Big Ten Basketball 2022/2023 - Return to Power (2 Viewers)

I think these projected seedlings are high. The tournament committee will try to appear fair and balanced (thanks Barrack). I see it like this:

IU-1

OSU-2

MSU-3

MI-4

Wisc-5 and a 4 with a win today.

1- IU, Louisville, Gonzaga, Duke

Holy crap, Purdue.

That might have been the worst college basketball game of the season.
Yeah, winning 8 conference games, including at Wisconsin. That's way worse than where iu was 2-3 years ago
I hope you realize I am just messing with you.Honest question, and I don't mean this as disrespect to Painter at all. Do you think long-term Painter is still safe at Purdue? I think he is great coach and I would assume he has a pretty long leash in terms of job security, but I was just curious what the local perspective was on him?
He's fine. Would take 2 more seasons like this to make them seriously consider changing. Considering this years freshman plus the four additions next year I expect them to be a bubble team next year and really good after that.
Hammons could be very good, but I can't tell if they can keep him under control. He seems to lose his focus pretty easily.
He was horribly under-utilized in high school so I think he is just not used to expecting the ball so frequently.

This seems closer than the other predictions for the B1G teams on this page. Wisky might have already earned that 4 though. No way Duke gets a 1. IU, LVille, Zags, Kansas. If Miami wins they might bump Kansas but no way Duke gets a 1.

Michigan down to at best a 3rd seed.
No way they are still ranked 6th, even though they are now 9-7 over their last 16.
I was pretty confident in having them in the Final 4 because I think Burke is that good, and the rest of the top teams are just as mediocre, but now I dont know. Big 10 I think is so much better this year than the rest of the country that 4 teams in the Elite 8 wouldnt surprise me (if IU, UM, MSU, and OSU could all get there without knocking another off).I missed the game today, but any reason why Morgan only played 8 minutes? Only had 2 fouls so that cant be why.
Bad coaching. Wisconsin was killing UM inside in the second half. GRob was stuck in the paint against bigger men over and over, resulting in easy baskets. Why didn't they ever use Morgan and Horford or McGary and Morgan at the same time? GRob is not a 4.It wasn't like GRob was being used on offense for much if anything. Put two big guys out there.

Buckeyes have defensively improved alot since I said they'd be lucky to reach the S16. They'll be vulnerable against a hot shooting team still, but I'm liking their chances for a deeper run with their play of late.

If we just look at games played between Indiana, Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Michigan, here are their records:

OSU 6-4

IND 5-3

Wisc 5-4

MSU 4-5

Mich 2-6

The two wins by Michigan were a double over time win against OSU, and a 1 point win over MSU. I don't think Michigan is as good as they are ranked.

If you take Michigan out of the list, here are their records:

OSU 5-3

IND 3-3

Wisc 3-4

MSU 3-4

Now that is some cherry picking! :)

Man my Wolverines just fell flat yesterday. Start off fairly well, but just turned into turnover machines. We went from a chance to be a #1 seed to probably a #3 or #4 seed and falling. If we want to even have a prayer of making the Sweet 16 we better start putting some complete games together.
So disappointed in this UM team. They have had an antiMSU season. State always starts slow and finishes strong. Michigan just fell flat down the stretch. They have no mojo, guys are just not gelling, Burke pick and roll has become the entire offense at the expense of Hardaway, GR3, and Stauskas. The emotion and confidence is gone. I am very concerned about this tournament. Only hope is Michigan draws some teams that like to play up tempo and aren't as stout on defense as the Big 10 competition has been, they get their groove back and can carry that over into the Sweet 16 and beyond.
It's really very simple. Burke needs to learn how to pass the ####### ball. He drives to the hoop and takes terrible shots, rather than driving & dishing to an open guy. They have brutal rotation, because Burke (despite his sick talent) is bogging down the offense and failing to get others involved. Honestly, the more they have let Burke freelance the worse they have been this year. Michigan is a very poorly coached team - par for the course.
The "Trey Do Something" offensive sets have killed them.
This is the truth. They have too many weapons to be so heavily dependent upon one player.

7 teams, that is impressive.

[*]1 Indiana

[*]2 Ohio State

[*]3 MSU

[*]4 Michigan

[*]5 Wisconsin

[*]7 Illinois

[*]11 Minnesota

OSU has the easiest path to the final four of any team in the tournament.
Wisconsin will knock off Ole Miss, Kansas State, and Gonzaga and play OSU for the Final Four.
Could be. Gonzaga is still a wild card. They could be that good.
ole miss is a rough draw for the badgers. should be a good game...####em bucky!
I think Wisconsin will send them packing; no question.

Agreed. This means they will probably bail out early. Nothing against them I just think this year we need to expect the unexpected.
I don't know. New Mexico is no pushover. Will be a tough, tough game for Buckeyes if it comes to it.
I agree that New Mexico or most of the mid-majors aren't push overs. They play very solid games and they rarely beat themselves. And more times than not, the hardest bracket becomes easier and the easier brackets actually end up chalk.

Well, I had the B1G top 5 pegged. Now lets see how close I can get to predicting how many make the elite 8 and Final Four:IU, MSU, OSU, and Wiscy all make the elite 8IU and OSU make the final 4Good luck to all teams.

:goodposting: Except for MSU, Ohio, IU and Wisconsin. I hope those teams get embarrassed in the first round.

Nah, I cheer for the B1G until they're playing IU. Conference represent!
You will never catch me "cheering" for B1G schools other than U of M. I'd be just fine with sparty and ohio losing in the 1st round. Cheering against a team is stupid and petty, and I see it from my sparty in-laws all the time, but I'm certainly never going to be caught cheering for them....ever!

I like to ignore those games and instead check out the teams games that U.M. may face the next round.

Well, no, I'm not going to sit down and cheer for them openly. But, if they win then I feel it reflects well on the conference. This can translate to future positives like recruiting and polls IMO.
