upset pick in the tournament. They will be overrated at like a 5 or 6 seed and are the #42 kenpom team with the 103rd ranked offense. Prime for a 6/11 upset.

Give me the Pac 12

I'm predicting UCONN to beat Marquette later today, but I'm biased (against Marquette).
That wouldn't surprise me, but I was talking about the NCAAT.

As a double Wisconsin grad living and working in Milwaukee, that would destroy me. I have several friends who are triple Marquette grads (Marquette High, MU undergrad and Marquette Law.) The pompous arrogance of the Marquette alumni in this town is off the charts, especially in the professional circles I'm sometimes forced to interact with. But there's no denying Shaka was a good hire.

There’s a lot of good observations and insight on this page. I think I’ll bookmark it for tournament pool picking reference.

I’m so glad the Boilers ended the first half with a 1 point lead after getting down double digits early. Gillis and Jenkins were key to bringing them back (I’ve been hoping all season Jenkins could be a big contributor in March and maybe even April).
I hope they pound it inside to Edey in the second half and make a statement.

OSU is giving the Flying Izzos fits.

I can't figure out that team. They were ranked when Maryland beat them early on, then went right in the toilet for 2 months, and recently have begun playing like they did early in the season.

I think MSU was probably a 7 seed in the NCAAT ( even though some brackets had them as a 6 which was way outta line IMO), this loss may have dropped them to an 8.

Interesting - from UMHoops, who does a good Big Ten pod with an Athletic writer -

Said this on the last
@movingscreenpod, but MSU's hot 3-point shooting was masking some ugly defensive numbers. Buckeyes scored 1.13 PPP today. Before today: 1.21, 1.02, 1.37, 1.00, 1.3 PPP allowed by MSU in last 5 games. MSU is 237th defensively on Torvik over last 3 weeks. MSU was a legitimately very good defensive team for most of the season but the trend there is ugly headed into the NCAA Tournament.

I’d agree that their defense has fallen off a bit, but today their problem was their horrendous shooting percentage.

MSUs last 4 games, they shot 75%, 73%, 56%, and 60% (against these same Buckeyes) from 3 pt line. Today, they shot 18%.

Not if he brings the version of the team that played OSU today

Man that 15-0 was the dagger for MD.

Still think the Hoosiers are the cream of the crop in the B1G. Really pulling for them.
I thought the dagger was Carey (89% free throw shooter) missing the front-end of a 1-1 after a turnover down 6, and Indiana grabbed the rebound and went down for an easy layup. Potential 4-point game with several minutes left to an 8-point game just like that. It felt deflating.

When Tamar Bates, Miller Kopp, or even Trey Galloway get hot from 3 the Hoosiers can definitely beat anyone. TJD gives them automatic buckets. They have some nice depth as well behind him. Don’t think many teams match them in the post.

JHS is becoming automatic as well (he’s going pro now I’m pretty sure, we are gonna be brutal next year) he is so smooth and not afraid of the moment.

I don’t see them putting it all together to get to Final Four but you never know. If they don’t get to Sweet 16 will be a pretty big let down which is the first time saying in a long time (which is crazy).
