Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (1 Viewer)

I tend to think if Iowa wins here, they're in. Not a lock, but the bubble is weak.
Probably right if they win. And amazingly, it'd be their 1st win over a ranked opponent all year. Even if their quality of wins are far from stellar, .500 in Big10 and semis in tournament should be enough. The .500 in Big 10 may even be enough. Their resume really is pretty underwhelming overall IMO.

They beat UW, I'd say that qualifies as a quality win

I agree.

Really nice effort by Iowa, MSU was off almost all night. A few points off Iowa turnovers help us get back into the game and may have been the difference. State really needs a LOT of work on the press in bounds setup. Abyssmal.

MSU - Iowa game looks like a tournament game. I think both teams are playing well.
I didn't think MSU played all that well outside of its second-half surge. Iowa played harder most of the way. Granted, it's hard to match a team's intensity when their tournament life is probably on the line and you're just playing for seeding. It was good to see MSU rally though. MSU-OSU has been a really good matchup both times so that will be a fun one.

Michigan down to at best a 3rd seed.
No way they are still ranked 6th, even though they are now 9-7 over their last 16.
I was pretty confident in having them in the Final 4 because I think Burke is that good, and the rest of the top teams are just as mediocre, but now I dont know. Big 10 I think is so much better this year than the rest of the country that 4 teams in the Elite 8 wouldnt surprise me (if IU, UM, MSU, and OSU could all get there without knocking another off).I missed the game today, but any reason why Morgan only played 8 minutes? Only had 2 fouls so that cant be why.
Seems like their other bigs have been playing very well. But Michigan has not had an above-average Big Ten tournament performance in about 15 years. I'm not convinced of a strong NCAA tournament run for our guys. They're not a dominant rebounding team, and if a team throws Burke off his game at all, they struggle. Free throw shooting has hurt them (I'm looking at you Robinson - you could have iced the Indiana game, and 0-4 yesterday represents 4 points that could have changed the nature of the game). My big hope is that Burke and Hardaway feel they have unfinished business and come back. What a team they could be next year! If Big Ten teams can force Burke into some bad shooting nights and turnovers, what'll happen to the 6-footer in the NBA? Come back, guys!

The refs cost Iowa that game. They honestly should be under investigation because they bet on the game. Horrible and it reminds me why I shouldn't get so wrapped up in basketball. NIT bound.

Man my Wolverines just fell flat yesterday. Start off fairly well, but just turned into turnover machines. We went from a chance to be a #1 seed to probably a #3 or #4 seed and falling. If we want to even have a prayer of making the Sweet 16 we better start putting some complete games together.

So disappointed in this UM team. They have had an antiMSU season. State always starts slow and finishes strong. Michigan just fell flat down the stretch. They have no mojo, guys are just not gelling, Burke pick and roll has become the entire offense at the expense of Hardaway, GR3, and Stauskas. The emotion and confidence is gone. I am very concerned about this tournament. Only hope is Michigan draws some teams that like to play up tempo and aren't as stout on defense as the Big 10 competition has been, they get their groove back and can carry that over into the Sweet 16 and beyond.

Northwestern fires Bill Carmody ..... rumor is that #1 on their list is Duke assistant Chris Collins ... a chicago native.

Good game going on with UW and IU. As a Wisconsin fan, I am torn on winning this game as I don't see them being bumped up even a spot with a win and then the wear and tear of playing another game.

Agreed...but always nice to beat IU and to keep the streak alive over them.

Sam Dekkar is going to be a star. I hope he hits the weight room in the offseason because with a little more muscle he'd be a beast.

####### Wisky, they just own IU. Their freakshow looking big men all drain 3's and then dominate the paint on D when they play the Hoosiers. 12 straight wins against the Hoosiers is just an amazing run.

Good luck in the tourney Badgers. Would like to see a good run in the tourney, stay out of IU's bracket!!

It always seems to me that Wisconsin either really overachieves and makes an E8 or F4 run when you dont expect it, or they underachieve when they should make a run (the Taylor and Leuer teams for example). Lunardi has them as a 4 seed now, if they best MSU/OSU tomorrow, I could see them bumping Florida, Cuse (especially if they lose tonight), or New Mexico from a 3 to a 4.

I wonder if they can eventually trade the streak in for an NCAA banner? ;)
 They have an NCAA Banner.
I could see how you'd be confused. If you Google IU NCAA banners, you'll come to find there are 5 of them hanging in Bloomington, IN in Assembly Hall.

Guess my earlier assessment was wrong...not overrated after all.

Nice win for Buckeyes.

5th straight B1G Tourney final and 7th in 8 years.

No genius, I didn't ask a question, I made a statement. Wisconsin doesn't need to trade the streak for an NCAA banner because THEY (WI) already have one. Don't burn my fries.

Bo Ryan owns Tom Crean.Crean has the talent (he can recruit).Assembly Hall is the best home court advantage in college basketball.Ryan walks in the door, keeps the game in the 60s, and shuts down the nation's most explosive offense. This goes back to Marquette/Wisconsin. Ryan has out-coached Crean for years.
Different day, same situation.

Holy crap, Purdue.

That might have been the worst college basketball game of the season.
Yeah, winning 8 conference games, including at Wisconsin. That's way worse than where iu was 2-3 years ago
I hope you realize I am just messing with you.Honest question, and I don't mean this as disrespect to Painter at all. Do you think long-term Painter is still safe at Purdue? I think he is great coach and I would assume he has a pretty long leash in terms of job security, but I was just curious what the local perspective was on him?

He's fine. Would take 2 more seasons like this to make them seriously consider changing. Considering this years freshman plus the four additions next year I expect them to be a bubble team next year and really good after that.

Yes, ONE. Now their fans find glory in a winning streak. I'd like a high gloss on those shoes, thanks.

I was just messing with ya too, being an IU homer, I hate Purdue as much I'm sure you hate IU. Painter is a great coach, Purdue will be fine, tho they'll always be lil bro to the Hoosiers. Joking aside, I'd take Painter over Crean, other than recruiting, but Crean has a big advantage selling IU over Purdue.

But Izzo didn't have to search long and hard to find a bright spot after this loss."I am really looking forward to playing somebody else," he said. "I think the other Big Ten teams are. We've really beaten the hell out of each other. I really believe the toughest teams, the ones who have been through the most, is going to benefit. I'm looking forward to playing anybody. I'd rather play the Lakers tomorrow instead of these teams we've played recently."

It's really very simple. Burke needs to learn how to pass the ####### ball. He drives to the hoop and takes terrible shots, rather than driving & dishing to an open guy. They have brutal rotation, because Burke (despite his sick talent) is bogging down the offense and failing to get others involved. Honestly, the more they have let Burke freelance the worse they have been this year. Michigan is a very poorly coached team - par for the course.

The "Trey Do Something" offensive sets have killed them.

Hammons could be very good, but I can't tell if they can keep him under control. He seems to lose his focus pretty easily.
